Scottish Football Association



The S,F.A. was founded in 1873 and is the second oldest association in world football, The first International match took place in Glasgow one year earlier on 30th November 1872 - St. Andrew's Day. The opponents were England, " the auld enemy", the Football Association having been founded m 1863.

The Scottish Football Association and the Football Association, together with the Football Federation of Wales founded in 1876, and the Irish Football Association f in 1880, set up the International Football Association Board in 1886 to control the Laws of the Game. F.I.F.A., founded in 1904, became a member of the Board in 1913 and today the I.F.A.B. still acts as the guardian of the Laws of the Game.

The S.F. A. Headquarters are in the West End of Glasgow in a row of Victorian buildings whose history also dates back to the 19th Centry. It overlooks Kelvingove Park and is very close to Glasgow University and the Art Galleries.

The members of the S.F.A. include senior clubs in Scotland. Affiliated national associations such as the Scottish Amateur F.A., the Scottish Junior F.A., Scottish Welfare F.A. and the Scottish Schools F.A. as well as local associations such as the North of Scotland F. A., the East of Scotland F.A. and the Southern Counties F. A.

The Scottish Football Association joined F.I.F.A. in 1910 and was a founder member of UEFA in 1954.

As an association we have a long and proud history.
