BRIGHTLANDS SCHOOL

The School and its aims

Brightland had a modest beginning in 1958, as a school for the very young. Now a full fledged school - it is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. Brightlands is a co-educational English medium school and strives towards the development of a well rounded personality of all its students right from Nursery to Class XII. In its quest to provide a complete education, Brightlands caters to the physical, mental and emotional development of its young members. In order to bring out the hidden potential of each individual, qualities of discipline, open-mindedness and sensitivity are fostered and encouraged. We endeavour to see that our students acquire a broad range of skills, a love for learning, tolerance and respect for the beliefs of others and basic values of honesty, perseverance and punctuality. We expect a lot from our children and in turn the school gives of itself unsparingly. It is our aspiration to make it a fulfilling experience for a child who becomes a member of the Brightlands family, one who is confident of taking change as an opportunity rather than a threat. Indeed a proud moment, both for the child and the school, when he leaves us to be his own person and to lead a life which is purposeful, positive and constructive.

Academic year and examinations

The Academic year comprises two terms. The first term commences in the first week of April and ends in the fourth week of September. The second term begins in the second week of October and ends in the third week of March. Examinations are held at the end of each term. Detailed report cards are sent out to parents after each examination to keep them informed of their child’s performance in different spheres of school life. To ensure that the child is motivated to imbibe instructions on a regular and continuous basis, the two main examinations are interspersed with monthly tests.

International award for young people

To encourage and guide the students in the development of good citizenship and leadership qualities, the IAYP is an optional program offered to the students of classes VIII o XII. A member of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award International Association, the IAYP presents its participants with an individual challenge. Through a balanced, non-competitive programme of voluntary activities, the students are encouraged to develop personal qualities of self-reliance, perseverance and responsibility towards themselves and the society. The scheme has four mandatory sections : Service, Expeditions, Skills and Physical Recreation. There are three levels of awards : Bronze, Silver and Gold. The duration of each level is 6 months, 12 months and 18 months respectively.

Parent teachers meetings

The school considers Parent-Teacher meetings of vital importance. This enables parents and teachers to have a better understanding of the child’s total environment and development and also enhances the child’s security due to parent participation. Parent Teacher meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month, when parents can discuss with the concerned staff the basic progress and problems of their child.
