Q: Where is everybody?

A: Beginning in 2003, we are trying to make Thursday Night the typical Game Night. If you go out past 9 or 10 PM on Thursday night, you should see people in-game hanging around the mall area.

Q: Okay it's not Thursday and I can't find anybody.

A: If you're having trouble finding people, try posting on the in-game board with when you're going out. If people know that other players are out in-game, they're more likely to come out in-game too. Most of our veteran players are more than happy to help new players into the game, so don't be shy!

Q: I'm totally confused and can't figure out your damn website.

A: If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail the Tales of the Dreaming staff at talesofthedreaming@yahoo.com or stop by and meet one of us. Keith and Dan live at J-5-1 in the Olde and can be reached at x7383, which spells PETE. Joshua Awesome lives somewhere in the Outback but you're not allowed to visit him because there's no fun allowed in the Outback. He can be called at x3043.

Q: I'm totally confused and can't figure out your damn website.

A: That's totally Josh's fault. Try using the Search thingy on the left, or just ask the TotD staff. If our website is confusing, we want to know about it so we can fix it.

Q: How do I deal with people who are out-of-game?

A: Basically, you should ignore them. You can see them in-game, you know they are people who are dreaming, so you can interact with them, but most denizens of the Dreaming see no reason to. So it's okay to give someone a light, ask them, "Hey, did you see a guy in a trench coat run by?" or something like that, but try to keep your distance.

Q: I'm a Dead God. How, exactly, does my Altar work?

A: First, pick a place on campus to be your Altar. This could be your dorm room, it could be a cook clearing in the woods, it could even be the dining hall if you're gutsy enough. You'll want to pick a somewhat secluded place where you're comfortable spending time. When people come to worship you, you may specify how dedicated to their worship they must be - you may require your worshippers to kneel and chant a sacred verse over and over, or you could just specify that they hang out at the Altar and repeat your name every so often. At the very minimum, they must read a verse, chant your name, sing a hymn, something holy like that, for at least 1/10th of the time they spend at the Altar. Remember that you can only gain 6 Faith per person per day.

Q: What if I cook up some crazy scheme to somehow gain mana so I don't have to cast spells out of my Faith?

A: No.

Q: But what if I--

A: No.

Q: What can I do with Astral Magic?

A: Lots of bad-ass stuff. You can change the game physics, altering skill costs, experience distribution, lots of crazy stuff. You can permanently kill characers. You can stop time. Like I said, bad-ass stuff.

Q: Sounds awesome, how do I learn Astral Magic?

A: Find out in-game.

Q: Why am I not getting a full 10 experience every week?

A: I will award you more experience if you put effort into the game. Don't play a character that sits on his butt and waits for stuff to happen. Make enemies, stir up trouble. Conspire, plot, scheme. Start guilds, tell stories, assasinate someone, learn secrets, spread misinformation... do something that makes the game fun. Be interesting. The fun-ness of this game is based on how much effort the players put into it. This isn't a game where plot comes to you; you have to make your own plot.

Q: I've got an idea for a new skill/spell/race/whatever.

A: Beautiful. Send it to us. Keith and Dan AND JOSH! will talk it over, and maybe it'll become a part of the Dreaming.

Q: As a Fae / Dead God / Lost Soul, how do I leave game?

A: Well, you can't phase-out like a Vision can, so technically you're trapped in the Dreaming. If you want to quit for a while, go somewhere private. If you're sure no one's following you, take off your arm-band. This represents that your character wandered off somewhere and can't be found or bothered.

Q: How far does the Dream Country go?

A: Basically, Purchase Campus. We'll rule that it extends about a half-mile around Purchase, including the Red-Light and the Belle Faire neighborhood.

: Where does Quicksilver and Cold Iron come from, and where does it go?

A: ALCHEMY! WHOOOOO, AND some npcs may pay you. After you use materials for something (creating a talisman, weapons, et cetera), give the tag to Dan Comstock at the earliest convenience.

Q: Dude, the coolest thing happened, let me tell you all about it...

A: Dude, don't talk out-of-game about stuff which is happening in-game. It's just bad LARP policy to explain your motivation and whatnot. If you were killed by someone and no one else knows, keep your fool mouth shut or other people will suspect that person and be edgy around them. If you talk out-of-game about stuff that happens in-game, it creates a situation where people can cheat. Just don't let it happen. If someone starts talking OOG about someone else's IG scenario, tell them that you'd rather find out in-game.

Q: Fawkwaaaaad!

A: Well that's not actually a question, but thank you very much.

Q: I know I'm supposed to send an e-mail in order to get XP, but I don't want to tell him about my plot to kill him.

A: That's also not a question, fool, but I'll respond anyway. We will not metagame or take your weekly summary as in-game knowledge. And if you find out he is, you have his permission to beat the piss out of him.

Q: I suspect someone of cheating / metagaming.

A: Tell me about it. If they are, in fact, cheating, they shall receive the full brunt of my wrath. And no, telling on someone for cheating doesn't make you a tattle-tail, it just means you respect the game we're playing and the rules we're playing by. Fair is fair.

Q: I'm confused about how I take damage.

A: Most damage calls (silver, cold iron, flame, ice, lightning, et cetera) damage your Health points. If you are a Dead God, you do not have Health Points, so it damages your Faith pool. You subtract the number you were hit for from your total number. If someone swings a weapon at you and says "2 silver", you lose two points of health. If you are a Fae, you multiply any damage done to you by Cold Iron by two. So if someone hits you, a Fae, for "3 cold iron", you take it as 6 damage. If you are a Vision, you also have an essence number, in addition to Health. Any damage calls with "essence" in them will affect this number. Essence damage will also affect Dead Gods' Faith pool. So in summary...

Visions - anything damages Health, except that essence damages essence.

Lost Souls - effected by everything except for essence.

Fae - effected by everything but essence, Cold Iron does double damage

Dead Gods - everything effects the Faith pool

Q: Hey man can i NPC?

A: Sure! Write us up a full plot and send it to talesofthedreaming@yahoo.com. We will review your plot and work with you on it. You can play the main npc role in it if you want. However do not randomly come to us and ask to npc, it gets irritating. If we need an npc, we will come to you.

Q: How does the message board work?

A: It's quite simple. On the in-game board its a representation of tacking notes up to the wall. So you can send messages to other pcs, advertise for something in the dream country, like a weapon for sale, or what not. It isn't for roleplaying on. This is a LARP, so roleplaying should be done IN-GAME not on the message boards. The out of game board is for other stuff like rules questions, event postings, mod postings, if someone is casting astral magic, the drawing effect will be posted on the out of game board. Stuff like that.

Q: Can i borrow a boffer weapon?

A: No. We do not lend out weapons anymore. If you are playing a class that requires you to have a weapon then make sure you have a phys rep constructed before you forge it in game.

Q: How do i make a boffer weapon?

A: There is a new section of the website that explains how to make a boffer weapon. Go here. to learn more or just find Dan the Saftey Marshall, Josh, or Keith, and we'll be happy to help.
