General Information:
| Designed by Director Devra Andora based on early designs by Colonel Mik Keron, the Emissary Class was originally slated to be a science ship. However the realities of the Wraith pushed the designs away from a scientific platform into a weapon designed to augment current Bajoran defenses and to be a design capable of engaging the Wraith in combat. With the advantages of gaining technology from the Wraith and the Goa'uld, the Emissary class Destroyer has improved, while being similiar in length to the Intrepid class of Starfleet, but is far more manuverable. The power requirements for the the engines and weapons for this class has posed a problem to long range sensor equipment, so to combat this the Mark II Sensor/Defense Drone was added. Carrying a compliment of five, only two are needed for actual deployment to provide long range sensor information to the Emissary. The drones are based off the defense grid Mark I drones designed by Colonel Mik Keron. The most inovative feature is the designation of "control keys", a bio-encoded set of keys worn around the neck while on duty and inserted upon shift changes to indicate the officer in charge. Each bridge station requires the correct control key to operate. Each officer approved for service aboard an Emissary class Destroyer is issued their control key. For the ship to reach full operation, the CO's (or duty shift CO's) key must be installed. The control key cannot be used if the subject has Wraith DNA in them, to prevent the Wraith or any unauthorized source to gain control over the ship. The control keys indicate passing of tests both psychological, and scientific, designed to keep the crews well trained in the operation of the ship, and to ensure that no one not psychologically unstable is put into a position of authority on an Emissary. |
Classified Information:
| Utilizing technology combined between Wraith and a race from another reality called the Goa'uld. Using reverse engineering techniques from schematics found in a retrieved Goa'uld "computer" system, and the parts found from their ship and weapons, the Emissary's systems were augmented from the original designs. The primary "computer system" of the Emissary involves a network of crystaline storage devices based off the Goa'uld design mixed in with the principle of bio-neural gelpacks. Thus far the computing capacity of the devices have not been fully explored. Utilizing a metal known as Naquada as the structural framework of the ship and using a Naquada-Duranium alloy for the hull. The positioning of the thrusters and impulse engines gives the Emissary her manuverablity. The main weapon is a very high intensity beam weapon that based upon current information on the Wraith should do severe damage to a Wraith capital ship. However as the weapon has a two minute recharge rate, the manuverability requirement has become clear. Initial tests reveal that thus far the main weapon has a great deal of explosive potential, however thus far, the ship class has not engaged the Wraith, leaving with no way to be certain if the weapon will have an effect on an actual Wraith ship. The other marvel is the ship's cloaking device, utilizing both Romulan, Klingon, and Goa'uld cloaking devices all combined together. Tested against conventional sensors, the device has proven to be quite invisable. Without adjustment, an Emissary can remain in a fixed position for over 45 minutes before the thruster packs leave a signal noticible to sensors. Under another test without the use of thrusters, the Emissary remained cloaked for twenty-seven hours without being detected. The test was concluded after that time. Though further testing will be undertaken. |
