Logfile from PernMUSH
On the sands, Dzurath looks out over the eggs for a long moment
then turns and nudges Jenryth with a deep rumble.
Barracks>> Kalina has arrived.
Barracks>> Divya strolls in from the bowl.
Barracks>> Divya has arrived.
Barracks>> Maelyan raises her hands to her mouth, giggling
at both Ysabel and the sleeping Kaneda. "What a violent Kaneda. Such a
sour wherry too. Or might that be bovine?" Pause. "I'll sit on him,
too." Amilin's presense is rewarded with the sight of Maelyan looking
underneath her cot. "Inspection, Ami?"
On the sands, Jenryth slowly lifts her head as she awakes from her
nap and looks to Dzurath before she starts to raise the hum for the eggs.
Barracks>> G'non meanders in from the bowl.
Barracks>> G'non has arrived.
HRW-LC> J'han blinks, "One of her mothers? There's more
than one?" He asks, scratching his slightly overgrown hair, "Jedi
only has one mother, don't you sweetheart?" Jedi stares at her father for
a moment, before getting that 'Dad's so embarassing' look that toddlers perfect
and ignoring him in favour of sweetrolls again.
On the sands, Dzurath looks back at the eggs and begins to hum for
them as well, the deep base sound thrumming into the hatching sands.
Zsofyth lands after Tezcath, dropping Mallea off, she says to the
others gathered, "I just came to look at the eggs but, oh that is
humming!"
HRW-LC> Sh'yar smiles, "Well Kaelyn her mother mother and
Jacera her foster mother."
Barracks>> Ysabel starts to get up in order to carry out her
threat, but then the AWLMs arrive and she decides that quickly making her bed
would be a better idea. "Hello ma'ams, sir." Look at the innocent
little candie.
Dragon> High Reaches dragons sense that Dzurath begins to hum
deeply for the eggs on the sands, the sound carrying across the weyr.
HRW-LC> Geridon folds the tunic he's holding carefully and puts
it on the finished stack of neatly folded clothes.
Barracks>> Jel meanders in from the bowl.
Barracks>> Jel has arrived.
Barracks>> Kaneda grunts in his sleep, moaning about
sharding, sharp-tongued, noisy women that won't let a man get his rest. All the
pillows of both his cot and the one to the side are flung at Maelyan and Ysabel
with surprising force. There, that should shut them up. Now he can go .. back
.. to ... sleep ...
HRW-LC> Jorinn stands up, looking over to Geridon, "Well,
I better go meet up with the others, if we're going to be heading out
again." He waves at the others, and heads for the Lower Caverns.
Barracks>> G'non nods. "Evening, Candidates. I hope all
of you have your robes ready?"
Verenth peers down at the sands, then lifts his head in a nearly
unheard hum.
HRW-LC> Kirana blinks. "That darn lizard." She gets
up. "Excuse me"
HRW-LC> J'han ahs, "Yeah, Had forgotten about tha..,"
He frowns as there's a sound of humming and he stares at his daughter,
"Jedi, is that you?" She mutely shakes her head and J'han glances
around to Sh'yar, "Can you hear something or have I been up way too late
recently?"
HRW-LC> Kirana wanders outside to the bowl.
HRW-LC> Kirana has left.
Barracks>> Kirana has arrived.
HRW-LC> Jorinn walks through the archway, into the lower
caverns.
HRW-LC> Jorinn has left.
Eveyth begins to hum happily and loudly!
Nepenth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he wings down and lands lightly on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Nepenth has arrived.
Nepenth lands softly on the ground and begins to hum quietly.
HRW-LC> Geridon waves to Kirana's back and then to Jorinns, as
they both desert him.
Barracks>> Maelyan grabs up a pillow that landed in front of
her and flings it back towards Kaneda. "Other people might have to use
those, you know!" Ysabel gets a broad wink before Maelyan salutes the
riders crisply. "Ma'ams, sir." Nobody saw that she's throwing
pillows.
Lhiannonth shifts slightly in her spot, picking up on the humming
and joining in.
Barracks>> Redus has arrived.
Barracks>> Divya follows the other AWLMS in the barracks.
She doesn't say anything, but her eyes don't miss much as they sweep the room.
Barracks>> Carianna sits quietly on her cot holding Beeth to
her chest as she watches the pillow fighting. When G'non enters she nods
lightly in reply but remains seated.
Barracks>> Amilin smiles in what she hopes is a calm manner,
"Alright everyone. Looks like it's time. We need you all to get into those
robes, please."
Barracks>> Kirana calls her lizard to get /over/ here and
calm /down/. Geeze.
Barracks>> Kaneda snorts awake with a popping nose.
"What? Huh? Where? Bubblies?" he bemoans, seeing his dream-pastries
slip away before his eyes.
Barracks>> Kirana hrms? "Time? Time? Fer what?"
Barracks>> Ryse puts on his robe.
Barracks>> Kalina has been quiet, just sitting upon her cot,
but now her gaze is lifted, her eyes go wide, and she shakes her head.
"Not /already/," is her whisper, though even as she says it, she is
up on her feet, hurriedly changing out of her clothes and in to her robe. She
waits, wringing her hands out.
Barracks>> From outside a distinct humming begins to be
heard.
Verenth would spread his wings to emphasize his humming, but he
might knock some other dragon who is landing.
HRW-LC> Geridon hefts up the basket, walking toward the lower
caverns with it. He returns shortly empty handed, and waves to Sh'yar and
J'han.
HRW-LC> Geridon meanders outside to the bowl.
HRW-LC> Geridon has left.
Barracks>> Cierra looks over at Amilin and nods, not visibly
exhibiting any nervousness besides her quick steps to retrieve her robe. A
quick intake of breath when she gets it and looks it over one last time is the
only indication she gives as she starts to change into it.
Barracks>> Ysabel blinks. "Time? Robes? Oh, you have to
check our robes." She carefully removes a neatly folded mass of white from
her press and drapes it over her bed. "Do we need to wear them?" Then
the humming penetrates her ears and she frowns. "What is that noise?"
Omfaleth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before she backwings to a neat landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Omfaleth has arrived.
Barracks>> Geridon walks in from the bowl.
Barracks>> Geridon has arrived.
Reye grasps Omfaleth's thick flying straps, using both them and
her lifemate's raised golden forelimb to slide to the ground.
Reye has arrived.
Barracks>> "You want some of my bubblies? Okay, Kaneda.
Warning you, though, they are /terrifying/." All of a sudden, Maelyan's
eyes go wide. "Is the ground shaking, or is that just me?" The white
blob is eyed before she lifts it up, taking the needle and sticking it into the
corner of her cot again. "Hmm. I think the kitchens are working full-time,
Ysa."
Barracks>> G'non says "Time for..." He pauses as
the humming becomes audible and jerks a thumb over his shoulder. "For
that." He walks up and down the line, checking Candidates' robes as they
finish dressing. He nods approvingly, then pauses. "Eldar...HOW did you
manage to get berry stains on your Candidate robe?" A somewhat overweight
Candidate shrugs helplessly."
Barracks>> Kirana fumbles for her robe and only then notices
the pile of ivory and the scrap of hide. She reads slowly, sounding it out,
then goes all dreamy-eyed and gladly shrugs into the robe that Geridon gave her
as a gift. Isn't he /sweet/. *swoon*
Barracks>> Jhenni slips sideways, out of range of the
pillows. "Yes'm", she says with a sort of supressed excitement.
"The robe." She quickly exchanges tunics and trousers for the simple
shapelessness of the robe, and tucks a clean hankerchief inside; the cold
reddens her nose even now. Dressed, bck, she shuffles up close with the others
and gives Eldar a sympathetic glance. "Oh but this is exciting."
Chaedanth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling
momentarily before he glides to a swift landing on on one of the ledges
overlooking the sands.
Chaedanth has arrived.
Barracks>> Redus slipped in behind people and is now in the
vicinity of his cot, robing.
Barracks>> Kaneda shakes his head to clear the sleep from
his mind, blinking yellow eyes as awake as possible. "My robe? Where is
it? Where is it?" he panics, suddenly realizing with a smack to the brow
that he -never- picked one out. Pulling off his clothes like a man on fire,
Kaneda scrambles comically naked to the basket, sighing as if the white robe is
a balm to burning skin as he gets dressed.
Barracks>> Geridon walks in, his fingers rubbing his ear.
"What's with all the dragons.." he asks, his voice trailing off as he
sees everyone getting into their robes. "Is it *time*?!" he asks
excitedly, picking up his step to move quickly toward his press. A pause for an
approving look at Kirana and grin.
Chaedanth swoops in onto the ledges and alights carefully. As he
does his large head leans out to peer down at the eggs and his own hum joins
the others. His wings settle back upon his form and from his back Kandri sits
and watches. At least for the moment.
Barracks>> Carianna sets Beeth down then stands and makes
her way tot he change screen, slipping into the robe then reappears. She seems
quiet, though not nervous. "I was sure it would be another sevenday."
Barracks>> Barzerk pulls on his robe with disdain.
"This makes me look like a /girl/." he complains.
Barracks>> Geridon flinches as a small brown firelizard
abruptly leaps from his shoulder, taking flight.
Barracks>> Jel had recently come from the water caverns, his
hair dark with wet, leaving his face totally exposed, to show his eyes become
wide. He doesn't immediately act. Just pauses to process the humming. And then
swift fingers hunt for his robe. They find it. They hold it. The boy savors
this moment. It's an experience.
Barracks>> Ysabel doesn't quite understand what's going on,
but who is she to srgue with the AWLMs? She quickly shrugs into her robe and
smooths it down, fussing with the fit of it. Her boots are discarded in favor
of sandals, with Maelyan's special inserts in them. "There. All ready."
She looks around and her eyes slowly widen as she realizes this isn't just an
inspection. "Oooooh..." All the air hisses out of her lungs in a long
stream.
HRW-LC> Sh'yar says "I think it's just about time."
Barracks>> Cierra nods at Carianna. "Or any time
besides right now. It seems you never really expect it when it finally comes,
even if you've been waiting for it for so long."
Barracks>> G'non says "No, no time to fix it now...if
your lifemate's out there, he or she isn't going to be worried by a few
stains." He moves on down the line, nodding approval at Carianna's robe.
"Yes, Geridon...it's time."
Barracks>> Kirana ties her sandals in a knot, wondering out
loud, "But. . . it's snowing outside. Our feet are goin' ter freeze
solid."
On the sands, Matheny looks over her shoulder as she hits the
sands and smiles as she sees S'rist is right behind her. "They're getting
the candidates ready. None of the eggs have cracked yet." as she speaks a
dark blue egg shimmers with visible motion but the shell stays intact.
Barracks>> Kaneda finds a robe, thank Faranth' a shame the
robe is made for a person a foot taller than the rather short Candidate lad.
Picking up the skirts above his knees, he trip-scrambles back to his cot to
stand with the others in a row.
HRW-LC> Sh'yar strides outside to the bowl.
HRW-LC> Sh'yar has left.
HRW-LC> J'han meanders outside to the bowl.
HRW-LC> J'han has left.
Barracks>> Maelyan grapples with the white blob that soon
becomes her robe this time, making for the changing screen. A few muffled
noises are head and then Maelyan reappears, looking frazzled, but fine.
"See? Hopefully this strips help." She plops down on her cot only to
find it's not there, and lands on the floor. "Why me?" Sandals are
found and then hauled onto her feet. "Ysa, Kira, you guys going to stick
with me? Ryse, too?"
Jyrinth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he flies down to land gently on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Jyrinth has arrived.
Barracks>> Geridon quickly bends, tying his sandals around
his ankles and grins at Kirana. "Only till we get on the sands.. I can't
believe it's finally time."
Barracks>> Carianna smiles over at Cierra, then steps over
and hugs her lightly. "You'll be fine. Stay close to Redus and I ok? I
don't want anything happening to you out there."
On the sands, S'rist double steps to catch up with Matheny,
"Yes, looks like they're just about to go though."
Barracks>> Merwen tugs on her robe as if she's in a daze.
When ready she goes to stand for inspection.
Barracks>> Kirana glances at Geridon and then back at
Jhenni. "Well, sure. Of course we can be near ya."
Barracks>> Divya claps her hands and scolds a few of the
slower candidates. "Move it, move it, move it! The eggs won't wait for
latecomers!"
Barracks>> G'non pauses in front of Kaneda, eyeing the robe
which comes nearly down to the Candidate's ankles. He tries hard to keep his
expression impassive, but a hint of a smile cracks the corners of his mouth.
Without a word, he produces a couple of pins from his belt pouch and offers
them to the boy.
Barracks>> Ysabel smiles nervously around the room at her
friends. "Jhenni? Mae, Kirana? Someone had better stand by me."
Kirana's comment is received with a groan. "Great. Like I wasn't cold
enough before."
Gyreventh emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling
momentarily before he wings down and lands lightly on on one of the ledges
overlooking the sands.
Gyreventh has arrived.
Barracks>> Jel dons his robe with economy, baring his body
just briefly. He belts it with a white cord, securing it with a knot. One that
may prove difficult to lose later on. He keeps his own counsel. A pink flush
blooms on his cheeks.
Jyrinth floats leisurely towards the ledge, back-winging neatly to
land. J'han sits up on the dragon's blue back, Jedi nestled in his arms,
"Dragons!" The toddler yells as J'han swings down, leaning against
Jyrinth's side with her daughter, "Can you see Mummy yet?" He asks
Verenth's humming, that which can be heard, picks up in intensity.
Barracks>> Geridon straightens, checking his clothing to
make sure he looks.. well like everyone else. Standing up, he moves to stand
beside Kirana. "It looks great on you," he grins, gesturing at her
robe.
Sh'yar vaults down Gyreventh's side to the ground, as the dragon
rumbles softly.
Sh'yar has arrived.
Barracks>> Redus pushes the sleeves of his robe up cuz he
knows it'll be warm as he meanders over to Cari. he smiles at Cierra and nods,
agreeing with the candi/baker.
Barracks>> Jhenni gives Kirana and encouraging if somewhat
erratically nervous bob of the head. She tries to focus on the Riders, and
takes a few scuttling sideways steps closer to Ysabel'n the rest. "Today
is a /good/ day to Stand."
Barracks>> Divya answers Kirana, "The hot sands will
thaw them out right quick. Your feet won't stay cold long."
Barracks>> Dira struggles to her feet, holding up the hem of
her robe wtih one hand. The youngest candidate yips with excitement and looks
around.
Barracks>> Ryse nods to Jel as he moves to stand near
Maelyan and the others.
Barracks>> Cierra smiles and hugs Carianna back. "I'll
be fine, and so will you."
Nepenth bugles at those arriving. His eyes whirling with happiness
and excitement. He begins to hum more loudly.
Barracks>> Kirana smiles at Geridon. "Thank you,"
she says, shyly.
Barracks>> Kalina takes a deep breath, expression plagued
with doubt, as she steps away from the safe comfort of her cot, to stand with
the others, brushing a strand of hair away from her face.
Barracks>> Saylia tugs irritably at her robe. "It's so
plain and boring." she complains. "How is a dragon supposed to notice
me in this thing?"
Mallea smiles and waves to the others gathered as she goes to take
a place near T'nel, "Oh, I am so nervous for Cierra, Redus and the
others."
Barracks>> Kaneda takes the pins with a grateful smile,
almost bowing to G'non as he attempts to fix his trailing robe. Its a little
crooked and uneven, but it'll do at least, and he should not fall to his face
by tripping on the hems.
