Master P Injures Ankle And Loses Clients The hoop dreams of rap mogul Master P have been put on hold yet again. The New Orleans native injured his ankle while playing basketball for the International Basketball League's San Diego Stingrays and will be on injured reserve for a few weeks, according to his publicist. Master P went to the doctor today (Jan. 20) to treat his injury. This is only the latest set back of Master P's professional basketball career. He was cut by the Toronto Raptors before the 1999-2000 NBA season after practicing with the team throughout training camp and the preseason. In related news, Portland Blazers Guard Bonzi Wells is the latest professional athlete to drop Master P's No Limit Sports firm as representation. Master P was widely criticized last year when client Ricky Williams signed an incentive-laden contract with the NFL's New Orleans Saints. The next album scheduled for release on Master P's No Limit Records will be Da 504 Boyz's Goodfellas, which is scheduled for a March 21 release.
Master P Not Playin Basketball? Stingrays at Richmond Rhythm Site/time: Richmond, Va., 4:30 p.m. Records: Stingrays 3-15, Richmond 6-14 Radio: KSDO-AM (1130), delayed at 10:15 Outlook: Percy Miller, a.k.a. Master P, is still on the 12-man active roster, but probably not for long. GM Jim Sims said "we're still talking with a couple of teams about a trade" and expects something to be finalized today or tomorrow. Miller is not on the current road trip and hasn't played since Jeff Malone took over as head coach last week. Malone has his own issues, losing his first three games by a combined 75 points. He made another roster move, adding point guard Tharon Mayes and waiving Pete Philo. The Rhythm is coached by 7-foot-4 Ralph Sampson and features former NBA forward A.J. English, who averages a league-leading 24.9 points. The Rhythm is in last place in the IBL's East Conference, and the only team with a worse record is the Stingrays.
Rapper Master P dropped as Mercer's representative Denver Nuggets swingman Ron Mercer, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, said he has left No Limit Sports, the sports agency founded by Percy Miller, better known as rapper Master P. Mercer, who will now be represented by Andy Miller, and Charlotte Hornets swingman Ricky Davis have filed the required documentation with the NBA and the National Basketball Players Association, the union that represents NBA players, to make the change. Mercer, who was in Los Angeles for the Nuggets' game against the Lakers on Monday, was reluctant to discuss the matter in detail. "It is true," Mercer said, "but I'm really not comfortable saying anything else about it. I don't want to bring a whole lot of attention to it just yet." No Limit also represents the Clippers' Derek Anderson, Portland's Bonzi Wells, Washington's Laron Profit and Atlanta's Jason Terry, all of whom may drop Miller and his agency. Sources close to the situation indicated two reasons for the dissatisfaction with No Limit: the disastrous, incentive-laden contract No Limit negotiated for New Orleans Saints running back Ricky Williams, and Miller's ongoing efforts to carve out an NBA career of his own. "There's not really too much to talk about," Davis told the Gaston, N.C., Gazette. "It fell apart when he (Miller) started playing basketball and stopped concentrating on the business." Miller played for the Continental Basketball Association's Fort Wayne Fury in 1998-99 and signed training camp contracts with the Charlotte Hornets last January and with the Toronto Raptors last October. Miller currently is playing for the San Diego Stingrays of the International Basketball League. The contract for Williams, the No. 5 pick in the NFL draft, counting bonuses and incentives, could have paid him just over $ 9 million this year. However, since Williams reached only one of the incentives in his contract - he played 35 percent of his team's offensive snaps - his salary was $ 225,000 (he did receive $ 3 million of his $ 8.84 million signing bonus this year). Indianapolis running back Edgerrin James, the No. 4 pick in the draft, ended up playing for $ 14.75 million this season. "That was definitely in the back of my mind," Davis said. "I know that NBA and NFL contracts are different, but I don't want nobody fooling with my contract like that one was."
