Zarbon was first recruited by Frieza, the acting C.E.O. of the Planet Trade Guild, in the 1960s(in Terran years) as squad leader. Zarbon's ruthlessness and cunning helped him to climb the ranks to the position of Administrative Assistant to Frieza. His duties included serving as a trade envoy to the Zargosians as well as managing the distribution of materials to and from Guild-conquered worlds. It was after reading a report about the "efficiency" of the Saiyan mercenary squads that Zarbon suggested to Frieza to keep a close eye on them. Zarbon's fears were soon put to rest when Frieza anounced that the Saiyan planet was to be given to Galactus as a "dividend".

30 years later, Zarbon accompanies Frieza and his forces to planet Namek Prime in order to gain possession of the legendary Dragonballs. After the death of Dodoria at the hands of Prince Vegeta, Frieza orders Zarbon to capture the Saiyan and bring him to the Guild mothership. Zarbon used his scouter to track Vegeta down. Surprised at how powerful Vegeta had become, Zarbon was forced to assume his true form. The Zargosian soon made quick work of the Saiyan prince.

Hours later, a recovered and more powerful, Vegeta escapes his confinement and cripples the Guild mothership's communications and weapon systems. Enraged at the failure of his security forces, Frieza disintegrates his entire security force. The Guild C.E.O. then orders Zarbon to retrieve Vegeta at all costs. Thinking Vegeta still weaker than him, Zarbon reassumes his true form and battles the Saiyan. Vegeta makes short work of Zarbon by first beating him to a pulp, and then blasting a hole through his chest. Zarbon's last thoughts were of how beautiful the power of a Saiyan was.