From between Jyrinth's neck ridges, J'han has left.
J'han slides carefully down on the Blue, giving his head an
affectionate pat.
J'han has arrived.
Barracks>> "If you'd like to hold one of my feet, you
can, Ysa. Kirana has one of my hands, and Ryse has the other. But maybe Kira
has a free hand so we could all be in one big group? Jhenni, you too."
There is a stifled noise from Maelyan. "But it's snowing out there!"
Or maybe not. It's sleeting, rather. "My robe makes me look like a
tuber."
Barracks>> Matar clumsily pulls on his sandals, fumbling
with the straps on them. Finally he just ties them in a knot, and stands up,
looking nervously at the others.
Abbe grins. "Well I have a couple of Marks on Ryse, I was
impressed with his cheek."
Barracks>> Kirana ums to maelyan. "Well, I sorta
promised ter Geridon. . . " she says, a little embarassed.
Barracks>> G'non starts lining Candidates up at the door as
they pass inspection. "You don't have far to go, don't worry. Take a few
deep breaths."
Barracks>> Ysabel giggles at Maelyan. "You don't look
like a tuber. Maybe Geridon can hold Jhenni's hand and I'll hold Jhenni's other
hand? Would that work?" She looks around for Geridon. "Might make it
hard to walk."
Barracks>> Jel welcomes Ryse's nod, answers it with his own,
but he holds himself apart, his body tense. He avoids eye contact, lifting his
chin high, as distant as can be. This is how he calms himself.
Sh'yar chuckles, "Don't you mean cheeks Abbe?" he
teases.
Barracks>> Amilin moves back by the door, "I need
people that are checked out ok to lone up by the door here please. In pairs. We
need to move out to the Weyrleaders ledges."
Barracks>> Geridon grins at Kirana, looking pleased. He
points out, "You have two hands though, just let one of them hold the
other. We can figure it out when we get on the stsands." As G'non speaks,
he follows the bronzeriders instructions, and indeed takes a few calming
breaths before reaching out for Kirana's hand, gesturing toward Amilin.
Abbe grins. "Just cos he's young and cute!"
Barracks>> "Uhuh", says the Jhenni with a flashing
grin. "I can see it now. I'll flall down flat on my face, and take the
both of you with me." She's trying to be normal -- but her eyes are too
big, and her attention trying to focus on everything at once: Jhenni the
sponge, soaking it up. She even spies the Jel in all of that, and watches him a
moment.
Barracks>> Carianna moves to the indicated spot by the door
then waits for others to join. At Ami's instuctions she holds her hand out for
Redus to take then steps out.
Barracks>> Carianna strolls out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Carianna has left.
Barracks>> Kirana clings to Geridon. "You'll be my
partner, right?"
Barracks>> Pairs? Pairs? Kaneda does not have a pair.
"I need a body! I need a body!" he warbles, running about the chamber
to try to find someone that has not already joined with a friend or companion;
his robe flaps behind him, the great big garment hanging off his small body.
Mallea grins at Abbe, "Isn't that the only way to pick
them?"
Verenth whips his tail impatiently. Where are the peoples? The
eggs are soon to Hatch, and there is noone on the sands!
Barracks>> Ryse rubs the scar on his cheek absently. He
looks calm as he smiles at Maelyan. "I know tubers and you certainly don't
look like one." He leans towards her and says, "You look great."
Barracks>> Redus hears Amilin's words and looks between
Cierra and Cari before chuckling. Taking Cari's hand he goes.
On the sands, Noir Egg gives a rather slow roll from its spot, a
rather reluctant motion at best. It makes perhaps one full rotation before it
comes to a stop again.
Barracks>> Jel makes himself available to Amilin's
direction. He edges close, part of small crowd, and lets himslef be directed.
Barracks>> Ysabel reaches for Jhenni's hand. "Well,
that solves that. Jhenni, be my partner? If you fall I'll haul you back
up."
Barracks>> Geridon nods to Kirana, "Of course I
will.." He gives her hand a reasuuring squeeze.
<<Insert Mass Candidate Exodus Here>>
Barracks>> Divya shooes the candidates out to the bowl, one
by one.
Barracks>> Amilin walks out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Amilin has left.
Barracks>> Ysabel strides out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Ysabel has left.
On Chaedanth, Kandri remains upon Chaedanth's shoulders with her
arms crossed and expression serious. She watches the sands with a keen eye and,
for the moment, quiet demeanor.
Barracks>> Jhenni strolls out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Jhenni has left.
Barracks>> Divya says, "Maelyan, it's time to go.
Outside, if you please?"
Barracks>> Maelyan fumbles for something else, then.
"Hey, that'd work, Ysabel! Excellent idea. But someone might have to catch
me if the heat gets to me." There's another lapse before she continues
with a nod. "I do too look like a tuber." She heaves a sigh before tilting
her head towards Ryse. "Aww. That's nice of you to say. But I still think
I look like a tuber. A /great/ tuber." She shuffles. "I'm
going."
Barracks>> Maelyan walks out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Maelyan has left.
Nepenth rises effortlessly off of the ledge and into the air.
Crossing the cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Nepenth has left.
Barracks>> Divya meanders out to the bowl.
Barracks>> Divya has left.
Gyreventh humms a deep rumbling humm joining in the draconic
chorus.
Nepenth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he backwings to a neat landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Nepenth has arrived.
Nepenth launches off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Nepenth has left.
Chaedanth continues his humming as he looks out over the ledges.
His wings ruffle slightly stirring up a cool breeze around him and Kandri, but
otherwise doesn't move.
On the sands, Amilin heads out of the passageway, pausing to bow
to Dzurath and Jenryth before making her way over to the Weyrleaders,
"They are ready."
On the sands, S'rist looks over as one of the assistant
weyrlingmasters shows up, "Good, bring them out, the eggs are just about
to start cracking." he shouts back over the din of the humming dragons.
Lysseth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before she banks and lands neatly on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Lysseth has arrived.
Nepenth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he swoops down to a landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Nepenth has arrived.
Decarath emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he banks and lands neatly on on one of the ledges overlooking the sands.
Decarath has arrived.
Aquileth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he glides to a swift landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Aquileth has arrived.
On the sands, Matheny smiles to Amilin and nods, "Yes, should
be any moment now." She moves to stand with Jenryth as the gold dragon
keeps up her thrilling hum.
Nepenth soars slowly above everyone with two riders and finally
comes to settle on one of the ledges.
Y'il swings his leg over Aquileth's ridges and slides down the
straps to land on a bronze foreleg, which lowers him the rest of the way to the
ground. He hops off Aquileth's foreleg and pats the dragon affectionately for
the help.
Y'il has arrived.
Tierth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before she flies down to land gently on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Tierth has arrived.
Y'il grins up to Lillian. "You can get off now.
Nepenth begins to hum again with the group as he looks down at the
sands.
On Nepenth, Kaelyn has left.
Kaelyn jumps down Nepenth's side to the ground, using his straps
as handholds.
Kaelyn has arrived.
Decarath flies in, settling down by Lysseth and Tierth. His rider
unstraps herself and makes her way down to the ground.
Yashira dismounts Decarath.
Yashira has arrived.
On Nepenth, Jacera has left.
Jacera clambers down Nepenth's side to the ground, as the dragon
rumbles softly.
Jacera has arrived.
Maylia slides to the ground, giving Tierth a parting caress and a
tender smile.
Maylia has arrived.
Lillian swings her leg over Aquileth's ridges and slides down the
straps to land on a bronze foreleg, which lowers him the rest of the way to the
ground. She hops off Aquileth's foreleg and pats the dragon affectionately for
the help.
Lillian has arrived.
Kaelyn slides off Nepenth's back and offers her hand
Kaelyn waves and smiles at the other riders. "Greetings"
Sh'yar smiles, "Hey clutchmate... join me?" he pats the
edge of the ledge next to him.
Jacera slides down Nepenth's shoulder and lands beside Kaelyn,
taking her offered hand. She smiles and waves in greeting. "Good evening,
everyone."
On the sands, Amilin smiles and nods as she turns to watch the
first pair make their way out onto the sands.
Lysseth picks out a place on the ledges for herself, one a
respectful distance from the out-Weyr dragons but near where the others of
Telgar settle. "Duties to the 'Reaches and her queens," Kassima calls
from on high, fiddling with straps. "Blue first this Hatching, I'm
thinking! Who's taking the wagers?"
Kassima slides down from Lysseth's neckridges to land beside her
with ease. Lysseth cocks her head at her rider, rumbling quietly as Kassi gives
her eyeridges a grateful scratching.
Kassima has arrived.
Verenth gets jostled as another dragon lands next to him, a large
bronze.
Kaelyn leads her mate slowly over to where Sh'yar is sitting.
"Can we join you Shar?"
Sh'yar smiles, "Of course."
Y'il gets comfy on Aquileth's foreleg. "Hey Lillian, you want
a seat?"
On Chaedanth, Kandri glances down and over a ways as Kaelyn and
Jacera arrive. She lifts a hand in a wave though said hand barely wavers back
and forth. Then it is tucked back in over her chest as she turns her attention
out over the sands.
Josilina looks over as more and more dragons arrive, "'Lo
everyone!" She greets cheerfully. "Duties to Telgar." She adds
to Kassima and the others from Telgar.
Lillian grins, nodding to those she has met before from the other
weyrs. She then looks to Y'il with a smile of thanks. "Aquileth won't mind
will he?" She looks at the other foreleg. "I wouldn't want to make
him uncomfortable."
On the sands, Geridon gingerly makes his way across the sands, his
hand holding Kirana's tightly and looking rather dazed.
Y'il grins. "Nope. He hardly feels us, actually."
Chaedanth swivels his head over towards the arriving dragons and
away from the sands. His hum stopping just long enough for him to trumpet at
the visitors. It is the happier sort of trumpet and a moment later Chaedanth is
leaning his head over the ledge again, throat humming away.
Tierth joins in the chorus of humming dragons, talons scrabbling
on the stone of the ledges until she's situated herself in a comfortable
position close to - but not too close to - Lysseth. Like the other Telgar
greenrider, May offers, "Telgar's duties!" as she slips down from
Tierth's neckridges. "No, no, not blue! I'm thinking brown first, Kassi.
No marks on it, but brownf irst."
"Telgar's Duties to Reaches and her Queens," Yashira
calls out in greeting. She nods to Josilina with a cheerful enough look.
"I'm no good at betting. I'll say... brown."
Jacera follows Kaelyn to join Sh'yar. She smiles up at Kandri and
waves to her as well.
Y'il grins to Lillian. "Hey, you'll be able to tell everybody
that you got to see it from the dragon's ledges. That's special you know."
THen he remembers "Oh yeah, Ista's duties to Reaches and her queens.
On the sands, Makai comes onto the sands with an excited swirl of
his beautiful amber eyes. He looks around to see where everyone is, then is
suddenly aware of the heat under his feet and starts to shift from foot to
foot. His eyes widen as he surveys the rocking eggs, hopping from foot to foot
in anticipation.
On the sands, Noir Egg makes another little half turn, then there
is a little upset sounding outburst from inside.
Kassima flashes a quick grin to Josilina, along with a head-bob of
greeting, before shooting May an incredulous look: "Nay marks, May? Nay
*marks*? Then what fun or purpose in guessing? I'll never be understanding...
well, but I do think blue 'twill be, and if'n you change your mind on the wager
then let me know." Lysseth shifts just slightly over to the side to give
Tierth *plenty* of room. Kassi settles onto her foreleg, spreading her
wager-hide out on her lap. "I heard that Geridon's Standing. What think
you, brown for him?"
On the sands, Divya is a bit late following G'non in, since she
took the time to shed her jacket and gloves before walking out to the heat of
the Sands. She takes her position off to one side and quietly watches the
Candidates and eggs.
Abbe grins. "I hope those candidates hurry, that egg doesn't
seem to be able to wait for them."
Verenth gets excited as /Candidates/ come out onto the sands.
Yashira shakes her head, saying, "Blue for Geridon. I'll bet
on that."
Sh'yar says "Brown for Geri and Bronze for Ryse."
On the sands, The candidates all string out along the sands,
forming a arcing semi-circle around the mound of eggs. They all bow, not quite
in unison, to the dragons and weyrleaders back beyond the mound as the humming
of the dragons reaches a deafening roar.
On the sands, Scarlet with the Knife Egg sproings from it's nest
in the sands, driven by the excited struggles of the life within.
Lillian grins and slips onto the foreleg, aranging her skirt.
"Why thank you Aquileth." She nods to Y'il in perfect agremeent.
"I've no doubt of that Y'il. Of course I've never seen a hatching, so from
any advantage would be special."
On the sands, Kalina's expression is full of doubt, as she steps
with her partner onto the sand, hurriedly pulling into position around the
rocking eggs. She's not able to see everything that's going on, but the
movement of the Noir Egg is noted, and watched with blinking hesitation.
"Oh Faranth, I can't do this," she whispers, her head shaking.
"Oh, Faranth."
Nisanth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he backwings to a neat landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Nisanth has arrived.
On the sands, G'non joins Divya and Amilin to one side, allowing
himself a genuine grin now as he watches the Candidates fan out.
On the sands, With a shudder, a long crack forces it's way down
the length of the The Feline Who Wasn't There Egg. The force of the blow causes
it to slide down the small mound of sand propping it up. From the narrow end of
the egg, smaller cracks start to spread across the surface. Every time the egg
jerks to one side, another crack streaks its way outward from the initial
fissure. A shatter is heard, just as a brown head pokes its way out of the new
hole. Poking at his confinement a few more times, and the egg opens like a
winter coat, leaving the brown dragonet lying half in and half out of his old
home. His gaze whirls around a bit until he spots a group of young boys
standing nearby. The dragonet rolls over in the sand, onto his legs, carrying a
good sized portion of shell on his back. The brown dragonet sits down in front
of the boys, crooning, as a boy steps up to him and kneels, wiping tears from
his eyes. The young boy from Fort Hold pulls the shell from the dragonet's
back, and says to him, "It's OK. There is food nearby. This man will show
us where it is," as one of the assistants arrives to walk them from the
sands.
Catalina slides down Nisanth's shoulder and foreleg.
Catalina has arrived.
Nisanth watches Catalina as she slides down his neck and shoulder,
warbling softly at her when she's safely on the ground.
Hanreth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he glides to a swift landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Hanreth has arrived.
Chaedanth lifts his wings up and down across his sides, stirring
another breeze as he does so.
Yashira pumps her fist into the air. "Brown! Ha!"
On the sands, Matheny gives S'rist a relieved look the group of
candidates reach the sands safe and sound before the first egg cracks.
On the sands, Jel breaks from Cierra's side, perhaps fleeing the
pressure of a partner's expectations. He chooses a space between relative
strangers, candidates he need not talk to, need not look at. His back is to the
galleries. Does he fear the audience's expectations as well?
On the sands, Maelyan places a foot on the sand before gripping
tighter on Ryse's hand. With her free hand, though, she gestures towards
Kirana, perhaps dragging Ryse along with her on her path to her friends.
"Come on. I've got to get warmed up. I'm freezing!" Egg movements
aren't the least bit regarded as Maelyan attemptts to steer herself towards
Kirana and the others. "I think I'm going to be sick."
Kaelyn tilts her head slightly as she sees Kandri's half wave. She
then turns and smiles at Sh'yar. "How are you doing dear?"
