ThanagarianThanagarians inhabit the planet Thanagar in the Polaris System, approximately 3 light years from Earth. Thanagarians are a warrior race evolved from birds of prey. Their culture is similar to feudal Europe in that "the might of the sword and right of the king's law rules all." Thanagarians can pass for "Earthers" if not for their wings.

Thanagarian technology is slightly ahead of Earth in that they have achieved warp drive technology. Unfortunately, their technology is focused more on security, law enforcement, and military applications.

Thanagar is a lost colony of the Shi'ar Empire. During one of the Empire's earliest civil wars, Thanagar's population was decimated and much of its surface was destroyed. This was key in forcing the Thanagarians to evolve differently from their Shi'ar cousins. Unlike the Shi'ar, Thanagarians have fully functional wings and hair like "Earthers."

Thanagar is under the leadership of a council of regents. They dictated a policy of isolationism which lasted 13 centuries.

The end of this isolationism came when delegates of the Shi'ar, Skrull, and Earth (Avengers and X-men) offered an exchange of technology and resources. The council of regents accepted the offers on the condition that neither the Shi'ar or Skrull attempt to annex Thanagar into their empires.

The secret of Thanagarian technology is their use of a metal known on Earth as Nth Metal in the fashioning of weapons and equipment.
