The Scaries

It was a strange sensation. Apprehension, excitement. Fear. The young woman found herself swallowing too much and grinning foolishly at her friends. She was scared for being scared, and she had not even put the helmet on yet. For a brief moment she thought this was how they tricked money out of people, but then the gantry of headpieces lowered themselves down to cover the circle of faces. The darkness did not last long. Soon sounds and sights that she never thought possible were bombarding her. They somehow reached onto her skull and scraped primal fear from the bottom of her mind. This was not like a normal Prog. They were nothing more than distractions for the eyes. The sound of a baby crying faded, and light gently caressed her eyes open. She looked around the circle, and saw the tear streaked faces of her friends looking back. The abject terror was a fading memory. She smiled grimly. Yes, it had been worth it.