On the sands, S'rist smiles, "There's the first one, they got
here just in the nick of time." He steps over closer to Matheny and
reaches out for her hand.
Sh'yar smiles, "Just remembering our hatching sweets.
Doesen't seem like so long ago that was us down there does it?"
On the sands, Cierra looks around to locate Carianna and heads in
that direction, standing as close to her as possible as the first egg release's
it's dragon. "A brown? And so quick!"
Kassima chews her lip. "If'n you care t'make that true by
putting marks down, Yash, then I'll--" Her words break off.
"Brown!" Her voice is an odd mixture of pleasure and disappointment.
"See, see, you two should have laid actual marks... nay that I'm
complaining too much. *Lyss* thought 'twould be a green, a'course. She always
does."
On the sands, Ysabel walks out with Jhenni, trying to see all
around her at once. The blue tinge of cold starts to fade with the warmth of
the sands as she stares at the moving eggs, jumping backwards slightly when the
first dragon hatches. "Oh!" she cries softly. "Oh, oh..."
On the sands, Jhenni exchanges one extreme for the other, moving
from Winter's cold to Sands' fierce heat on feet that felt neither one. Her
attention is elswhere -- adrenalin serving to dampen any discomfort -- and with
shakey but determined steps she takes her place with the rest. Ysabel's hand is
given a strong squeeze. "Oh /look/ Izzy. They're hatching!" No
kidding.
On the sands, From the grainy black Noir Egg a rounded and
temperamental young bronze dragon has emerged.
On the sands, Geridon gasps, startled as a brown hatches before
he's hardly gotten into his place in the loose semi circle of white robed
Candidates. "Look.." his voice trails as the brown quickly Impresses.
Maylia holds out a hand to indicate Yashira, triumphantly noting,
"See? Yashira agrees with me! Brown." Josilina's given a friendly
nod, before May snorts. "Instant I put down a wager, the little dragons
down there *hear* it, and change their minds. The brown that would've hatched
first somehow tells some blue to go first instead. Or a green decides she
doesn't want the boy I picked out, and goes for a girl." Ruefully, she
shrugs her shoulders. "So, no marks. It's still fun to guess. Look, there,
brown! Told you so!"
On the sands, Temperamental Cynical Bronze
The warmth of a newly forged metal encases this overweight
dragonet. His rich bronze hide accents his portly body, drawing attention to
his developing form and the strong line of a tail that is edged with the
faintest trace of a mica brightness. Although his hide looks as smooth and
polished as a bottle of premiere ale, the lighter yellowed platinum of his hide
pours over his chest and belly, breaking apart the uniformity of the deeper
color. His wedge-shaped head is large, his squashed snout and headknobs
complete the striking character of this young bronze genius. His voice is
brusque, arrogant in an extreme and his movements sedentary. They shall come to
him.
On the sands, Merwen had a loose and clammy grip on Samron's hand
as they settle into their place in the arc of bodies. She gasps as the first
impression is made, finding it to be so different from what she expected.
On the sands, Makai watches as the eggs start to hatch with
widened eyes. He strains to see what colors have hatches, standing on tippy to
look over the other eggs. "Do you see which ones have hatched?" he
asks to the candidate beside him. He shuffles his feet, amber eyes glowing.
On the sands, Divya grins like a wherry, as the first one hatched
and Impressed is a brown. Go browns!
On the sands, Carianna smiles briefly then moves into position in
the semi half circle watching the eggs with excitement. The hand she holds gets
squeezed in encouragement before a wink is sent to the other candidates.
"Oh a brown already!" She exclaims then congratulates the impression.
On the sands, "Aiee! Hot feet, hot feet, hot feet!"
Kaneda complains now that his frozen toes are out on the sands. Jiggling
amusingly from one leg to the other, the Candidate suddenly remembers the pins
in his too-large robe, and pulls them out to stand on the hem. "Ahhh
..." Then he sees the bronze. "Aiee!" he shouts again. "Its
comin' right for us!" Though thats hardly accurate.
Kaelyn chuckles and nods her head at Abbe's comment. "It
would be amusing if Geridon ended up with a green though.:"
On the sands, Scarlet with the Knife Egg rolls over and then back
again as small cracks and scars form over the heat hardened surface.
On the sands, Redus walks with Cari to a spot in the semi-circle,
but his attention is on the already active eggs. Squeezing the girls hand he
says, "There's one out. No two. Hold steady."
On the sands, Kalina's eyes widen, as the brown hatches, her
interest in his impression ensuring that she misses the hatching of the bronze
altogether. She almost smiles, briefly.
On the sands, Makai watches another candidate Impress with a sigh.
Oh well, he watches each egg hatch with a bright smile and amber excitement
spinning around in his spot excitedly. "Oh, what a pretty Bronze!" he
exclaims.
On the sands, Kirana swivels her head this way and that. "Oh,
I dunno where ter look!"
On the sands, G'non grins. "A bronze this early? A good sign.
Congratulations E'dar," he says, as the lad with the brown isescorted out.
Mallea hmps softly, "All the cute boys should impress brown
or blue I think, especially brown."
On the sands, Cierra blinks at the bronze. "Now, isn't he
interesting looking? I don't think I've seen another quite like it." She
looks around, perhaps wondering who he's meant for. She starts to shift her
sandaled feet in the sand already, trying to avoid either extremity getting too
hot.
Lillian's attention flickers from one newly hatched dragon to
another. "Its all so fast. Look Y'il, that Brown already found one...now
ther's a Bronze." There's an unusual amount of excitement in Lillian's
voice for one usually so prim.
Kassima gives the bronze a thoughtful once-over, but her
attention's drawn to one of the rocking eggs; gesturing towards the Scarlet
with the Knife Egg, she inquires of those nearest, "Green, think
you?"
Y'il smiles, patting Aquileth. "It always goes quickly,"
he comments.
Ember unstraps herself from Hanreth's neckridges, sliding down his
forelimb to the ground.
Ember has arrived.
J'nas unstraps himself from Hanreth's neckridges, sliding down his
forelimb to the ground.
J'nas has arrived.
On the sands, Temperamental Cynical Bronze gives a look about the
sands, and then just sits there. Looking almost as if in a disinterested pout.
He shifts a bit about on the sand to get comfortable. Then he turns his head to
look over the unhatched eggs, admiring them as if they were a display of exotic
orchids.
On the sands, Ryse rocks on the sands and squeezes Maelyan's hand.
He grins when he sees the young bronze dragon, but says nothing. Too much is
happening.
On the sands, Maelyan finally makes it to Kirana, sighing in
relief while grinning towards Ryse. "Now, it all starts. I'm still going
to be sick, though, I bet." She rubs at her eyes with her hand before
extending it towards Kirana. "Come on. I've got to keep you on the sands,
don't I?" Bronze hatchling is regarded with a keen look before Maelyan
breaths again. "He's a individual bronze."
On the sands, Ysabel can't speak. An awed expression on her face
she stands stunned, staring at the bronze, the rocking eggs, and occasionally
at the other candidates. Her feet are forgotten in the excitement of the
moment, and a smile crosses her face. "Arrogant little beast, isn't
he?"
On the sands, Divya nods and says to her fellow AWLM, "But
I'm glad a brown Impressed first. I just won a quarter-mark off that greenrider
Cissa from Ista, who bet a green would be the initial one."
On the sands, Geridon whistles softly under his breath, his hand
unconsciously gripping Kirana's even tighter. "Just stay on your
toes," he murmurs.
On the sands, An energetic and suave brown hatches from the
Scarlet with the Knife Egg and is ready for action.
On the sands, Suave Weyr-Smart Brown
Smooth mahogany rivers move over the hide of the hatchling in
simple, strong lines that announce a story of strength, breaking the uniformity
of the rich brown hide. Enveloped in the warmth of the colors, each movement he
makes accents his lean, handsome form. The splash of color flows smoothly down
his compact frame to meet in a mixture of mahogany and carob brown at the tip
of the long tail. The carob brown hide shimmers over his wing membranes from
the leading to the trailing edges, as if he is wearing an expensive,
well-tailored suit. He is tough and suave, his actions betray his view of the
world. His whirling eyes are sharp, taking in his surroundings with an
appreciation.
On the sands, Kaneda frowns at the pudgy bronze. "Its just
sitting there after all," he complains, seeming to wish rather that the
dragonet would 'come right for them' after all. "Isn't it su'pposed to
come over here?" he asks Makai.
Ember tries to sneak a bit closer to the rim, dragging J'nas by
the hand to stay at her side, "I forget, did you say you know any of the
Candidates?"
On the sands, G'non nudges Divya. "And another," he
murmurs, pointing out the new brown. "If it's browns you were wagering on,
you should do well."
On the sands, Jel is totally present and yet totally absent,
perhaps overwhelmed by sights he wants to see and emotions he wants to flee.
Many know that he thinks of candidacy as just an adventure to be had, and
that's it. And yet as much he may want to savor this experience, its
consequences have become all too real. His head bobs erratic. To see and not to
see.
On the sands, Amilin chuckles softly to Divya as she keeps a
watchful eye on the candidates and hatchlings, "Good bet then."
J'nas nods as he follows Ember to the edge. "Do you remember
Redus and Carianna from our Candidacy? They're out there. So is Jhenni."
On the sands, Kirana is apparently too overawed to move. Not
scared, but just. . . still. Very still. only her eyes move, looking around
from dragon to candidate and back.
On the sands, Kalina is not really managing to keep up-- she looks
this way, and then she looks that way, but she's still looking in the wrong way
as the brown hatches, her feet shuffling upon the sands. "I think, maybe,
I can do this," she mutters, to herself. "Maybe."
On the sands, A timid sort of quiver seems to pass over the Banded
Serpentine Egg. A moment or two pass and then another quiver of the same
hesitant type once again seems to take hold of the egg. Suddenly the egg takes
a jump to the left and then rolls slightly back to the right. Another jump
sends it left again and then as it starts to roll right once more a pair of
green legs burst out from the bottom. The young dragonet gives a violent
shaking thrust and sends the egg shards flying around randomly until she stands
free upon the sands. It's not long before a flamboyant young fellow finds
himself happily impressed to this new green.
On the sands, Carianna chuckles as she watches the bronze for a
moment. "He's not going anywhere fast. I wonder what he's looking
at?" Her feet moves up and down in the sands trying to shake off the bots
of hot burning that tickle the skin.
On the sands, Another Dimension Egg shudders in the sands, the
movement almost imperceptible. Did it really move? No, there it is again. Tiny
shudders briefly touch the egg as its occupant examines a potential Best Way
Out.
Sh'yar smiles and chats with his little family, "Who are your
marks on Jace?"
On the sands, Cierra watches the bronze and then looks around at
the candidates around here. "Maybe he'll get the idea when more of the
other hatchlings start moving and finding candidates?"
On the sands, Jhenni's excitement is evident in her short and
jerky movements, the continually shifting from one foot to the other, and the
occasional squeak of delight that escapes her despite all her efforts to the
contrary. She /watches/, all a'trembling. "C'mon blue, I want to see a
blue."
On the sands, Suave Weyr-Smart Brown shakes his shells off and
quickly takes in the situation, one big bronze genius doing nothing and a whole
lot of suspects to case. He might as well get started, the chance to stretch
his new legs alone will make it all worth while. He darts forward and start to
look over the candidates, one by one.
Maylia of course has a wine skin - what hatching would be complete
without it? Settling to lean against Tierth's foreleg, May breaks the seal on
the skin, then offers it over to her fellow Telgari. "Know any of'em down
there?" She asks them, squinting to peer at the candidates and hatchlings.
Lillian smiles brightly, "Ah, now isn't he hadsome." She
motions ot the new Brown arrival. "Oh, and a Green!" She keeps
smiling like that and her cheeks are going to be very sore indeed. "They
don't seem as ackward as I thought they might be. Rather sturdy."
On the sands, Divya applauds as A'zara finds a lifemate to match
his sense of flair.
On the sands, Kaneda almost forgets to shift from foot to foot,
even as he stands on the hem of his robe, staring at the imperious bronze, and
now this great brown fellow, both of whom seem to be taking their sweet time
... "Uh oh .. that one's moving quick!" he says, hiding behind
another candidate.
On the sands, Redus watches, not yet shifting his feet much in the
sand. The bronze that just sits is enough to let him spy the newest brown
hatchling. "Will ya look at that?" he says quietly as his eyes follow
him.
Kassima wrinkles her nose a bit, good-natured, at the emergence of
a brown. "Another ill guess, right after the other--glad I am that I don't
have a personal stake in this one. I've met Geridon, May, but only
marginally... methinks Cierra's Standing, though. I daresay you remember
her." Naturally, she's entirely too happy to take the wineskin from May.
Y'il nods to Lillian. "I wonder where the blues are?"
On the sands, Maelyan latches onto Kirana's free hand, having seen
that her friend is incapable of moving herself. "Bronze, brown? There's
too many!" Then, she turns her eyes to her shoes. "Hot, hot! My feet
feel sticky."
"Just Geridon," Yashira informs Maylia, clasping her
hands behind her back as she stands. "He's a hunter, too. Likes crossbows.
Oh, and Cierra!" She blinks, then, and peers at Maylia with a little quirk
of the lips. "How could we forget her, huh?"
On the sands, Makai does the candie dance from foot to foot.
On the sands, Cierra smiles at the brown. "Now *that* one
could teach the other a thing or two, don't you think?" She watches him
just as closely as he seems to be examining them, though she remembers not to
let her feet stay still for too long.
Jacera looks curiously toward Kassima as she hears Cierra's name
mentioned. "Yes, Cierra is out there."
Ember ohs! squinting out into the heat of the cavern, one hand
pushing already-damp curls back from her forehead, "I had not heard they
were Searched again. Cari and Redus, I mean. Nose stuck in those scrolls...oh!
I see them!"
On the sands, Temperamental Cynical Bronze continues to sit there.
Eyeing one of the eggs that just moved for a moment, but then it looses his
interest. He gives a brief look at the brown that is already out looking over
all the candidates, then looks away again, not interested in that either.
On the sands, Geridon is tense, his eyes flickering back and forth
from rocking eggs, to dragonet hatchlings. "The green," he says,
elbowing softly and sighs as she Impresses to A'zara. "Good match."
On the sands, Kirana briefly nods at Maelyan. "Get ready to
move," she mumurs. "Remember what they said about getting out o'
their way."
On the sands, Samron gets a spray of sand on him as a dragonet
rushes by and has to stop holding the other candidates' hands to brush it off.
He still looks very excited though and voices his approval of the energetic
looking brown.
On the sands, Kalina's right foot is lifted, once she has placed
her left foot back down upon the sands, her fingers wringing together, sweaty
palms met in front of her.
On the sands, Another Dimension Egg barely moves as a steady
tap-tap-tap sounds from within. Almost like knocking for a hidden door -- there
couldn't be one of those there, but one never knows -- the tapping surely but
steadily increases in intensity, tentative at first and then more sure. Or more
impatient.
Lillian shakes her head, eyes darting to and fro as the eggs
continue to rock. "I haven't seen one yet.
On the sands, Jel crosses his arms, and certainly not for the
cold. But then he forces his arms to his sides. Perhaps, again, he is conscious
of perception. Yes, he's calm. Yes, believe it. Please?