Juvenile Concert Halted After Fans Storm Venue Violence erupted at a Cash Money concert on Friday night in Oakland, California, after Cash Money Hoes found out how fake they were, prompting the event, which was to feature performances from Juvenile and his partners in The Hot Boys as well as Ruff Ryders rapper Eve and R&B artist Ginuwine, to be cut short. "The Oakland Tribune" reports that the show got underway as scheduled, but that trouble began around 9 p.m. when a crowd stormed the doors and rushed past the metal detectors that had been positioned at the arena entrances.Inside they found Juvenile sipping tea and reading "Men are from Venus Women are from Mars" sitting next to the famed rapper DMX who was continuing his research on rat DNA. "I can't believe Juvi's so fake," said one of the former fans. "I thought these guys were supposed to be real gangsters, here they are doing this?" Fights then broke out between the gate-crashers and some of the 12,000 audience-goers who were already inside the Oakland Arena, prompting the 100 police officers at the concert to call in 150 additional officers to help them clear the venue. Early reports had suggested that guns had been fired both inside and outside the Oakland Arena during the riot. Authorities dismissed such notions on Saturday, saying there was no evidence to suggest that gunfire either prompted or played any role in the disturbance. The Oakland police and Alameda County sheriff's deputies did not arrest any suspects for their role in Friday night's melee, as the authorities were more concerned with safely evacuating people from the Arena. Approximately 25 people were treated at the scene for minor injuries, and only two others were transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Both were later released. The concert, which was two-thirds completed when the trouble began, marked the first time in ten years that a rap event had been held at the Oakland Arena. A spokesperson for the venue said it had no plans to issue refunds.
Tour Delayed If you can't wait until the Ruff Ryder/Cash Money tour gets rolling, then you're a hoe who's gonna have to wait a little longer. The "Source" magazine-sponsored tour (featuring Ruff Ryders DMX, Eve, Swizz Beatz, Drag-On, and The Lox, alongside Cash Money rappers Juvenile, Hot Boys, Lil' Wayne, Turk, B.G., and The Big Tymers) was to get rolling on February 9 in Providence, Rhode Island and hit close to 50 cities by mid-April. However, Interscope Records (distributors of the Ruff Ryders imprint) now tells the nWo Tank Radio Network that the tour's start date has been pushed back to February 24 in Rochester, New York and the tour is now expected to wrap up in Seattle on April 10. Scheduling issues are believed to be the cause for the move, though the label didn't offer a reason for the delay. The tour's revamped itinerary has yet to be firmed up. When things do get rolling, the tour will mark DMX's first extended time on the road since his "...And Then There Was X" debuted at number one on the "Billboard" album chart late last year.
Snoop Reflects On Dr. King's Effect On His Life And Music (Stuff you won't hear on Snoop Poop's House, who biters now huh?!!!) Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a profound influence on rapper Snoop Dogg, who explains how the late civil-rights leader's actions helped change his perspective on his life and his music. "Martin Luther King's birthday is a symbolization, to me, of the turnaround and the change of my positivity and my rap within," Snoop tells Baby G.A.R. Figuer. "It helps me to believe that I'm living his dream and, you know what I'm saying... I finally woke up and realized what his dream was about. And to be a part of his dream is putting positive songs on my album, being more of a role model, and trying to make a change, and being more positive towards the kids -- to what parents would want their kids to listen to my music. And that's the influence that Mr. King has on me as we speak."

Juvenile Dominates the Charts with Two Albums Tha G-Code and 400 Degreez Only one year since the release of his phenomenal 400 Degreez, Cash Money/Universal Records artist Juvenile re-enters the Billboard charts with his explosive new album, Tha G-Code, which has already sold over 600,000 copies to date. Since its release one month ago, Tha G-Code has achieved extraordinary success on the charts. It's #19 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart, #5 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart and #6 on the Rap Chart. Driven by the wildly popular hit, "Back That Thang Up," 400 Degreez is still a chart-topper one year after its initial release. Remarkably, Juvenile has two albums in the top 25 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums Chart, in the top 15 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums Chart and in the top 10 on the Rap Chart. Additionally, "Back That Thang Up" has been the #1 most played rap record at radio stations across the country for over four months, and has been on rotation at MTV for over six months. Further success is anticipated as airplay continues to develop at pop radio stations. The award-winning rapper continues to receive numerous accolades and recognition for his ground-breaking 400 Degreez. To date he has received a 1999 Source Award for "Best Single of the Year" for "Ha," a 1999 Billboard Award for "R&B Album of the Year," and he was nominated for a 1999 American Music Award for "Favorite Rap/Hip Hop Artist of the Year." Juvenile and the Cash Money Millionaires, consisting of the Hot Boys (Juvenile, B.G., Lil Wayne, Turk) and Big Tymers (Bryan "Baby" Williams and Mannie Fresh) are scheduled to perform on Soul Train and Motown Live. Details to follow. The entire Cash Money roster and The Ruff Ryders are scheduled to kick off their national tour in February. Upcoming dates include: Rochester, NY (2/24), Nassau, LI (2/25), Detroit, MI (2/26), Chicago, IL (2/27), Buffalo, NY (3/2).

