~ GENERATION ONE ~

JAMES & SUSANNAH (???) MINYARD

I have this line confirmed back to JAMES MINYARD who was born between
1780 ~ 1790. He is last found in the 1830 census of Franklin County,
Georgia where his age was stated as between 40 ~ 50 years. JAMES was
married to SUSANNAH ??? who was also born about this time. She is reported
to have been born in North Carolina. Early records from this county are
hard to find, but, JAMES apparantly did own some land here as SUSANNAH sold
to her sons, JAMES and THOMAS MINYARD, 100 acres of land on the North Fork
of the Broad River in Franklin County, "for and in consideration of $5.00
and the natural love and affection for which she has and bears to her sons."
The deed was dated February 10, 1851.
In reviewing census records, it appears JAMES died shortly after the
1830 census was taken, before 1835. SUSANNAH MINYARD was listed as head
of the household by 1840. She remarried on February 16, 1851 to COLBERT
GUEST of Franklin County, six days after she sold the land to her sons.
SUSANNAH died sometime after 1870.
The lack of complete records from this county leaves a gap where one can
only guess at some relationships. I believe we can account for all of the
sons of this couple and all but one daughter. Until and unless evidence to
the contrary arises, I am working under the assumption that the following
were the children of JAMES and SUSANNAH (???) MINYARD:
  1. Richard Minyard who married Rebecca Chandler
  2. Fleming Minyard who married Mary Guest
  3. William J. Minyard who married Sarah Smith
  4. James Minyard who married Mary Smith
  5. Thomas Minyard who married Penelope Smith
  6. Jeptha Minyard who married Elizabeth Scoggins
  7. Emaline Minyard who married Joseph Bell
  8. Jane M. Minyard who married James L. Brown
  9. Rhoda Minyard who appears to have not married
  10. female Minyard who is still unaccounted for

~ GENERATION TWO ~

FLEMING & MARY (GUEST) MINYARD

FLEMING MINYARD was born about 1815 in Georgia. He married MARY GUEST
on January 14, 1835 in Franklin County, Georgia. MARY was apparantly born
about 1815 as well. Not much is known of this couple. To date, no land
deeds have been located, but, FLEMING did enter into a mortgage agreement
on December 31, 1841 where he signed a promissory note to THOMAS KING of
Franklin County. He promised to pay "twenty two dollars & fifty six and a
quarter cents", "on or before January 1, 1842." The deed continues, "Now
and in consideration of the sum of one dollar by the said THOMAS KING to the
said FLEMING MINYARD, in hand paid the receipt, whereof is hereby
acknowledged as well as for the better securing the payment of the aforesaid
promissory note, the said FLEMING MINYARD hath granted, bargained and sold
and do by these presents grant, bargain and sell unto the said THOMAS KING,
his heirs & assigns: one white speckled cow, now with calf, about five years
old and two small work steers, one red and the other white with red sides,
about two years old." The deed was recorded in the Franklin County, Georgia
courthouse on March 16, 1842.
FLEMING MINYARD appears to have died between 1860 ~ 1870. MARY (GUEST)
MINYARD died sometime after 1880. It is believed they may be buried in
unmarked graves at New Hope Baptist Church cemetery in Franklin County.

and LUCINDA EVELYN (MOORE) AYERS. LUCINDA "Lou Cindy" MINYARD was known

REVEREND HENRY DAVID & LEOLIAN PEARL (FARROW) MINYARD

HENRY DAVID MINYARD was born March 8, 1877 in Carnesville, Franklin
County, Georgia. He was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church at the age of
15. He was ordained into the ministry at Liberty Baptist Church in Franklin
County on November 17, 1907. He married LEOLIAN PEARL FARROW on December
23, 1900 in Franklin County, Georgia. She was born November 5, 1885, the
only daughter of JOHN NEWTON and MARTHA ANN LAMANDA (BAGWELL) FARROW of
Franklin County. REVEREND MINYARD did not like to preach in churches that
were already established. He prefered to go where he felt he was really
needed, so, his travels kept him away from home a good bit when his children
were younger. Unfortunately, preachers were not paid well or not paid in
cash at all, making it difficult for LEOLIAN to raise her family.
REVEREND MINYARD was initated into the Carnesville, Georgia Masonic
Lodge #186 on February 4, 1908 where his membership remained until September
1, 1931. He was reinstated in September 1936 to the Frank C. Folks Lodge
No. 192 in Waycross, Georgia. He was an active mason and served faithfully
as chaplain of the Frank C. Folks Lodge for many years prior to his death.
REVEREND MINYARD preached at many churches throughout his life and had
preached the Christmas sermon the Sunday prior to his death. Cataracts had
caused him to go almost completely blind prior to his death. He suffered
a cerebral hemorrhage on December 28, 1948 which took his life. He was
preceded in death by his wife. LEOLIAN PEARL(FARROW) MINYARD died August
11, 1943 from diabetes. REVEREND MINYARD did remarry later in life to a
woman named MINNIE ROUSE. "Miss Minnie" was a good companion to him in his
later years. She would drive him to church and read the bible to him.
REVEREND HENRY DAVID & LEOLIAN PEARL (FARROW) MINYARD are buried in
marked graves at Oakland Cemetery, Waycross, Ware County, Georgia. They