On the sands, Ysabel starts shifting from foot to foot. The heat
is making itself known, but the dragons are far more interesting. "Why
won't the bronze move? The brown is fast enough...did you see that green?"
She keeps up a steady commentary on events as she spots them.
Cyameth emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before he flies down to land gently on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Cyameth has arrived.
J'nas can't seem to keep up with the eggs. "Is it me, or are
they hatching faster than Jinieth's clutch did?"
Kaelyn crosses her arm over her chest and looks at the eggs and
frowns a little. "Hmmm...wonder where all the blues are?"
On the sands, Maelyan raises her head and glances over at Kirana.
"How can I move if it feels like my feet /won't/ move, even if I
tried?" Maelyan leans forward a bit to look at Ysabel, grinning to
herself. "Maybe he's just lazy, Ysa." Aren't all bronzes like that?
On the sands, Ryse begins to look a little tense as more dragonets
emerge from their eggs. He is prepared to move at a moment's notice - out of
the way of their claws. But for now he shifts rhythmically from one foot to the
other.
On the sands, Carianna lets her gaze travel over the hide of the
brown and she smiles. "He'll be a strong one." But her attention
moves back to the still sitting bronze. "You don't think he is too weak
from hunger to move do you? I'd hate to hear that one of the hatchlings is
sick."
Yashira glances over as Cyameth arrives, murmuring, "I wonder
if U'yn will be able to come?"
Kassima glances towards Jacera at the confirmation, offering a
grin. "I recall her from when she Stood at Telgar," she explains,
"as I daresay we all do--" There she indicates the others nearby from
Telgar. "But I haven't seen her since our last lot graduated. Good t'see
she's getting another chance. Wait, wait, did someone just mention Redus and
Carianna? I remember them; met 'em at Fort."
On the sands, A loud bang is heard from near the center of the
sands. In the spot where the Canine's Clue Egg was sitting, there is now a
wobbly blue dragonet, shards of egg surrounding him on all sides. He clumsily
begins to run towards a grouping of boys, passing them as they jump out of the
way. The blue dragonet screeches to a halt, and spins around, catching the eyes
of a young Southern Boll lad. The boy finds that he doesn't have the capacity
for words, but his new lifemate calms him until he is aware of the assistant
standing nearby. The new dragonet follows closely, as the assistant escorts
them over to the food.
Sh'yar winks at Kaelyn, "Saving the best for last?"
Cyameth warbles a greeting as he wings in and lands, lifting his
head to peer toward the Sands even as he crouches to let his rider down.
Terrilia waves as she unbuckles her straps and calls, "Igen's
Duties!"
Jacera slips an arm around Kaelyn's waist and grins at her.
"That could be."
Terrilia slides down from Cyameth's neck to the ground. Cyameth
croons contentedly and gently noses his lifemate as he sees she is safely down.
Terrilia has arrived.
Ember's face brightens with a broad smile, "Mayhaps
everything was moving in slow motion for you."
Tirien slides down to the ground as Cyameth turns his head to
watch him and extends his foreleg to make it easy for him to slide down to the
ground.
Tirien has arrived.
Y'il ah. "There's one." He grins. "It's good they
all know what they want. Less chance for injury."
Sh'yar laughs and points, "There's one for you Kae!"
Lillian claps the lastest hatchling and his newly found lifemate.
"I don't know, that bronze doesn't seem to be hurrying at all. Are there
often injuries at the hatchings?"
On the sands, Suave Weyr-Smart Brown Is efficient and thorough as
he looks over first one candidate and then the next. After a close look at one
of the brown eyed lads he pivots quickly on his heel and rushes over to where
the lethargic bronze is and rumbles a thoroughly in something that looks for
all the world like a kind of report. The dapper brown then takes a step back
and stares intently at his older brother as if this alone will bring him into
action.
On the sands, Redus nods at the assessment of the brown then,
having noticed the Dimensional egg is somewhat active, he smiles. "And I
think that on'es shell is too thick." he remarks before scanning the sand
again.
On Chaedanth, "Hmph," Is Kandri's comment at the recent
blue impression. However despite her serious expression and the arms crossed
over her chest she does lean forward for a better look.
Kaelyn smiles finally. "Good. Maybe they are just being
patient
On the sands, Geridon shakes his head, turning to look closely at
the bronze. "He's methodical," he says softly. "Wants to be sure
he's not making any mistakes." He glances down at Kirana, grinning.
Kaelyn looks over at Terrilia and waves. "Reaches duties to
you"
On the sands, Cierra chuckles at the brown's actions. "Was he
looking over us for himself, or for that bronze? Wonder when he'll make his own
decision of which of us to take for himself."
Nepenth warbles happily to Cyameth.
On the sands, Merwen jumps and then tries to be still as a brown
dragon looks her over. She wipes her hands over her robe as they seem to sweat
thoroughly.
On the sands, Kaneda does not care as long as they stop rushing
towards the Candidates in such a hurried manner. "Like a herdbeast on a
rampage .. hope no one gets injured," he mutters, standing on the hem of
his robes as he weaves back and forth to avoid the heat of the sands.
On the sands, Kirana nods to Geridon. "Or maybe the one he's
lookni' for ain't here."
Maylia pauses only a moment before acknowledging, "Cierra,
oh, do I remember that one," in a bland tone. "Lost track of her
after that hatching."
Terrilia helps Tirien down, settling him on her hip for the
moment, and, with a quick look around, begins weaving her way forward for a
better look. She waves toward Kassima and smiles at Kaelyn as she gets closer.
"Hello! Did we miss much? I was delayed a bit...Kaelyn, right?" She
finds a place to sit and settles Tirien on her lap, lifting her chin to look
down at the Sands and grinning.
Verenth peers down at the sands worriedly. Where are the blues? So
few blues!
Kaelyn nods and smiles once more. "That's right. Cyameth took
a swim in the lake with Nepenth one day"
On the sands, Ysabel tugs at her robe with her free hand.
"Come on." she murmurs, squinting at the dragons. "Hurry up
already. Do /something/." She notices she's worrying her robe and yanks
her hand away, scowling at the damp spot her sweatly palm left.
On the sands, Temperamental Cynical Bronze turns and looks at the
slick looking brown, listening to his warbling and then giving in response a
bellowing bugle. Then he looks away, back towards the rest of the unhatched
eggs. Then he gives one more little rumble almost as an afterthought, without
looking back.
Cyameth croons warmly back to Nepenth and the other dragons as he
settles in, watching with quickly whirling eyes.
Kaelyn looks at Tirien. "So is this one of your
children?"
Kaelyn looks back at Terrilia
Kassima spies that wave, and returns it with a hearty wave of her
charcoal-holding hand: "G'day, Terrilia; duties t'Igen and all that!"
After a quick pull from the wineskin, she finally offers it back to Maylia.
"Fair vintage you brought, Wingmate mine, and m'compliments... I rather
thought you'd remember."
On the sands, Kalina wipes her hands upon the already sweat-stained
surface of her robe, then letting them fall by her sides as she takes a step to
the right, and then another to the left. She doesn't manage to speak-- she's
busy eyeing the hatchlings, as she can get them within her gaze, and then the
eggs, hopeful - doubtful.
Tirien is grinning, but he seems subdued by the crowd, uncertain.
He smiles shyly at Kaelyn and takes his fingers out of his mouth long enough to
wiggle them at the new person. "Hi."
On the sands, Carianna turns to Cierra and nods then chuckles
softly so as not to upset the hatchlings. "You may be right." She
comments then turns back to watch the interaction of hatchlings as each foot is
given a vigorous shaking. "Doesn't the sand burn you Red?"
On the sands, Jel faces a stunning mix of shells, candidates, and
dragonets. And he finds himself alone. But it's one thing to be alone and
another thing to be lonely. And here he is ... alone -and- lonely? And perhaps
he recalls G'non's advice? So he glances at Geridon, and at Kirana, and at Maelyan.
No, he won't go there. Carianna? The petite baker? Or the dark girl. The one so
like him? Then a dragonet snags his attention. But both are in agreement.
Neither wants the other.
Lillian looks around at the remaining candidates before asking Y'il.
"M'llon said his daughter was on the sands today. Do you know which one
she is Y'il?"
On the sands, A crack appears on The Revered Relic Egg, and slowly
additional cracks appears on it's surface. A large piece finally detaches from
the egg and a green hatchling daintly steps out of it. She seems about to move
away from her egg when she looks at herself and the egg goo still clinging to
her wings. She shakes one wing and then the other, getting as much of it off as
possible before turning her attention to the shards from her egg. One wing
brushes the pieces into a neat little pile, and when she's finally satisfied
she and her last home look their best she heads towards some white things she
sees in the distance. She walks carefully, making sure to accumulate as little
sand on her feet as possible, and steers clear of any messy obstructions along
the way. When she finally comes to the candidates she looks at each one in
turn, stopping half way through to brush off an egg shard she missed from her side.
She's about to move on when she notices someone particularly interesting, and
meticulously makes her way to a young girl whose first reaction is to embrace
her lifemate and second is to straighten her robe. Quite a pair these two will
make, the young girl being as careful as her lifemate as they leave the sands
together.
On the sands, Geridon blinks, looking at the bronze. "Now
what was all *that* about?" He shifts his feet in the sands, as they
rapidly have rapidly thawed from the sleet and snow outside.
Y'il shakes his head. "No. It's news to me that M'llon even
had children. I've certainly never seen them at the weyr."
On the sands, It's elementary you see, that where the Egg of
Another Dimension was there is now a scarlet brown dragon to see.
On the sands, A Study in Scarlet Brown
Wraithlike and hungered, this newly hatched specimen of dragonhood
joins the world with a haunting presence that could draw the attention of the
most casual observer regardless of his hide's hue. Like his sire he is reddish
with a bronze touch and like his dam, this hue is on the shadowed end of the
spectrum wrapping his hide in a darkly shadowed scarlet wine that is without
variation from the tip of his tail to the majestic crown of his headknobs. He
is so excessively lean that he seems to be considered both taller and longer
than his kindred though if he were to stand shoulder to shoulder with the
others in his clutch he would not be considered large. Glowing now with the red
taint of ravenous appetite his eyes are sharp and piercing though later they
will be shown to also possess a look of thoughtful torpor when the calm of
physical satisfaction is upon him. His thin, hawk-like muzzle gives his whole
expression an air of alertness and decision. This dragonet's head too, has a
prominence and squareness that seems to mark him with determination.
Terrilia nods proudly and tousles Tirien's hair. "Yes, this
is Tirien, my youngest. See the eggs, sweetie? Oo, and the hatchlings?"
She points down at the brown and bronze, then glances quickly over to flash a
grin at Kassima. "Hey, Kassima. How's the betting going?"
Sh'yar blinks in awe, "Wow what a stunning color for a
brown."
On Chaedanth, "M'llon?" The name reaches Kandri and she
looks down and away from the sands. "M'llon is here?" And she begins
to scan the ledges with a little more interest than what is occuring on the
sands.
On the sands, Jhenni does her best to stand there and look
impressible: head up, chin out, scrawny shoulders thrown back, bare feet
slightly apart for both balance and quick-escape if a dragonet heads at her too
quickly. Nevermind she looks like a dark stick-insect inside a white
turber-sack, despite all Ysabel's efforts to make her look presentable.
"There he goes -- and look, another green. And oh look at that ruddy
brown! How lovely."
On the sands, Maelyan begins shifting from foot to foot - a bit
late, rather, since she's already complaining about hot feet - and jumps promptly.
"We'd better get ready to start jumping right now, Kira. They're coming
really fast." Thus, Maelyan takes to sending fleeting glances at one
dragonet, then another, before shaking her head. "I can't see them
all."
On the sands, Kirana looks at GEridon quickly with a puzzled
expression. "What was what all about?" THen she notices the brown.
"Oh. Look at that one!"
On the sands, Redus' eyes fall on the Cynical one for a moment,
catching the lack of interest; something makes him chuckle until he hears a
question and he replies with a shrug. "Pain is all in one's head." he
says with a smirk then he ohs at the sight of a new brown.
Mallea turns her head back to look around for the person who said
her Dad's name. She thinks it was Kandri who said it now and she moves over to
Chaedanth, "Bromith told Zsofyth that he couldn't possible leave Qirith
right now, is she glowing do you know?"
Kaelyn smiles warmly at the little. "Hi there."
On the sands, Makai says "That must be the most unique brown
in the weyr, I've never seen another like him."
On the sands, Geridon shakes his head unknowingly. "Don't ask
me.." he follows her gaze and grins. "What a beauty," he says,
before looking at the other dragons on the sands. "Watch it now, lots of
them walkinga round now."
On the sands, Kaneda points to the scarlet brown, nudging Jhenni.
"That one looks all bloody!" he coos excitedly, apparently enjoying
the simile that this dragonet carries in his hide. "Thats .. so sharding
amazing!" The magic of a hatching at least, keeps this Hold lad in thrall
... until the dragonets start running towards him again.
On the sands, Suave Weyr-Smart Brown flexes his wings and looks at
the bronze a moment before he shrugs and moves towards the crowd. He starts to
gently herd a group of candidates towards where the lazy bronze awaits by using
his wings and wedge shaped head. In the group he tries to nap Cierra, Ryse,
Samron, and Barzerk. Will they follow?
On the sands, Ysabel giggles at the green and her new lifemate,
then frowns as another brown hatches. "I hope this one does more than the
bronze and other brown. He's...interesting, isn't he?"
On the sands, Carianna lifts an eyebrow as she blinks at Redus'
words. "What?" She questions then turns to look over the new brown.
Her eyes widen with the sight that leaves her speechless.
J'nas whistles softly as another brown emerges from it's egg.
"I like the ratio so far."
Kassima admits, pulling an exaggerated grimace, "Isn't,
really, Terrilia. More's the pity. None of m'friends here want t'spend marks,
for some reason... but I won't complain too much, since they'd have won as it
happened. I still have hopes that some of m'advance bets will profit out, mind
you! Have you any marks laid tonight?"
On the sands, The Steward's Image Egg begins to shudder in a more
pronounced manner. Sand begins to loosen from its own mound and fall away and
slowly, ever so slowly, it begins to creep down on its side. The egg stills for
a moment and then there are three resounding *Tap* *tap* *tap* from within.
Tirien giggles at Kaelyn. "I Tiwien," he says,
half-muffled by the fingers he returns to his mouth. And removes again, to
point at the new brown. "Ooo! Bwown!"
Yashira nods toward the sands, commenting idly, "That brown
looks like one of Decarath's ilk. Clever muzzle."
On the sands, Jhenni shuffles a few spaces away from the wriggling
egg.
On the sands, Cierra looks from the new brown to the bronze and
back again. "Well, I don't think they could be any different than they
are, in looks at least." She's distracted by the brown trying to herd her,
and she decides it's best not to make him mad and goes along with it. Even if
it's just to make sure there's space between her and his claws.
On the sands, Ryse wipes his hands on his robes. The heat of the
sands is beginning to get to him. His steady movement continues. His eyes
follow the Brown dragon. He grins.
Maylia reaches for the wine skin, giving Kassi a teasing jibe,
"Leave any of it for me, Wingleader mine? Good vintage indeed. Another of
my sister's finds down South. Shells, what *is* that dragon down there
doing?" She asks, looking truely baffled. To Terrilia, she pleads,
"Wager with her over something? Anything? A hatching just isn't a hatching
for Kassi, I'd think, unless she won a handful or two of other people's
marks."
