SLAVES

A common enough background in the River; virtually every area, civilized or not, recognizes some form of slavery. To be an Ex-Slave, a character needs to have Unusual Background and the listed stat requirements, assuming one wants to have been legitimately freed. If you want to be a runaway slave, you can skip the Unusual Background, but you will have Outlawed from the area you are from, and will have to exercise some care in day to day life, as most areas post an automatic bounty for a returned slave that many are aware of.

The status of slave is generally conveyed by a collar, made of anything from tough leather to wooden chain links to any sort of metal. Those who have been slaves long enough to have any of the listed packages will have a distinct ring of callouses around their neck in the appropriate area, which bounty hunters, Tengish Knights, suspicious city guards, and snooty headwaiters tend to look for. A slave who has been freed legitimately is given a tattoo or a brand to signify it, in an anatomical area of their choice.