" Juvenile Breaks Down Bounce " Rapper Juvenile was among the first artists to record the "bounce" style of hip-hop that was created in his hometown of New Orleans. "Bounce," most easily recognized by its double-time drum patterns, has been used on million-selling albums from such artists as Juvenile, Master P and Silkk The Shocker. Juvenile told Baby G.A.R. Figuer about the music's early days and the relationship his producer Mannie Fresh has with it. "Bounce music been the thing going on in New Orleans [since], like, '89," he explains. "And Mannie Fresh been doing the music since back then, and I've been rapping it since back then. I'm the inventor of it. So it was normal for me, but it seems complicated to everybody else that don't know what went on in New Orleans back in '89, '90. But it's something I grew up with." Juvenile, who has two of the Top 25 albums in the country, also appears on Jay-Z's Vol. 3...Life And Times Of S. Carter, which is currently the No. 1 album in the country.
Snoop "Greatest Hits" Snoop Dogg is getting ready to drop a collection of his greatest hits, fresh off the huge success of Dr. Dre's album Dr. Dre 2001. Snoop's Greatest Hits is scheduled to hit stores this February 22 on Death Row/Priority. In related news, Snoop is also gearing up to release Snoop Dogg Presents Tha Eastsidaz on January 18. Even though Master P is less than a quarter of the way through his first season in the International Basketball League, the rap mogul-athlete is already busy lining up feature film and small screen projects. Master P, better known to his San Diego Stingray teammates as Percy Miller, has also been cast in a new film, "Gone In Sixty Seconds," which stars Nicolas Cage, Robert Duvall, and Angelina Jolie. The film, directed by Dominic Sena ("Kalifornia"), is tentatively due out in June. As for his on-the-court pursuits, Miller has played in 10 of the Stingrays' 12 games, heading into a home contest on January 6 against the New Mexico Slam. So far, Master P is shooting 25 for 83 from the field, 17 for 24 from the free throw line, and a dismal 6 for 39 from behind the 3-point arc. The Stingrays currently own a 3-9 overall record for last place in the IBL's Western Conference; Miller is averaging 7.7 points per game with 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 3.3 fouls, 2.8 turnovers, and 1.1 steals. *Master P is just doing his thing when it comes to the big and small screen, reports Davey D.com. One project will see him get down with Lavar Burton, who will direct, for a film titled "Camp P'' which will also star Sticky Fingaz of the group Onyx. It will feature an array of new actors and actresses from mixed backgrounds. Look for that to drop within the first half of 2000. *Another project that P is getting his hands on is a TV show titled "Bounty Huntaz," which will be directed by Brett Ratner. It's the tale of law enforcement officials that go undercover to track down suspects hiding in the Hip-Hop world. The series may bow around March on UPN.

"THA BLOCK IS HOT" No national promotions. No glitzy album release. Just ghetto music for the masses. The Cash Money Millionaires have locked down the streets of the South for over three years. And last summer, the Cash Money clique took their raw brand of hood theatrics cross-country with an exclusive distribution deal with Universal Records. The deal that threw down a whopping $30 million on the table, had many non-believing heads questioning if there was any room for another New Orleans army. Besides Cash Money's rival Master P's No Limit Soldiers were already representing the Big Easy. But for Cash Money, the battle was won before guns were even drawn.