On Chaedanth, "Glowing? No. No I didn't know the queen of
Ista was glowing," Kandri says with a shake of her head as she turns her
attention to Mallea. "Would explain why he isn't here and missing this
though," And her gaze travels back to the sands as she jerks her chin in
the direction of all the action.
On the sands, Kalina takes a few deep breathes, as if trying out
controlled breathing, feet lifting one after the other as she attempts to keep
them somewhat cool. Her eyes - nervous, and perhaps even slightly teary - seek
around the sands, as if searching for one thing that she can concentrate on to
the exclusion of all else.
On the sands, Jel finds himself shoved to one side, as the
candidate to his left meets his lifemate. He stares at them, showing no envy.
And then he grimaces. Like a stilt-legged river avian, he perches on one foot,
so as to pick bits of shell from the sole of the other.
On the sands, A Study in Scarlet Brown steps languidly from his
shards, giving them a calculated glance before sweeping his gaze across the
assemblage. An almost leisured swipe of his tailtip rids him of the last of the
egg-bits, and he widens his wings a moment, reddish shadows glistening with
moisture. Slowly those delicate wings fold themselves about him almost like a
cloak, and the brown hatchling turns his gaze slowly, educatedly toward the
candidates. Well, well, well. What have we here?
On the sands, Samron finds himself being hounded by a brown dragon
and quickly shuffles his feet to move over there he's to be placed. He blinks
at the bronze dragon curiously, starting to wonder if he's able to move himself
around at all.
On the sands, Redus starts to laugh as he's not included in the
action of the herder dragon; he just points with his free hand then turns to
Cari. "Well, it's not like I'm cut." he says as he turns back to the
spectacle.
Ember grins a little craning out to follow the path of the latest
brown across the Sands, the humour giving a lilt to her voice. "That I
never understood, J'nas. Should you not be wishing for a great many greens? Or
would that only apply to a hatching at Fort?"
Lillian looks over at Mallea, "Oh yes, you could say she was
glowing. For the sake of our kitchen staff's sanity we all hope she will rise
soon." That's all the explanation she gives, for her attention is soon
drawn back to the sceen below. "Would you just look at that Brown?"
Kaelyn chuckles softly at Tirien. "Nice to meet you. I'm
Kaelyn." She turns and points at Nepenth. "And that is Nepenth"
On the sands, Ysabel watches the Steward's egg with wide eyes and
takes a few steps back, clutching at Jhenni's hand. "I really don't like
that egg, and it's moving..." She so busy staring at it she misses the
herding of the other candidates towards the bronze.
On the sands, Barzerk smirks to his fellow candidates.
"Destiny awaits!" he calls. Tropping obediently along with the brown,
he wanders.
Terrilia chuckles at Maylia and shakes her head at Kassima.
"No, I'm afraid not--I don't know any of the Candidates that well. Who all
is down there, anyway? Maybe if I know any of them..." She peers back down
at the Sands, nodding appreciatively to Tirien. "Oh, he's a nice one..."
On the sands, Divya murmurs to the AWLMs, "The bronze and
brown are certainly taking their own sweet time to decide who they'll choose.
Wonder if they're setting a record?"
J'nas nods solemnly. "More green at Fort would be better than
greens anywhere else. Then Hanreth doesn't have to search the continent for a
flight."
On the sands, Kaneda grins at Ysabel, hooking his hands into
claws. "Its coming to geeet you!" he teases the other Candidate lass,
wriggling his fingers menacingly like a spinner, gesturing to the Steward's
Image Egg.
"I'd bet on Geridon," Yashira says, "But I can't
deprive Doomdark of cookie marks."
Mallea nods to Lillian, "I know it would have to be pretty
important for Dad to miss this. This is the first time he has missed a hatching
that Cierra has stood at."
On the sands, Geridon elbows Kirana again, as the brown starts
rounding up candidates. "Look," he says, jerking his head toward
them. Barzerk's comment makes him roll his eyes in exasperation.
On the sands, Merwen rubs her sleeve at her forehead and then
drops her arms and steps back and forth on the sands. Her eyes stray towards
the egg that reminds her of the Steward and she shivers despite the heat.
On the sands, Carianna seems to jump at the sound coming from The
Steward's Image Egg. "I swear I'll scream if Vorlin pops out of
there." A shiver runs down her spine at the mere thought then she ohs and
nods to Redus. "For a moment there I thought you were mocking my
words."
On the sands, G'non nods. "Just as long as the record set
doesn't have to do with number of injured Candidates," he murmurs.
Jacera blinks back to reality and looks over at Mallea. "What
about your father?"
On the sands, Maelyan gawks as the brown attempts to herd /her/
partner towards the bronze. Though, she does relinquish her hold on Ryse,
gesturing towards the dragon. Ysabel is rewarded with a grin and a head shake.
"Looks like it's going to hatch, Ysa."
On the sands, The Steward's Image Egg suddenly rocks back and
forth violently before it begins to roll. It only rolls a short way however as
the sand prevents the motion. Coming to pause beside the remnants of anothers
shell it stills for only a brief moment before there is a resounding *crack*
and a star-shaped fissure begins to form.
On the sands, Amilin chuckles and nods to Divya, "That they
are. I've never seen a hatchling herd candidates like tat before.."
On the sands, Temperamental Cynical Bronze turns his head back as
the brown approaches with the small array of candidates moving closer. He
actually starts to pay attention to those that have come forward. His draconic
lips purse a moment like he's lost deep in thought as he looks over them one at
a time again. Then he gives a triumphant bugle and rouses himself to move
forward.
Mallea repeats for Jacera, "Bromith told Zsofyth that he
can't leave Ista right now, just in case you know.. for Qirith I think."
Tirien grins at Kaelyn and oos at Nepenth, nodding.
"Boo." He nods approvingly--just like his mama's.
Ember drawls. Softly. "So that is where the two of you
disappear to for hours on end." Her eyes flick away from the Sands for
just a moment to laugh at J'nas.
On the sands, Jhenni rubs at her red nose with her free hand and
holds tight to Ysabel with the other. Kaneda gets a narrow green-eyed look and
then attention is back on the egg again -- that purplish one -- and then all
the others still behind it. Then back, watching the browns and bronze.
"Oh, look, he's going to impress!" And so he does. "Ryse! Oh
Ryse! He got you!"
Lillian blinks and then smiles brightly, "Dad? So you are
M'llon's daughter? Yes,he was very upset that he couldn't make it. Bromith
would hear nothing of his leaving though, not even to ride with Y'il. So we told
him we'd cheer her on for him. Although..I don't know why the Brown is herding
her toward the Bronze."
Jacera giggles softly at Mallea and grins at her. "He can't
blame me this time if anything happens. I'm not anywhere near Ista today, and
I'll be staying far away."
Kassima ticks names off on her fingertips. "Geridon and
Cierra, I know; I heard Redus and Carianna, somewhere... nay anyone else that I
personally know. Oh, but that bronze has found someone, looks like."
On the sands, Ryse falls to his knees and wraps his arms around
the dragonet's neck. He calls out, "His name is Rhyionth and he is
famished!"
On the sands, Geridon comments, "The brown is so busy looking
after the bronze's interest, I wonder who he's gonna impress to himself?"
On the sands, Redus feels Cari's shiver and nods.
"Ooo..that'd be quite a scare." Then he raises a brow, "Mocking.
Absurd." The bronze is moving now? He has to watch...with one eye anyway,
the other eye follows when Ryse's name is called.
On Chaedanth, "Hmph," Kandri gives voice to the wordless
statement again as she returns to watching the sands quietly. At least for the
moment.
Sh'yar cheers, "I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!"
Abbe jumps. "Thats ten marks I'm owed now!"
On the sands, Ysabel glares at Kaneda, her nerves getting the
better of her. "Not funny!" She snaps, then jumps again as the
Stewards egg rolls towards her some more. Ryse's cry draws her attention now
and she starts cheering. "Ryse! Ryse and...whatever his name is!"
On the sands, Cierra blinks at the impression, it happened so fast
considering the long process to get to this point. She smiles at Ryse.
"Congratulations!"
J'nas laughs. "Thank Faranth he /isn't/ chasing every day.
I'd be a dead man walking with that many flights."
Jacera grins broadly as she hears Ryse's exclamation. "Oh, he
really pulled it off..."
On the sands, Makai says "Yay! Congradulations Ryse!"
On the sands, Kalina catches Ryse's Impression by chance - she
smiles, hesitantly, across the sands, turning her attention rather rapidly back
to the other hatchlings, and eggs; some are closer to her, and therefore easier
to keep track of.
Mallea smiles at Lillian and then blinks, "She is being
herded to a bronze?" She looks back down at the sands, "Oh I hope
Cierra is doing okay."
On the sands, Maelyan now moves herself closer to Kirana as her
partner is nabbed. "Ryse! Congratulations!" Now, though, she has an
empty hand. "Rhyionth and Ryse! Congratulations!" She can't help but
look esctatic for her close friend, and she takes to waving her hand about
excitedly above her head.
On the sands, Divya steps forward and says, "Congratulations,
young man. Let's get you and Rhyionth to some food, shall we?"
Terrilia's attention is momentarily drawn to the bronze and his
new lifemate, and she smiles brightly. "Ryse is his name? Don't know him
myself..." She blinks at Kassima. "Carianna's down there? I've met
her a time or two."
On the sands, Kirana smiles to Ryse. "Good on ya, Ryse!"
On the sands, Jel sees Ryse with his new partner. At first this
Impression doesn't quite register. And Jel's brow puckers. And then he laughs,
shaking his head. Soon he's just smiling. He holds that smile for a while.
Kaelyn claps loudly for Ryse. "Good match"
Lillian cheers loudly as the Bronze chooses one of the young men
she knows, "Oh well done Ryse!"
On the sands, Geridon grins as one of his first friends at the
Weyr Impresses. "I can't believe it.. it sure took long enough," he laughs,
and turns his head to see what the two browns, then the eggs are doing.
On the sands, While watching a pair of lifemates walk from the
sands, Trewinia happened to miss the hatching of the Abandoned Dock at Night
Egg and the resultant blue dragonet that came out of it. With a warble, the
dragonet heads right towards her. Hearing the dragonet's cry for attention, she
turns quickly, to make sure she is not in danger. The dragonet croons lightly,
and Trewinia leans in, "Oh, I know you'd never hurt me," as she hugs
his neck. "Yeah, we should go get you some food," she says, as they
walk in the direction she watched earlier pairs go.
On the sands, Ryse nods and stands up. "He's really
hungry."
On the sands, Kirana grins to Maelyan. "I got a free side
now, yer wanter stick near me an' Geridon?"
On the sands, Suave Weyr-Smart Brown seems to move with a pleased
jaunt, his work done he decides that now is the time for looking out for number
one. He goes back to the one candidate that stole his heart the first time he
laid eyes on her. He just knows that her sparkling strawberry blonde locks will
look great in combination with his own natural good looks.
On the sands, Divya leads the way back to the passage, walking
slowly to try and match Rhyionth's pace.
On the sands, Carianna turns and smiles over at Ryse. "Way to
go." She cheers before turning back to keep a close eye on the remaining
hatchlings. "Don't forget their very sharp claws." She reminds
herself out loud as feet continue to move beneigth her.
Kassima makes another scribble on her hide, muttering,
"Rhyionth--like that name--and Ryse... wonder what honorific he'll end up
with. R'ys? That's what I heard, Terrilia; met her once at Fort m'self, while
she was Standing there. She seemed a good sort."
On the sands, A Study in Scarlet Brown stalks determinedly toward
the row of white-robed candidates -- no lazing about for this sharp-eyed
dragon, for his quarry is all that matters to him now. Things to do, time's a
wasting. But which quarry? These white-robed people span to either side of him.
So many. An interesting dilemma. As though sorting his thoughts, the brown sits
before a group of candidates, taking a moment to survey the group as a whole.
Nobody misses that piercing gaze. There are several long minutes of silence as
the brown gazes from left to right, completely methodical. Then a loud bugle,
and he makes for the nearest group of candidates, to further inspect them on a
more face-to-face level. His wings trail behind him as he goes, creating deep
furrows in the sand. It makes no nevermind to him.
On the sands, The Steward's Image Egg begins to crack more and in
fact the noise doesn't end at this point. A claw protrudes for a moment and
then retracts before the egg really begins to shake and shimmy. Almost. There.
Almost. There...THERE!
On the sands, A beautiful young green dragon emerges from the
remnants of the Steward's Image Egg.
On the sands, Glamorous Impassioned Green
This little dragonet is the very picture of beauty. Every line of
her body perfectly proportioned to the next. If a Harper were to sing of a
physically perfect green dragonet, this would be that song come to life. She
moves in an almost unreal fashion, her shimmering green hide gleaming. Her neck
and tail are long and graceful and she seems very much in control of herself,
or at least as much as a dragonet can ever be. Her smooth hide is highlighted
by a soft golden hue running down the ridges of her back and the tips of her
wingsails pale to a frosty white at the very edges. As she looks at the world
around her, she seems to have a tendency to tilt her wedge-shaped head upward,
almost as if looking down her nose at everyone and everything that doesn't rise
to her lofty standards.
On the sands, Maelyan extends her hand towards Kirana, grinning.
"Of course I want to stick near you guys. I wouldn't want to be out here
by myself, you know." She then turns her eyes towards the browns and the
other hatchlings. "Why can't they all slow down?" There's a lapse in
Maelyan's speech before she talks again, breathless. "I can't believe he
Impressed. And a bronze, too! He deserved him."
Terrilia nods to Kassima, pursing her lips as she looks down at
the Sands. "I'd bet...oh, a half-mark on Carianna. If you want." She
looks over and grins, missing the green's hatching.
On the sands, Cierra chuckles as she looks around and realizes she
was the only girl brought before the bronze. She's about to return to Carianna's
side when she finds out just why she was part of the group. She is surprised at
the impression more than anything else at first. Everyone has hope, but
impression has shocked her into silence. She kneels in front of the brown and
embraces him. Finally finding her voice, she calls out her lifemate's name.
"Zeventh, what a wonderful name! Yes, forever!"
Yashira grins a little - "Hey, did Cierra just Impress that
brown?" She chuckles a bit, nodding. "Good for her. I'll have to send
along my congratulations."
On the sands, Jel needs support, and he looks for it in an
unlikely someone. She happens to be close. And it's worth a try. "Hey,
Jhenni. This is something."
On the sands, Makai looks around anxiously. "Where'd that
Brown get to?" he asks with a small frown of curiosity. He smiles as he
sees Cierra Impress. "Congratulations!!"
On the sands, Kirana is again not sure where to look, as she keeps
a wary eye on browns and blues and greens. But she does nod. "He sure
did." Then she smiles as Cierra Impresses. "Good on ya!"
On the sands, G'non smiles broadly as he approaches Cierra and
Zeventh. "Congratulations," he says to the girl. "Let's get the
two of you back to where there's some food, shall we?"
Ember applauds for the impression and just continues grinning,
"Well you have been looking a mite peaked."
Mallea starts to cheer, 'Oh Cierra!!"
Lillian leans forward, rather precariously over Aquileth's
foreleg. "Has that Brown finally decided?" She looks quickly between
Y'il and Mallea before they dart back to the sands below. "Is that Cierra
he's going for?"
Sh'yar says "Jace! Look!"
