Han Tao's Constitution Loyola Marymount University Article I: Name and Objectives Section 1 The name of the organization is Loyola Marymount Han Tao (the Chinese Way). Section 2 The main objectives of this organization will be: a. To help and invite Chinese students to get to know everyone on campus; b. To interchange cultures among all students in other organizations; c. To stimulate Chinese Culture on campus and increase school spirit; d. To create intercollegiate relationships and understanding with existing Chinese Student Organizations in neighboring colleges and universities. Article II: Membership Section 1 All students of the Loyola Marymount Community who have an interest in promoting the activities within this organization shall be admitted as active members. Section 2 Students in neighboring Colleges and Universities who have an interest in joining the organization may be accepted as associate members. Section 3 The organization is open to everyone, regardless of color, race, creed or national origin. Article III: Officers/Electoral Board Section 1 The officers of this organization shall be the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Director, Cultural Director, Community Service Directory, Internal Representative, External Representative, and Historian. Section 2 The duties of the officers will be described in the by-laws. Section 3 Officers elected at the organization's annual election in March will take office in the beginning of the following academic year. Section 4 Officers will be elected in the manner described in the by-laws. Section 5 There may be two persons holding the following office: social/cultural director, historian, internal, publicity, and external representatives. Article IV: Electoral Board of Directors Section 1 Electoral Board of Directors shall consist of the following: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Director, Cultural Director, Community Service Director, Historian, Publicity, External Representative, Internal Representative, and Han Tao Advisor. Section 2 President of the organization is the Chairman of the Electoral Board of Directors. Article V: Han Tao Advisor Section 1 He or she must be full time professor of Loyola Marymount University and must be approved by the electoral board of Directors. Section 2 He or she shall represent the interest of the organization upon their approval. Article VI: Vacancies Section 1 A vacancy in an office shall be filled by an active member, and if it is still vacant to the next academic year, it will be open to a new member. Article VII: Provisions and Amendments Section 1 Provisions and Amendments within the organization, constitution and other involvement of the organization will be open to everyone in the organization. Section 2 Changes will be made if more than two thirds of the active members favor the change. By-Laws Article I: Qualifications of Officers Section 1 The person elected President must be an Active Member of the Han Tao and must be a student attending Loyola Marymount University for the following academic year while he or she holds office. He or she must have experience serving on the Electoral Board. Any person who is a freshman at the time of the election is not eligible for the President Office. Section 2 An Active Paid Member can be an officer for the other offices by one condition, the active member must be attending Loyola Marymount University the following academic year. Article II: Roles of the Electoral Board Officers Section 1 President: The President shall preside at all meetings and shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the organization. The President shall hold general supervision over the development of the entire organization. He or she shall make all committee appointments and shall appoint any and all delegates to represent the organization, subject to the approval of the Electoral Board of Directors. Section 2 Vice President: The Vice President shall assist the president with their duties. Vice President shall preside as President if the President is not there. also, the Vice President will attend meetings that involve other clubs, such as Asian Pacific Islander Roundtable, ASLMU Student Assembly and others. Section 3 Secretary: The Secretary shall keep minutes of the meetings and maintain a file of correspondences and reports as well as maintain an up to date record of any business of the organization Section 4 Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be the custodian of all the organization funds and shall keep a record of the receipts and expenditures of the organization. The treasurer shall co-sign with the President for all disbursement of the organization funds. The Treasurer is in charge of fundraisers. Section 5 Cultural Director: The Cultural Director shall promote and organize all cultural activities of the organization and assist the External Representative in intercollegiate activities. Section 6 Social Director: The Social Director shall promote and organize all social activities of the organization and assist the Internal Representative in activities with other on-campus organizations. Section 7 External Representative: The External Representative is the organization's representative to the other colleges. He or she will plan and organize activities with neighboring colleges and universities. Section 8 Internal Representative: The Internal Representative is the organization's representative to Loyola Marymount University. He or she will organize activities with other clubs and organizations on-campus. Other duties include reserving venues for activities on campus. Section 9 Historian: The Historian's role is to take pictures at club activities and to keep records of all activities. Section 10 Community Service Coordinator (CSC): The CSC will be in charge of coordinating service projects that Han Tao can participate in. Article III: Meetings Section 1 The regular general meetings will be held twice a month, every other week. Section 2 The annual election meeting of the organization shall be held during the end of March of each year. Section 3 Electoral Board Meetings will be held twice a month, every other week that is not during the week of general meetings. Section 4 Special meetings shall be called by the President or other Electoral Board Officers if necessary with the President's approval. Article IV: Elections Section 1 All nominations of officers of this organization will be received from the floor. Nominations by self or someone will be approved with a second from another member. Section 2 The majority of the votes cast shall be necessary for a successful election to a position. If any ballot does not have a majority, there will be another vote less the one with the fewest vote. Article V: Membership Section 1 Active members are members that belong to the Loyola Marymount University. These members should have their dues paid. Section 2 Associate members are members that belong to neighboring colleges and universities that want to participate in Han Tao's activities. Associate members can not vote or run for office. Article VI: Dues Section 1 Dues shall be $10.00 for both semesters and $7.50 for one semester. Section 2 Dues shall not prevent anyone from participating in Han Tao's activities during the year.
