The moon phase a garou is born under!
This influences your role in the pack.
Ragabash | Theurge | Philodox | Galliard | Ahroun

Ragabash
Children born under the new moon are destined to be tricksters,
For only sly creatures stalk unseen in the darkness of the new moon.
Ragabash are the masters of stealth and guile.
Their talent for theft and trickery is so great
That they often enjoy mocking the orderly ways of the gerou society.
But only a fool would disregard the wisdom hiding in the trickster.
They bring mirth to still the anger between two hearts
and humility to those who need a dose in full.
The New moon often has clever insights that make him a worthy advisor.

The Ragabash occupies an odd place in Gerou Society
The Ragabash enjoys a rare flexibility within the rigid structure.
When there is tension in the air, the Ragabash is usually the one to lift it
Even at the risk of claws across his exposed, laughing throat.
He shows a different kind of courage than the warrior,
But a type that clever Elders don't ever underestimate.

Since he is always questioning the way things work,
The Ragabash has the obligation to play devil's advocate.
The Ragabash must question traditions and decrees not reflexively,
But with an informed point of veiw.
It isn't enough to cast doubt on an elders proclamation,
The Ragabash must have a solid argument supporting his veiws.
It's the responsibility of the Ragabash to make sure
that both sides of every issue are seen.

The Ragabash born as the new moon waxes is usually light-hearted
While one born under the waning new moon has a more wicked and ruthless streak.

Theurge
As Luna’s most slender light shines on Gaia,
She reveals the secrets of the spirits and their vast realms.
The Theurge is the child of the crescent moon,
He is the wisest in the ways of the Umbra
And it’s inhabitants.

Some call these seers the daydreamers of the Gerou
And many do seem a bit detached from their brethren
But only an idiot would call a Theurge cryptic to his face.
They can see and hear things that others cannot.
As if they live half their life in the physical world
And half their life in the spirit world.
The closer a Theurge grows to his spirit allies
The less familiar he becomes to the physical world.

But for all his solitude,
The Theurge holds an important place in any pack.
Without him, Gerou might forget their spiritual nature.
The Theurge is usually the packs ritemaster
The person who knows the most rites and
Has the responsibility of performing them for the pack
He also typically negotiates with encountered spirits
As he is the one most likely to speak their language
And understand their unusual mode of thought.
It takes a certain mentality to think as spirits do.

Those theurges born under the waning moon
Are apparently more adept at binding spirits.
While a Theurge born under the waxing moon
Has a more charming, cajoling, manner
with the denizens of the Umbra.

Philodox
The half moon reflects the dualities of Gerou nature:
Wolf and Human
Flesh and Spirit
Fury and Wisdom
Darkness and Light

The Philodox is a counselor and lawkeeper of the pack.
Just as the Ragabash lives for laughter,
The Philodox is born with the wisdom and desire
To judge fairly the actions of her people
She can’t help but solve every dispute that falls in her path
It’s the role Luna has destined for her.

In times of peace, the ranking Philodox is often pack leader,
But in times of war, usually a Galliard or Ahroun is alpha.
A wise Philodox has no grudges, and knows that stepping down,
That in such situations is likely best.

Whether she gains a leadership position or not,
She is expected to be impartial where others are concerned.
For it’s a poor half moon who favors one packmate over another.
A Philodox has the responsibility to keep the Litany,
Or laws of the Gerou, in mind at all times.
If a packmate is straying close to violating the Litany,
A Philodox should be the first to notice and warn them against going further.
This responsibility extends even beyond the pack,
For a good Philodox is concerned with every Gerou she meets.

Buried so heavily in her role as impartial judge and jury,
Others may consider a Philodox above the day-to-day trials of life.
This is true about the half moon born under Luna's waxing gaze,
But the waning-moon Philodox may be edgy and
always concerned about her surroundings being perfect.
But when trouble strikes, everyone turns to the Philodox.

Galliard
The Galliard, The beloved child of the nigh-full moon,
Is joy incarnate in her songs, stories, and poetry.
The beauty of Luna's gibbous face inspirs her to great deeds
On the battlefield as well as around the moot fires.
She keeps the traditions of the Gerou alive,
Through lore passed down from generation to generation.
She can rouse the pack from self-pity when they are needed for battle
She can cause the stodgiest Philodox to weep, should the occasion call for it.

The entertainment of the Galliard's may take many forms.
She may be a dancer, a storyteller, a musician, or
A bit of everything all rolled into one.
When peace turns to war, a Galliard may be called to lead the pack.
And when tranquility comes around again,
She will sing laments for those who have fallen,
And epic sagas for the brave survivors.

The Galliards role is a tricky one,
She must be the lorekeeper of her pack,
Well versed in Gerou and the packs history, and
Able to teach others to learn from past mistakes.
She also recounts the her packmates deeds of
Bravery, Wisdom, and Honor at Moots,
Thus ensuring them proper honor for their efforts.

The Galliard is also the Gerous negotiator with mortals
Just as the Theurge Bargans with the spirits,
And the Philodox reasons with other Gerou.

A true Galliard has a fine memory, a glib tounge, and a brave spirit.
Her job isn't easy, and she needs all the talent she can muster.
Galliards are all the passions of the Gerou,
Rolled into one fiesty and creative package.
They are completely unrestrained in their various moods
And are damned hot-tempered to boot.
Galliards born under Luna’s waxing face have dark, consuming passions
They relate tales of doom, war, and sacrifice.
The waxing-moon Galliards are almost giddy by comparison
Full of songs, of wonder, conquest, and joy.
Withou the Galliards songs, many Gerou would have given up,
Even in sight of victory.

Ahroun
The warrior basks in the full glow of Luna
Her silver light illuminating his all-consuming rage.
He doesn't hesitate to strike a fatal blow,
Rather he often doesn't know when to stop killing.
All Gerou are fighters,
but Ahrouns are the most destructiveand vicious of all Gaia's children.
Even the young among this auspice are fearsome to see.
There are few old Ahrouns,
most likely because they do not fear death in the service of Gaia.
And those Elders who do live are among the greatist Gerou of Legends.

The full moon knows no cowardice, only his thirst for battle.
Like the Galliards, Ahrouns are inspiration for their people
But for their tactical acumen and physical prowess not pretty words.
When peace fails, he takes the reins of comand, as is his due.
He is the first to lead his pack into the fray
and the last to fall should they meet defeat.
The Ahroun's role in the packe is simple
He must be the consummate warrior,
Able to physically defend all his weaker packmates
and provide the right tactics for any circumstance.

The term "hell on wheels" Doesn't begin to cover the Ahroun
A full moon Gerou is on edge constantly, seething with rage,
Ready for a fight at every turn
The waxing moon Ahroun is almost fanatic about proving himself
While the Waning warrior seeks to assert his dominance over other.
They're all damn ornery and hard to get along with,
But any Gerou is glad to have one around in a fight,
assuming they're on the same side.
