In this brief sermon from the Bible, I want to discuss how to overcome the fear of rejection. My prayer is that this teaching will encourage you by building your faith and bring you to a new spiritual level in the Lord. We live in a world where we can teach teenagers how to build bombs, kill and destroy lives, and yet we still can not teach them to not feel rejected, just because they may be different. Passage One: "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandent greater than these." ( Mark 12:30-31 ) "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." ( John 15:12-13 ) How could a mother or father tell their son or daughter, that they never wanted a boy, but rather a girl, or vice versa? The child may mature harboring latent feelings of rejection, or attempt to take on characteristics of the type of child that their parents wanted. A way must be found to dispel these feelings of rejection; the solution is to ask God to replace these feelings in our heart with the unconditional love of God for us. There is no greater joy than in the realization that God loves us just the way we are, He just doesn't love the sin. As we have seen from the recent killings and suicides of our young people, although several efforts have been made to reach the younger generation, many of these attempts have fallen short. We have preached to them, told them of the love of God, and about His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, but they feel they are doing just fine without this Jesus, and Christianity is being pushed on them. However, some concepts transcend the boundaries of religion. We must always have the fundamental repect of, and value for, human life. This is not about Christianity, but about life, and the need to teach our young children to be, at the very least, law-abiding citizens, with respect for the lives of others, as well as themselves. Let's start back teaching good moral standards, because all of this constitutes "loving one's neighbors as thyself", and this is the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Passage Two: "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not." ( Isa. 53:3 ) The demon of rejection uses weapons called words to wound, and cause deep emotional hurt. We must depend on God to break free from these words that have been used against as weapons of warfare.