On the sands, Ysabel lets out a short half-scream as the Stewards
egg cracks, then sighs in relief. "A green. A lovely green." Who
knows what she was expecting. And then Cierra Impresses. "Cierra! Good for
you!"
Jacera's eyes widen in surprise as she hears Cierra's
proclamation. "Oh, Cierra did it!!"
Kassima shakes her head emphatically. "Oh, nay, Terrilia,
I'll nay bet *against*--what, Cierra?" The greenrider does a quick
doubletake. "On brown? Welladay, good show! Zeventh, Lysseth says. I like
that, too. And look, a bonny green!"
Y'il grins at all the Impressions. "Love these days," he
sighs.
On the sands, Jhenni is so excited for Ryse and it is an effort to
drag her attention away from the newly mated pair in time to see one of the
little browns choose his lifemate. "Oh and look -- is that Cierra there?
It is, it is Cierra! What an excellent match." Jhen watches them for a moment
too, sharing this amazing thing that is Impression. And then there's Jel whom
she looks to with green eyes ever so wide. "Isn't it amazing?"
On the sands, Redus watches Ryse and his new lifemate leave. He
remarks quietly, "Worth it for him after such a long pause." Then
right next to him he realizes Cierra is discovered. "Yes!" he says
her way. "Congratulations."
Tirien tugs on his mother's sleeve, pointing. "'Ook--'ook,
Ma..." He's pointing everywhere, really, but encompassing both the brown
who just found his lifemate and the green that just hatched. And everything
else.
On the sands, Makai says "There're so many of them!"
J'nas squints at the sands as he tries to make out who Impressed
the brown. His unspoken is answered by Mallea's cheer. He turns to regard Ember
with a mischevious twinkle in his eye, "Jealous?"
Jacera leans over and hugs Kaelyn tightly. "She got such a
beautiful Brown..."
Kaelyn leans over and kisses Jace. "Congrats dear. Another
one in the family"
Josilina grins broadly as she catches on to Cierra's Impression,
"Oh! Cierra! How great! On a nice brown too."
On the sands, Kalina allows herself a smile, towards Cierra as the
girl Impresses, though she's truthfully more engaged in peering at the newest
green, feet doing their dance upon the sands beneath her.
On the sands, Cierra smiles at G'non, still a little shocked. She
nods and heads towards the food with her lifemate.
On the sands, Geridon watches the purple egg split, revealing a
green dragon. Jerking Kirana's hand, he points at the newly hatched dragonet,
"Look!" As Cierra Impresses, he grins, lookign at Kirana. "She
was so sure she would be left standing... I'm so happy for her."
On the sands, Who stole the Cookie? Egg rocks and shudders.
Lillian claps loudly, "M'llon will be so pleased. A shame he
could not be here to see it personally, but he /will/ be pleased. And such a
fine brown at that!"
On the sands, Kirana smiles. "Me too."
Roltan has arrived.
On the sands, Glamorous Impassioned Green falls slightly as the
egg shell gives way to her front claws. Tumbling out of the egg she falls into
the sand and scattering of egg shells with a surprised, 'REeeeeeiiieee!' But
she is only down for a moment and lifts her head almost immediately and begins
to shake it about. To her feet in a moment and she pulls her tail from the
remnant of her shell, giving it a little flick even as she tosses her head in
the opposite direction. And then she pauses, tail and head held high with her drooping
wings just barely raised. Over yonder candidates stand in white robes and she
stares at them. 'RrrrooooORrrreeee?' She croons in what sounds vaguely like
puzzlement or perhaps curiousity.
On the sands, "Cierra!" Maelyan's squeal might be short,
but it sure does carry, and Maelyan does a little jig in place.
"Congratulations!" The green's arrival is not yet noted until Ysabel
remarks upon her, drawing Mae's eyes to the hatchling. "Amazing. She /is/
lovely." Then, she cranes her head about abruptly, peering at Ysa.
"How're those strips working?"
On the sands, Jel says, "It is! It's ... very amazing."
And the sailor glances down at a would-be friend. "I'm happy for
Ryse," he singsongs.
On the sands, A small green, oddly speckled with blue dapples
across flanks and nose, kicks free of her egg, the Brewing Tempest Egg. She
rolls to her feet, wet with yolk, and looks around. One green foot is poised to
step forward, then her tail intervenes, sending her tumbling. She ends at the
feet of a Harper apprentice lad. Impression is made as green looks up at boy,
and boy down at green!
Roltan slides off Aerth, "Thank you Aerth." He grins,
"Sweet blue."
Terrilia chuckles and shrugs to Kassima and Maylia as she turns to
look at the Sands again. "Well, I tried...Who was that that the brown
Impressed to?" She smiles curiously at Kaelyn and Jacera, near her.
Kaelyn nods proudly at Cierra. "And a brown. Very strong just
like her. She deserved it with all the growing up she's done'
On the sands, Carianna turns to her foster sister and beams
happily. "Oh Cierra, I can't believe it!" She calls out to the new
weyrling and brown dragon. Of course the jumping up and down she does, doesn't
help her feet any from the burning sand that now covers them. "Ouch."
Kaelyn looks over at Terrilia while holding Jace's hand. She
speaks to the woman, "That was Jace's daughter Cierra that just
impressed."
Ember suddenly realizes she never did release his wrist, and
quickly folds both hands behind her back. She tries to look serious, too, but
the expression just doesn't take. "Sorry...jealous of looking so near to
one afflicted with the firehead? Why, no."
On the sands, Ysabel's eyes are on the green, and a faint smile
crosses her lips at the noises the young one makes. "She's lovely and
funny. Poor thing must be just as baffled as I feel." She turns to blink
at Maelyan. "Oh, well enough I suppose. They were a great idea." she
adds with a smile. "But my feet are still hot."
On the sands, Divya is about to escort G'quan and the green to the
back room when another assistant weyrlingmaster beats her to it. So she resumes
her position near Amilin and watches the shrinking group of Candidates.
On the sands, Merwen plucks at her sleeves nervously as the
hatching goes on and the heat seems to build. As she sees a green hatch nearby
she swallows and steps a little forward to better keep track of it's path.
On the sands, Jhenni, would-be enemy as well, will settle for
friend, today. "And Cierra. And A'zara. And E'dron. And..." Jhenni
rattles off names as they come to her, surprised to know so many of the other
Candidates. She watches the dragonets play their particular brand of
hide-and-seek, "I'd like to see more blue. But", and she watches Izzy
for a moment, "But the little greens are incredible too."
On the sands, A Study in Scarlet Brown has almost a severe look
about him, his manner is so intense. Those wings trail behind him, shifting in
the light from bronze-brown, to a more haunted, dark scarlet-brown. Everything
about him seems to shift, in fact... everything except his mood and his focus,
that is. As that piercing gaze falls on a group of male candidates, he eyes
them suspiciously before nosing curiously at their robes. Huff! Nothing of
interest there. You are free to go. The dragonet stalks off, kicking up sand
with clumsy hatchling steps as he continues down the line.
Kaelyn tries to get her mates attention for the moment.
"Jace, this is Terrilia from Igen Weyr. I met her when her dragon wanted to
swim in our lake"
On the sands, Kirana adroitly steps out of the way of a charging
dragonet, hardly even able to tell it's color. "Whew."
Roltan walks over slowly from where Aerth took off and opens his
arms, "Ahhh, my old friends! Jacera!"
On the sands, Who stole the Cookie? Eggjumps up and down, as
though someone or some dragon important is trying to get out.
J'nas snorts good naturedly as he seeks out the Fortian faces on
the sands. "What do you think of Jhenni's chances, Em?"
Kassima acknowledges, "You did, you did, Terrilia, and I
appreciate it; you've more courage than *some*." But that's spoken in a
clearly teasing way, and she slants an amused look towards May and Yash as she
says it. "Mmm," Kassi mmms, appreciatively, as the other green
Impresses to her boy. "A fair match. Though all green matches are,
naturally."
On the sands, Geridon stiffens as the brown dragon moves down the
line, inspecting some of the guys. "Look.. boy he's picky."
Jacera looks up at Terrilia and smiles at her. "I think we've
met before... Haven't we? If not, a pleasure to meet you." She looks up as
she hears Roltan's voice calling her name and grins. "Well, well. Look who
the snows have blown in."
Kaelyn looks up at Roltan and smiles. "Hey there Roltan"
On the sands, A confident young man, a journeyman Miner and among
the oldest of the Candidates, gives a small smile as the eggs start to hatch.
One of those dragons will be his, he knows it. But then, as one by one, the
younger lads and lasses to either side of him are Impressed, he begins to grow
worried. There are soon so few eggs left! Then, the Black Widow Spinner Egg
breaks open, disgorging a brown so dark he looks black in the glow lighting.
That brown heads as a beeline for the Miner, and Impression is made.
On the sands, Matheny reaches over to point S'rist at an egg just
as it hatches and the young dragon emerges. She smiles and then gives Jenryth a
pat of approval.
Samron seems less nervous as the hatching proceeds. He watches the
brown closely and hopefully until the green emerges and then she has all of his
attention.
On the sands, Maelyan snaps her fingers on her free hand,
chuckling over at her friend before turning her eyes to the chaos beforehand.
"Everyone's running about. It's a wonder people aren't getting stepped on
right now." There's a pause. "I just made them to protect our toes -
vulnerable toes. You don't want to have scorched feet tomorrow." A finger
is flicked outwards and pointed towards the Who Stole the Cookie? Egg. "It
appears that someone wants to be out /now/."
On the sands, Kirana nods. "Of course he is. Yer wouldn't
want them dragonets ter be wrong, wouldja?"
On the sands, Amilin nods to Divya as she returns, "They seem
to be choosing quicker, after that brown and bronze pair made up their
minds."
Terrilia smiles warmly at Jacera and the approaching Roltan,
bouncing Tirien gently and nodding. "Well met." She chuckles at
Kassima and peeks down at the Sands again--can't go to a Hatching and not
watch, after all.
On the sands, Geridon grins, that gets a chuckle from him. "I
don't think they *can* be wrong," he says, watching the Miner Impress a
brown.
"I said, Kassima, that I wasn't depriving Doomdark of its
cookie marks," Yashira informs Kassi with mock hauteur.
Roltan walks over and gives Jacera a hug, "Good to see you!
How have you been?"
Kaelyn smiles at Roltan and then looks back over at Terrilia for a
moment with a smile, watching her and the child.
Tirien is enthralled by the eggs and hatchlings--he's leaning
forward, no longer watching anyone around, just the Sands.
On the sands, Kaneda has to laugh at that last remark from
Geridon, hopping on his robe-hem from side to side.
On the sands, Makai watches the vocal little green to see who
she'll choose.
On the sands, Ysabel spares a short glance for the picky brown and
then returns her gaze to the green. She's closer after all, and prettier.
"No, I wouldn't want scorched feet." she replies, darting a quick smile
at Maelyan. "I really do appreciate it." She on impulse she reaches
out to try and catch Mae's hand in her free one.
On the sands, Redus shifts his feet now and and watches as more
activity takes place: a green, two greens -- one Impressed already -- and that
brown passes. He readies to step out of the way. "I don't think he's at
all a slouch."
On the sands, Divya says softly, under the noise of the crowd,
"I'm amazed A'zara found a lifemate. Given his flamboyant personality and
his liking for singing off-key, I didn't think he'd find such a perfect match
in that green."
Ember does grow serious, now, and gives her head a bit of a shake.
"I don't think I ever was good at making those sorts of guesses. Did you
have a thought on the matter?"
On the sands, Kalina smoothes down her robe with one, sweaty hand,
using the other to push some stray strands of hair away from her face,
expression ultimately somewhat pained - she casts a nervous glance towards the
brown, the green, and the eggs still rocking.
On the sands, Glamorous Impassioned Green settles her tail behind
her and lowers her neck at once in a rather smooth motion. Looking away from
the candidates to her own feet she lifts first one and then the other. One and
then the other again. Then comes the walking in slow tentative steps. She rocks
forward and then back in a swaying motion as she goes. For a moment wobbling on
her feet those wings flair up and to their full span for the first time. Again
she stops to pose as this manuever gains her back the balance she was in danger
of loosing. And once more she seems to pose for the audience, head lifting and
looking across the small space between her and the nearest candidate.
On the sands, Jhenni admits it, "They're all
incredible." And then she's too engrossed in watching impression after
impression to do more than mumble through her amazement. "I still can't
believe I'm here. That we're here. That we're impressing -- I'm afraid I might
wake up." She gives Izzy's hand another squeeze. "Its like a
dream."
Kassima tilts her nose up at Yashira, affecting a prim tone:
"That's why you should have stolen M'silne's marks, Yash. As I advised.
Then you could bet with those, and Doomdark would still never lack for
cookies." Her eyes slide back towards the Sands, though, and specifically
towards the green. "Mayhaps her for Redus? Nay, nay. Can't imagine what
made me think that."
Jacera returns Roltan's hug and chuckles a bit. "Very, very
busy. But I'm /so/ happy! Cierra just Impressed a Brown!"
On the sands, A young lad from Pars Hold gives out a cry of joy as
he watches a newly hatched green rush straight for him. The two spend several
moments face to face, completely ignoring both the assistant weyrlingmaster
tapping him on the shoulder to move off the sands, as well as the large curved
piece of the Dark Footprint Trail Egg that got stuck onto the young green's
back that she hasn't bothered to shake off yet.
On Chaedanth, Kandri raises a hand and gives Chaedanth a light,
but almost affectionate, slap as he croons down towards the sands. Particularly
it would seem at the green. "Chaedanth! She's just hatched for Faranth's
sake. Give it a rest."
Roltan grins, "I saw! Congratulations! Ahh, it is so good to
be home. I have missed this place so very much. And all my friends."
On the sands, Divya discreetly wipes sweat from her face and neck,
and rolls up her sleeves as far as they will go. Whew, hot enough to fry an egg
out here!
Terrilia glances up again, smiling, Jacera's question only now
registering. "Have we? Maybe--I'm afraid I've forgotten." Oops, too
late--Jacera's busy. She smiles at Kaelyn again, nodding to Tirien as he points
at something. "How have you and Nepenth been?"
On the sands, Geridon lifts his free hand to hide a laugh at the
green. He fixes his gaze on the posing dragonet. "There's trouble with
wings," he grins.
On the sands, Carianna watches the impressions with amazement.
"We wait so long for this moment and then it happens so quickly to really
enjoy the moment." The brown is looked over again and she agrees quickly
with the former stablehand. "No one said he was did they?"
On the sands, Ah ha! Maelyan has been snagged, and is drawn around
to Ysabel's free side. "Oh. You're welcome. Just a little idea to save us
some burns, that's all." Maelyan turns about to look at Geridon, and then
points up towards the galleries. "I hear someone calling you, Geri."
On the sands, Kirana looks where he's pointing. "Oh, I don't
know. She looks more uunsure than touble, if yer ask me."
On the sands, "Yeah, a dream," is Jel's echo of Jhenni.
Wow, such enthusiasm from the boy! He tries. And he makes slits of his eyes. He
searches for what? "Say ... I wonder where?"
On the sands, A blue dragon with a streak of near silver on his
right shoulder, falls free of the shards of the Last Carob Candy Egg. As he
pauses to open his wet wings, it can be seen that the silver continues onto his
right wing, terminating only when it reaches the membrane edge. The wings snap closed,
flinging egg yolk everywhere; and red-whirling eyes peer at his audience. Mind
made up within moments, he moves towards the mind he felt, ending at the knees
of a gangly girl. Impression!
