Shipping the Bettas

The fish's water is changed 24 hours before shipment. They are not feed the day before shipping, minimizing waste during transport. I add Kordon's NovAqua & AmQuel, to help protect the fish.
The bettas will have just enough water to cover their bodies however they are turned, the rest of the bag is air. Rubber band tightly, inverted into another bag and the 2nd bag is rubber band tightly.
I use a styrofoam shipper and prefer to wait until temperatures are between 60-70 degrees before shipping. The use of chemical heat pads during cold spells is not recommended. Extra space in the shipper is filled with shipping peanuts or newspaper. Everything is taped thoroughly and the shipper is marked LIVE FISH with arrows indicating UP on the sides.
I ship by 3 Day Priority Mail. This has been the cheapest way, and have run into no problems with this method. Most packages arrive within 2 days. I mail in the morning on Monday or Tuesday, insuring the fish will not be sitting at the post office over the weekend.
After receiving the shipment, I recommend the fish be carefully acclimated to their new water.
