Places
Chains of Fate Location Summary
This is a list and description
of the locations mentioned in Chains of Fate, in order of introduction. Some of
the same locations will be used in Chains of Fate: The All-Seeing Eye.
Cities, Central Continent
Andiril: Dominique
LaChance grew up here. It is a small and quiet town just outside of Zerica with
dirt roads, and it is known for its pharmaceuticals and alchemists. Many
Zericans come to this town for a break from their own bustling city.
Zerica: A very large city
near Andiril. It is filled with crime, and the city is known for its many bars.
There are a huge amount of weapon/armour shops in this city, and the people here
don’t like newcomers.
Mesidia: A coastal city
where the king (King Darius in original Chains of Fate) of the central continent
resides. The city is beautiful and peaceful above, with a large castle looking
over the ocean, but below it is a labyrinth of dungeons and torture chambers.
This is where the fate of the central continent is decided, since all decisions
are made by the king and his advisors.
Cities, Eastern Continent
Caan’dri: A stunningly
beautiful tropical village where the people live in grass huts near palm trees
and white sand. It is not a tourist attraction surprisingly, but everyone who
happens upon it falls in love with the reefs and the kind people. But there is a
legend about a sea monster that lies sleeping below the crystal waters.
Lok’ren: The holy city
where there is no crime. The town is medium-sized, and everyone who lives here
is involved with religion in some way, or are in training to become involved. It
is the city where paladins are trained.
Fidel: The crime and
theft in this city is a hundred times worse than that of Zerica. It is by far
the most crime-filled city on the planet, and you cannot walk two steps without
being robbed. It is absolved of its sin when Eyrto, the White Dragon, is called,
and Fidel becomes a holy city like Lok’ren.
Tert-tran: The mystical
city that is known for its excess in wizards and magical shops. If you are
searching for a rare magical item, you will find it here. Many people fear
Tert-tran, believing it is a city of evil, but this city can be of great help to
people. This is due to the range of mages that reside here, from healers to
black mages.
Desert: This is a harsh,
dry, and hot place where a great number of powerful enemies can be found. It
stretches very far, and while people of the southern cities dare not cross it,
they know perfectly well what awaits them. The people of the southern cities
also wish to know what lies beyond the mountains at the desert’s end.
Kannis: A city just on
the other side of the mountains that lie past the desert. The town is filled
with mindless “zombies,” the result of what happens when the Chains of Fate
are misused. It’s a frightening place, and any living person would not survive
long in this cold town where even food is a ghost.
Black Forest: This
massive forest is a place where pretty much anything could happen. Usually, this
refers to evil things. It is inhabited by sprites and ogres, and the mysterious
“Green Man” who will reward you in exchange for some services. There is also
“the Archers,” led by a man named Jett, who can train people to do
impossible things.
Dark Tower: A huge black
tower that is not visible until you get very close to it, even though it is very
tall. It is surrounded by a beautiful paradise, and inside, the “Gates” can
take you to different dimensions, including the parallel universe where the
Chains of Fate are kept. In fact, the inside of the tower itself is another
dimension. The Guardians (led by Damien and his second-in-command, Jared)
maintain the tower, and control the Gates. Only Guardians can open the Gates.
Dimensions
These are the dimensions
mentioned in Chains of Fate, all of which can be reached from the Dark Tower.
Hisarith: A dimension
where you can do, see, and experience anything you want. It is sometimes called
“Life’s Heaven.”
Laren-Ya: The smallest
dimension of them all, also Thera’s (the Goddess of the Earth) canvas. It
looks like a beautiful, flowery meadow.
Wasteland: It is a unique
dimension because it is made up of "Rooms" that can be closed off and
locked to outsiders. Rooms are much like different worlds altogether, and most
Rooms cannot be entered from another Room, only from Gateways in the Dark Tower.
The Alternate (see below) is actually a Room inside of the Wasteland. The main
part of the Wasteland mentioned in the original Chains of Fate is a barren,
fog-filled place where the dead can meet with the souls of the living. No matter
how much you walk, you will always stay in the same place.
Junare: A horrible,
water-filled dimension where you will definitely die. Also known as “Life’s
Hell,” no one knows why anyone would go to Junare. There are enemies here far
worse and far hungrier than sharks and giant squids.
The White Room: There is
nothing in this dimension, except a whole lot of white paint. For some, this is
“Life’s Hell.”
The Alternate: Our dimension’s parallel universe. Everyone has a parallel self here, who have similar bodies and names (for example, Dominique’s parallel was Veronique, and Zoltan’s was Yoltan). The parallel selves are the Chains of Fate’s guardians. This is the most heavily guarded of each dimension, and the whole point of the Dark Tower is to be a gateway to this dimension.
New Locations
The following is a list of some
of the new locations that will be used in Chains of Fate: The All-Seeing Eye.
They are all found on the western continent, which was not explored last time.
Verscia: An incredible
small town on the northern part of the western continent. It is also the
northern-most town on the planet, since no one wishes to live any further north.
The snow never leaves the ground, and the forest surrounding it is very easy to
get lost in. The forest, called the White Forest, has many frozen swamps,
including a particularly infamous one known only as the Moor. It was mentioned
in Chains of Fate as Dominique’s birthplace, but it’s name was unknown. This
is the town where Azura moved when she was sixteen.
Alverni: The capital of
the western country, a fairly large city known for technology. Sometimes
referred to by the elders as the “Pagan City” because of the “evil”
inventions that come from it, people from Verscia must travel the 45 miles to it
once a month for supplies (whether they like Alverni or not).
Hatlerna: An ordinary
town that is not known for anything. It is a medium-sized city, a good place to
start a family—if you don’t mind being too close to Alverni and Vexia.
Ser’naken: Located on
the south-eastern Ser’naken Peninsula, this city takes up a lot of land. Not
only does it occupy the peninsula, islands of the Ser’naken Archipelago are
bridged together. Homes of the residents are built on the city’s outskirts,
usually only about one or two homes per small island. This is also a major port,
the largest on the planet, so Ser’naken is a merchant-rich city. Because of
this, The city is sometimes extremely busy and sometimes extremely empty,
depending on when certain shipments come in.
Lyrna: Much like Hatlerna,
Lyrna is an ordinary town, but it produces very fine fabrics. It also sells most
of what comes out of the Phexra Mine.
Phexra Mine: A huge mine
located to the southwest of the central continent. Since it is not attached to
any continent, but rather an uninhabited island, there are debates regarding who
owns this incredibly profitable mine. It is rich in many materials useful for
armour and weapons, but also for supplies needed for everyday life.
Shaden: The smallest, but
the most dangerous, town on the central continent. The royal army guards this
region carefully as there are rumours the town is filled with spies and thieves.
The Iselna Pass: An unexplored region in the Vexian Sea (Which lies between the western and eastern continent) where sailors dare not go. Not only is this area said to be filled with sea monsters and sirens, but it is also where Vexia is said to be found. Vexia is the home of the Gods, and should any mortal travel to this place, they will be damned to Hell forever.