J'nas' eyes don't leave the sands. "I don't have any idea
what her chances are. If she does Impress, I would guess a green."
On the sands, Redus chuckles and nods as he continues to scan then
sands. "I know. Just thought I'd say..." He smiles his
congratulations to the newest blue's new lifemate.
Kaelyn moves a little closer to Terrilia as her mate talks with
Roltan. "We have been good. How about you and Cyameth?"
On the sands, Ysabel squeezes Jhenni and Maelyan's hands tightly,
watching the green and occasionally one of the other Impressions occuring
around her. "I think you're right, Jhen. I'll wake up and be in my bed and
have a class in the morning. And this is all a dream brought on by too many
sweets before bed."
On the sands, Amilin is closer, and heads over to help the newly
Impressed blue and young Geena off the sands.
On the sands, Geridon raises his eyebrows, turning to look first
at Maelyan, then at the stands. "Hm?" he asks, distracted momentarily
from the occurrences on the sands. Shaking his head, he turns back just in
timet o see the beautiful blue Impress. "Lookit that streak of silver on
him."
Verenth dances excitedly as he spots a few blues moving on the
sands. A dancing dragon is perhaps not the best thing to be next to.
On the sands, Glamorous Impassioned Green lowers her wings slowly
as her head remains raised and canted to the side. They finally fold back, but
still drag lightly in the sand, and she finishes moving forward. The last two
meters between her and the candidates are crossed and she right away sticks her
muzzle into the face of one young lad. Staring at him for a moment she snorts
and draws back, giving a, 'RREEEeeee!' And turning away with a flick of her
tail. Dismissal is obvious and immediate as she continues down the line. But
wait, what was that? A glimmer of darkness amongst the ranks of the white.
Quicker now she moves forward her gaze still that swaying and rocking as if
moving to music, tail flicking behind her.
On the sands, Carianna watches the carbo candy egg crack and a
smile plays on her lips as a blue is seen and impresses. "I never figured
a blue would be in there." She murmurs to herself then turns back to the
other hatchlings still looking for their lifemates.
On the sands, Samron sees the lad next to him impress and offers
his congratulations before he steps away to give the pair more room. He goes
back to watching the green closely, curious to see who she will select.
On the sands, A Study in Scarlet Brown stalks adroitly down the
line of candidates, inspecting each before moving on to the next. But wait.
This one is interesting. The brown dragonet leans close, eyeing the dirty-blond
candidate in almost an intimidating manner -- considering it's a dragon and
all. A small huff escapes him. Too scruffy, he could be thinking. That will
never do. All must be in order. He draws himself up, dark wings draping
ominously about him. But... yes. Nevertheless, he is the one. It must be so,
for he is perfect.
Terrilia shrugs one shoulder, and her smile turns a little wry.
"We've been better, I'm afraid--you heard about the change of leadership
at Igen, I'm sure? And Val's broken leg? Hasn't been an easy few
months..." She's distracted as the green and brown seem to be making up
their minds, and trails off to watch.
On the sands, Jhenni eyes the little silvery blue and laughs as he
impresses. "Oh /good/. And look at that, that poor little brown that is
still searching. That is the same one isn't it? From near the beginning. Oh but
its so hard to keep track." She looks to Ysabel, "If its a dream,
then I'll try and dream you impress."
On the sands, Kirana keeps wary eyes on the young dragonets, ready
and willing to get out of their way if necessary.
Ember shakes her head again, "Did you ever ask her what she'd
hoped for? I confess to having no clue."
Jacera's broad grin fades a bit as she listens to Terrilia and
Kaelyn talking. She offers a sympathetic smile to the Igenite and nods.
"I've heard some about it."
On the sands, R'dus was about to say something to Carianan when he
feels eyes on him, really close. He looks up at them and suddenly releases
Carianna's hand. "Liorth?" he nods. "Yes. Food first."
Lillian grins as another Blue finds what he's looking for out on
the sands. "That Green looks rather determined. Look, the Brown is on the
move as well." She takes a deep breath, letting it out in a happy rush.
Flooded gardens forgotten in the excitement of the moment, Lillian looks more
relaxed than she's been in days.
J'nas admits, "I haven't seen her since she was Searched. Nor
have I met any of the Candidates."
On the sands, Ysabel flinches visibly as the green so obviously
dismisses a lad. Then her eyes dart towards the little brown and his new
lifemate. "Oh, Redus! Redus and Liorth!" She beams at her two friends.
"And I'll dream you two Impress, so we can stick together."
On the sands, Maelyan bobs her head in agreement with Jhenni.
"Same here, Ysa, Jhen. I hope you guys Impress. Me, I'm counting on
staying on these hot sands." Ysabel's hand squeezing is returned in kind
wiht one of her own, and she looks back towards the green. "Hmmm. Sounded
like Aladrea, Geri." Completely off subject, but -- R'dus is given a loud
cheer. "Redus! Liorth! Congratulations!"
Abbe jumps again. "Oh great for Redus!"
On the sands, Divya strolls over to where Liorth and R'dus are
standing, lost in the wonder of Impression. "Congratulations, R'dus, on
finding your lifemate. If you'll follow me, I'll take you both to where he can
get his first meal."
On Chaedanth, Kandri gives a disgruntled, "Mph," This
time as the brown chooses Redus. Her brows draw down in a frown and she reaches
up to scratch at the back of her head. "Hmmm..." Then she shrugs and
seems to be looking on to the next dragonet.
On the sands, Kirana smiles again as yet another Impression
occurs. "Redus? Great!"
Ember ohohs! tugging at J'nas hand while pointing with the other
fingers, "There! Redus Impressed! He's a Brownrider, like you!"
Sh'yar cheers, "A brown for Redus! The browns are making good
choices today."
On the sands, Jel missed R'dus' Impression, but not his
congratulations. Bemusement crumples his face.
Jacera looks back down at the sands as she hears everyone
mentioning Redus' name. "Oh! Redus too? He's another wonderful
choice!"
On the sands, Kalina shifts her feet, swallowing hard. Her hair
seems to be wilting; in honesty, /she/ seems to be wilting, looking more and
more nervous as the eggs decrease in number. She shakes her head, attempting a
smile towards Redus - his Impression caught through the corner of her eye.
Mallea oohs softly as Redus is chosen by a brown, "Zsofyth's
favourite!"
On the sands, Who stole the Cookie? Egg shakes hard. So hard that
it starts to roll around, as whoever is inside seems determined to come out.
On the sands, R'dus manages a smile, one different han the one
he's given the beautiful brown that has found him, to Divya and nods.
"Thank you ma'am." And he follows, checking to see that Liorth is
coming too.
Roltan smiles at Mallea, "Hello Dear, how are you?"
On the sands, Geridon calls a congrats to R'dus and his new
lifemate, before turning to scan the sands again. "Still a lot
left.."
On the sands, Carianna's mouth drops open as he hand is released
and then R'dus speaks the brown's name. "You?" She asks as if
dreaming now herself. "Oh Red!" She babbles and laughs while watching
the pair head off.
Jacera shoots a glance over at Mallea and grins. "Another for
her to flirt with, dear?"
Kassima bounces a bit on Lysseth's leg, with a yell: "Redus!
Good! I liked him--and Liorth, a fair name. Lovely." Scribble, scribble,
scribble.
Terrilia grimaces and nods, though the grimace twists to a
half-smile as she looks down again, toward the brown. "News gets around...Good
for him," she murmurs.
Mallea smiles and shrugs at Jacera before waving to Roltan,
"Hi!"
On the sands, Kirana frowns at Geridon. "Lots? Well, there's
some."
Roltan smiles, "How are you Dear? And your sweet
Zysofyth?"
J'nas lets out a loud, "Hooray!" as Ember points out
R'dus and his new lifemate. "See, browns make excellent decisions,"
he states matter-of-factly.
On the sands, Maelyan falls silent -- she does indeed settle down
in her antics, but that's for a reason. Green meets her eyes and Maelyan kneels
to throw her arms about the hatchling's neck. "Irelith! Fun we shall have,
and you /are/ beautiful." A happy sigh is given and she bustles to her
feet again. "Food. You need food. You can have fun with food." Sure,
she might be babbling, but she's happy.
On the sands, Touching each other on the sands, Get a Clue Egg
begins to rock violently and Mystery Machine Egg follows suit. Knocking
together they help to break each other's shells, and after a particularly
violent crash a hatchling falls out of each. A mottled green peers around and
stretches out her wings a bit as the newly hatched bronze beside her gets to
his feet. The green starts to move forward but those first steps are the
hardest and she falls to the sands with a cry of fright. But the little bronze
is already a gentleman and comes to the rescue, nudging her to her feet.
Together both hatchlings make towards a small group of white robed boys huddled
together. The bronze hesitates as if he's unsure of himself and this time it's
the green's turn to come to the rescue. She nudges her clutchsib right to one
of the boys as she goes to another. The two boys, brothers from Telgar,
simulateously kneel and embrace their new lifemates.
On the sands, Jhenni catches that, too, and applauds R'dus and
Liorth. And then Maelyan and the little green, too. So close, so close. She
stands on the far side of Ysabel and peers around her friend to eye the perfect
little dragonet. "She didn't - oh she did, she did, she did!" Back,
to Jel, "Do you see that? Maelyan's gone and impressed green.
Irelith."
Tirien's attention is still locked on the Sands, grinning as he
watches.
Mallea is trying to watch the sands and answer Roltan's questions
at the same time, "We are both doing wonderfull."
On the sands, Kirana grins over at Geridon. "So, I guess it's
just you an' me, now, boyo."
On the sands, Ysabel drops Maelyan's hand like a hot coal.
"Mae! Oh, Mae, congratulations! She's gorgeous! Irelith and Mae!" She
squeezes Jhenni's hand again, her eyes brimming with delight for her friend.
On the sands, Glamorous Impassioned Green had come to stop before
the one with the long ebony hair and now...now she is Irelith. Once more her
wings raise and spread and she croons long and sweet to Maelyan as she leans
forward, muzzle barely to touch against the now-weyrlings face.
On the sands, Merwen shifts her feet and then claps happily for
both R'dus and Maelyan as the find their own lifemates. She looks at the cookie
looking egg, curious to see what it will hold.
On the sands, G'non emerges from the caverns...and goes right on
out across the sands towards Maelyan. "Congratulations, Maelyan," he
says. "Shall we go see about getting your Irelith her first meal?"
On the sands, Jel risks a glance at the galleries. And his eyes
hold on a flash of pearlescent gray. His mom. Radiant in her dress. And then
Maelyan Impresses. "I saw," he fibs to Jhenni. "That's
great," is added wanly.
On the sands, The mystery of the Who Stole the Cookie Egg has
resolved itself into a brooding blue dragon.
On the sands, Brooding Persistent Blue
Stocky, for a blue dragon, this hatchling is a dark blue, almost a
Navy-the shade of gathering storms at dusk. Darker patches swirl up his hide,
making him look almost like he's wearing a harness; these culminate in a dark
patch just above the eyes that extends down the side of his jaw, making him
look for, all the world, like he has a perpetual scowl. Though newly hatched,
he moves with purpose, as if determined to overcome youthful clumsiness with
sheer willpower and persistence. When still, this striking fellow tends to let
his wings fold around him like a protective mantle.
On the sands, The Truth Egg has been still up 'till now, the
dragon within not feeling the urge to stir. Up 'till now being the key words.
But now, now it moves, abruptly too, one moment lying still, the next wobbling
from the insistant movements within, sand around it shifting with the actions.
On the sands, Geridon grins, watching Maelyan Impress as he gives
Kirana's hand a light squeeze.
Cyameth is watching, too, and he warbles brightly at the arrival
of a blue. Making sure his rider doesn't miss it, maybe.
On the sands, Makai says "Look a blue!"
On the sands, Carianna begins cheering for Maelyan now as word
finally reaches her that there has been another impression. "She's
beautiful Mae." She calls out as she steps carefully towards another group
of candidates.
Kassima repeats with more scribbling, "Irelith is the green,
Lyss? What a fine lot of names this clutch has had. Don't know the lass, alas,
but... a blue now?"
On the sands, Kalina takes several more deep breaths, smiling
hesitant congratulations to Impressions that occur close enough for her to
catch-- she'll have to catch up with a good number of them after the hatching
is over. The newest blue is, however, caught; she tilts her head to the side,
watching it, feet still shifting about.
On the sands, At one edge of the group of eggs, Gothic Line Art
Egg starts to tumble forward towards the candidates as if the hatchling is
starting the searching process just a bit early. But not that early, because as
the egg begins to shake small cracks start to appear in it's surface. Those
cracks grow and quite suddenly a blue sits amidst a jumble of shattered egg
shells. And sits; he doesn't seem very inclined to move from where he is. After
a few moments he finally stands up a bit wobbly and walks forward--right onto a
piece of his shell. At the sound of it cracking under his talon the little guy
jumps a bit and tangles his wings with his feet and falls to the ground. He
calls pleadingly to anybody who will help him, and it seems he called to one
person in particular. A nearby young girl from the bakercraft rushes forward
and helps untangle the blue from it's wings and sets him to his feet before
covering her new lifemate with kisses.
On the sands, Maelyan places her hand upon Irelith's muzzle.
"Oh, life is already grand, Irelith. Now, your first meal?" Winks and
happy smiles are sent to her friends as she follows G'non off of the sands.
"Yes, sir."
Roltan smiles, "Glad to hear it. And little Natalea? How is
my little granddaughter?"
On the sands, G'non leads Maelyan and Irelith off the sands.
Terrilia chuckles, smiling warmly and nodding, though she doesn't
look up at Kassima. "Yes, a blue. Kind of surly-looking, though." She
leans down to kiss Tirien on the top of his head.
On the sands, Irelith walks after Maelyan much the same way she
did before. With a sway and spring in her green step.
On the sands, Hidden in the Dark Egg breaks apart slowly and
meticulously; the hatchling inside taking its time to do it right. A shard
falls here and there and a green head peaks out. She blinks at the white robed
things and takes a particularly long moment to gaze up at the big bronze and
gold watching her. Finally she breaks off an even bigger piece of her shell and
steps out delicately. She makes her way to the candidates and walks around the
inside of their circle, inspecting each one carefully. She comes to a rather
mangy looking boy whose hair keeps falling out of it's tail and her head cocks
to one side as she contemplates this possible acquisition. Someone to improve
with her help? Perhaps this is the reason she finally stops, taking this young
boy as hers.
On the sands, Geridon grins as the cookie egg hatches, "Wow,
he's so dark. I didn't know they could be that dark.." Distracted, he
studies the Truth egg. "Look, we're finnally gonna see what's in that
buried egg."
On the sands, Amilin makes her way over to the newly Impressed
Baker girl and leads them off the sands, only to return just in time to send
another young pair after them.
Tirien bounces gently and points at the blue. "Boo!" he
says again, happily, and turns to grin up at his mother.
On the sands, Jhenni claps her hands again, this time to watch the
dark little blue make his way into the world. Stay calm. Be brave. Wait for the
dragonet. "Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm. Stay calm -- I can't , I'm too
excited." Jhenni's mantra breaks down just asit starts and she grins at
Geridon. "Isn't he though? Even darker'n Jel here!"
On the sands, Brooding Persistent Blue makes an undignified tumble
out of the egg. He endeavours to get to his feet, and despite a few near
tumbles, he manages it through sheer strength of will. He then peers around
pretending that nothing undignified has happened. He then sees the large number
of egg shards around, he kicks at them angry at not being the first. Nearly
tumbling backwards again.
Mallea smiles at Roltan, "Wonderful as always."
Kassima waves a hand vaguely. "I can't say aught against
ill-tempered Hatchlings, given how Lysseth screeched in her time. He looks hale
and healthy t'me, and that's the thing a'course. But then I'm a bit partial
t'blues."
On the sands, Ysabel's eyes dart here and there, watching a blue,
a green, and Impression, a rocking egg. Nothing catches her attention for long
as she tries to see it all.
On the sands, Samron smiles for the impressions and then looks
towards the arriving blue. "He's a handsome one." he comments to
nobody in particular.
Kaelyn nods to Terrilia. "I have heard, but how are you
doing?"
Yashira's lips quirk a little, and she murmurs, "I'm partial
to blues in a way, myself."
On the sands, The Truth Egg continues to rock steadily, the sand
that hides it from view taking little time to be shaken away, revealing the egg
in it's entirety. An egg which, now freed from the sand, doesn't halt in it's
persistant shaking, the occupant clearly unwilling to be bound within the shell
any longer.
Sh'yar chuckles, "I don't envy S'din and his staff this batch
of dragonets."
On the sands, Kirana just stares at the blue and smiles.
"He's tryin' so hard ter be dignified!" She grins. "Ain't easy
ter do when yer newborn.
Roltan smiles, "Good. I will catch up with you later
on."
On the sands, Carianna turns her attention to the dark hatchling
in question then nods as she listens to the others. "Beautify none the
less, don't you think?" She queries lightly as a side step is taken to let
another impressed pair get by. "
Terrilia smirks and does glance toward Kassima now. "Well, so
am I..." She sighs and shrugs again to Kaelyn. "Been better, but I
think things are looking up now. Val's finally got the cast off his leg, and
things seem to be settling down a little."
On the sands, Geridon laughs as he agrees with Kirana. "Very
true."
On the sands, Makai says "They are all beautiful, it's all
happening so fast!"
On the sands, Jel sneaks a second peek at his mom. The slim
figure, small for distance from Jel, notes her son's regard. And for all her
glorious garb, she does a very Tillekian thing, a place famous for capable
women: she offers her son a thumb's up of approval. Jel smiles, being keen of
eye, and tells Jhenni, "It's all happening so fast."
On the sands, Wise Herbalist Egg shakes, then stops. Rolls a bit,
then stops. Finally cracks start to appear but after a moment they stop growing
too. Finally, with what must be supreme effort from the hatchling inside, the
egg bursts open and a brown body tumbles out. He nervously gets to his feet,
glancing in what seems to be several directions at once before choosing one.
Unfortunately, he's chosen to go towards the sire and dam instead of those
scary things staring at him. He's undeterred by Jenryth's warble and keeps
heading towards her--until he's close enough to get behind her and hide.
Anybody who can see him at this point will notice that he has plopped to the
ground behind his mother. But unfortunately he can't stay there and it's
Dzurath who nudges the brown to his feet and towards the candidates. With a
disgruntled buggle the newborn heads to a group of candidates and chooses a
girl from the Weavercraft, who hugs her new lifemate. "Yes, I promise to
protect you, always."
Kaelyn looks out onto the sand at the new blue. She whispers,
"Wow isn't he a beauty."
Herath emerges from the tunnel to the bowl, circling momentarily
before she backwings to a neat landing on on one of the ledges overlooking the
sands.
Herath has arrived.
Kindre gives Herath's neck a loving rub before she slips down with
the polished ease of familiarity. The gold's eyes seem to burn through Kindre
until she is certain her lifemate is sure-footed on the ground, then turn
equally as hot to the surroundings in a quick survey.
Kindre has arrived.
Jacera leans against Kaelyn gently and sighs dreamily as she
watches the sands.
On the sands, The Truth Egg topples over at a particularly strong
shove from within, hairline cracks spiderwebbing and widening across it's
surface, creating a roadmap of small splits in the shell. From within a faint scratching
sound can be heard, like talons inside the shell are scraping at it from
inside, causing the shell to begin to flake away.
Kassima slants a glance towards Yashira. "Nay that I'm
partial for the same reasons, mind you." Back to Terrilia: "I'd find
it odd if'n 'tweren't! Greens are a'course m'favorites, likewise. But there's
always been something about blues."
On the sands, At last the time has come for the Truth egg to
reveal the answer to yet another mystery. A damp young queen is where that
burnished egg once was.
On the sands, Erudite Aristocrat Gold
Henna strokes embrace this gold's serpentine neck in a wealth of
bronzed torques, etching mysteriously deep grooves between the smoothed, sandy
dunes of her supple ridges. Rounded pyramids of sun-darkened amber are her
headknobs, creating a gateway between the burnished angles of her jasmine
muzzle and the tawny hide beyond. With spars and wingbones in yellowed ivory,
her wings seem as a pair of elegant fans, wingsails crafted in the hue of
stretched papyrus and decorated in a spartan filigree of coppery glyphs. Petite
though she may be, of trim musculature and slender bones, natural poise will
lend her an easy edge. Within waits a passionate spirit, coiled and ready to
emerge, betrayed not by the passive sway of her winsome tail or the languid
grace of her every movement.
Kaelyn chuckles at Tirien. "That's the best kind little one.
A blue, yep."
On the sands, Kalina shuffles closer to a small group of
candidates, finally allowing her hand to be grasped, so that she stands within
them, in something like companionable silence. A deep breath is taken, her feet
are shifted, and her free hand is used to wipe down her face again, hair
clinging and sticking to her heated skin. Her eyes widen, slightly, as the
queen is revealed.
On the sands, Makai chuckles at the little scaredy brown,
"Awe, he's so cute."
"Telgar's duties," Kindre offers cheerfully after
quickly shirking free of her riding gear. Spotting fellow Telgari, she begins
to weave her way into that direction. Herath, of course, finds a nice spot for
viewing and peers down towards the grounds below.
On the sands, Ysabel gasps as the truth egg shatters and reveals a
young queen. "Oh, oh, oh! Jhenni, /look/!" SHe stares, eyes wide with
awe and wonder. "She's incredible!"
On Chaedanth, "Oh bother," Kandri grumbles from her
position on Chaedanth's back even as Chaedanth gives an excited bugle into the
galleries. Once more he flutters his wings and a breeze is stirred about him.
On the sands, Kirana stands, rooted to her spot as her eyes take
in the gleaming gold. "Wow" she breathes. Then she nudges Geridon.
"See her, Geridon?"
Kaelyn nods to Terrilia. "I bet he is glad to get that cast
off. I hope things settle for you now.:
Yashira blinks, and turns toward Kindre to wave.
"Kindre!" she calls. She's by Maylia and Kassima.
Sh'yar smiles, "Oh look a queen! My aren't Jenryth's
daughters all haughty?"
On the sands, Geridon nods at Kirana, and is probably theonly
person to frown as the young queen dragonet puts in an appearance.
"Shards.. I coulda sworn it was a blue.." he comments softly,
watching the lovely creature.
Roltan lets out a whistle, "Wow. Beautiful." He makes
his way over to a familiar brown, "Well here's a pair I haven't seen in
such a long time!"
On the sands, Jel, ever alert for rare finds, holds his breath at
first sight of the Reaches new queen. He supports Ysa with: "Incredible!"
Terrilia chuckles at Kassima and raises a hand in greeting to
Herath and Kindre. "True enough--I rather like greens myself. Igen's
Duties!" Oos and ahs draw her attention back to the Sands again, though,
and she blinks. "Didn't realize there was a gold egg down
there...Thanks--I hope so, too."
Kassima blinks at the arrival of a gold, darting a brief look her
way. "Would've thought the 'Reaches had plenty of golds," she
murmurs. "Huh. Hey there, Kin! You're in time; there's a lovely blue down there
who hasn't found his match yet."
Lillian gasps, "Oh Y'il! Look, its a Gold...and a
beauty."
Josilina glances over at Sh'yar at that, "I don't think
they're all haughty." She disagrees with a little grin.
Jacera gasps appropriately as well as the Gold bursts from her
shell.
Kaelyn looks at her mate with some sadness in her eyes for her,
knowing how much Jace wished she had found a lifemate.
Y'il wows at he sees the glint of gold. "HEy, Look, Aquileth,
another gold for you."
On the sands, Carianna turns at the sounds of some girls
exclaiming then notices what all the fuss is over. She chuckles softly and
watches as a bunch of female candidates seem to move forward to get a better
look at it. "Be careful." she warns them as reminds of VSC are given
out.
On Chaedanth, Kandri glances down at Roltan and stares for a short
time before she says, "Hello Roltan. Been well I hope?"
Yashira's head bobs. "It's a very good blue. I think he'd
suit Geridon, really."
On the sands, Erudite Aristocrat Gold opens gooey wings a bit
awkwardly, shaking them lightly once she's got her bearings, sending goo and
bits of shell into the air, though not very far. But after that she doesn't
hesitate a moment before starting her journey off, plowing ahead on rapidly
steadying legs, wings held partially open for balance. Here she comes!
On the sands, All dragonets are hungry but the green that topples
from the breaking Majesty of the Night Sky Egg must be extremly so. She doesn't
bother to right herself before taking a taste of the sand to see how delicious
it is: not very. She finally does stand up and goes for the egg goo on her
wing: better, but not quite right. Next is a piece of her shell and with this
failure she gets a bit fed up, letting out a mournful and hungry cry. Spotting
those white robed meals farther off she finally heads full speed towards them,
her hungry cries continuing. She stops at a boy with a rather long robe and
starts to munch at the bottom, but when it doesn't meet her standards she moves
on. A girl makes the mistake of kneeling when the green comes close, but
luckily for her (or unluckily) the hatchling's only reaction is to start
munching on the girl's hair. The famished green disintangles her mouth from the
girl's hair and seems about to move on when she again cries out in her
desperate need for food. Turning back she nudges the kneeling soggy-haired
girl, who hugs her lifemate. "I promise, I'll find you better food, and
lots of it!"
Tirien grins at Kaelyn and ooos softly at the gold, his eyes wide,
his mouth a round little 'O'. He points again, looking up toward his mother.
Sh'yar smiles at Josi, "Perhaps I just don't know Lhia as
well as I should."
On the sands, Jhenni echoes Makai, attention on the shy little creature
that choose a Weaver. "I wish I had a mother like Jenryth to hide behind
right now", she mutters to those closest. She doesn't even try and find
her family in the galleries, time for that later. And then, to the gold,
"Oh my. So that's the truth of it? I didn't think there would be gold out
here today -- incredible." And it is. She is. "Now where'd that blue
go?"
Kindre smiles, waving to Terrilia cheerfully on her way to join
Yashira, Kassima and Maylia. "Indecisive blue, you say," she asks Kassima
and glances below. "Did I hear...ah yes, I see...a gold as well. Oh,
Yashira? He seems like such a nice fellow. I do hope he Impresses this
eve," she remarks and smiles.
Lillian laughs, glancing up at Aquileth, then sideways at Y'il.
"Does she meet with his approval, Y'il?"
J'nas leans forward as the new queen hatches from her shell.
"I didn't realize 'Reaches was in need of another gold," he murmurs.
On the sands, Brooding Persistent Blue looks round to see his Gold
sister. He then holds his head higher, and reaches out a wing, as if to
indicate to her the candidates they have left. In the process he nearly tumbles
again. He sqwarks crossly. Then suddenly turns round quickly, what if his
special one is gone? His cries become anxious.
Y'il chuckles. "He says she's too young to be
flattered."
Roltan grins, "Quite well, thank you. And you and
Chaedanth?"
On the sands, Amidst all the chaos of the Hatching, it's easy to
miss things. Near the back of the clutch, Wisps of Silk Egg has been rocking
quietly for some time. Now it cracks, without any fanfare, and a pale blue head
peeks out. Without making much noise or fuss about it, the little blue flops
out onto the sand, emits a single creel, and then wobbles his way over to one
of the smallest, mousiest girls among the Candidates. Impression!
On the sands, Geridon looks away from the golden dragonet, seeking
the blue as well. "I dunno?" The cries of the blue catch his
attention though, and he grins.
Lillian chuckles, "He will have to bide his time then."
On the sands, Merwen fidgets anxiously on the sands, sleeves still
fretted by clammy fingers. She moves in as the number of candidates starts to
decrease. The cries of the brooding blue attract her attention and she looks at
him hopefully.
On the sands, Jhenni saw that, she did, and tugs on Ysabel's hand.
"Did you see that? That egg you really liked I think just hatched to
blue."
On the sands, Geridon's mouth drops open as the mousy girl
impresses. "That's gonna drive Barzerk wild," he comments, glancing
at the rather obnoxious candidate.
On Chaedanth, Kandri unhooks one hand from the other crossed over
her chest and gestures into the air. "Well enough. Nothing exciting unless
you count greens rising and Chaedanth chasing every few days."
On the sands, Ysabel tears her eyes from the gold in time to see
her favorite egg hatch - and Impress to someone else. "Drat. Well, good
for her!" She grins and nods at Jhenni, then turns her eyes back to the
dragons. Blue, gold. Gold, blue. What to look at.
Ember leans in closer to J'nas and mutters under her breath,
"So what does that mean? Jenryth thought they needed help?"
On the sands, Kirana finally becomes aware of her feet and hops
wildly. "Oh shells." Ow! Coming back to the sands she scuffs her toes
in the sand.
Kaelyn brings an arm around Jace's shoulders and hugs her tightly.
"These hatchlings are beautiful"
Jacera smiles at her mate and nods. "Very beautiful... And
one of them is Cierra's..."
J'nas nods. "That's what I always that it meant," he
whispers in return.
On the sands, Erudite Aristocrat Gold seems satisfied, at first,
just to walk around, paying little mind to the white-robed figures. She is,
after all, having an adventure, one they are little part of. Or are they? As
strutting about and flicking sand occasionally begins to get rather routine,
even punctuated by trilling warbles, she slows, looking the candidates over
slowly, as if inspecting each and every one down to the last hair. To her blue
brother she warbles a crisp agreement. Indeed.
Kassima wiggles a hand from side to side in a so-so gesture.
"Nay particularly indecisive, Kin--about as bad as... well, certes many
hatchlings I've seen. He's got a temper on him, though. Reminds me of Lyss, a
bit, which might be why I'm enjoying watching him."
On the sands, Carianna's head travels in many directions as she
tries to keep up with the hatchlings that are moving about. A jump over a goo
puddle is done and then she back steps to clear the way for a passing green.
"I'm beginning to feel very small out here. " She murmurs as darting
steps are taken to get herself behind a taller lad.
Sh'yar says "The browns are definitely very much on the
reddish side this clutch."
On the sands, Storms seem to be brewing over Midnight Fog Egg as
lightning cracks start to appear on it's surface. With a thunderous crack the
egg bursts open, revealing a small blue. His hide a riot of blue shades, the
hatchling seems as stormy as his hide and his entrance and he glares around at
everything around him. This doesn't stop him from moving forward after he gives
a kick at the shell that has been keeping him trapped. He passes Childs Drawing
Egg just as it cracks revealing a petite green, and he rumbles grumpily at her
for distracting him. He continues on, though the green follows along like a
puppy who has found it's newest friend. The blue looks behind him and rumbles
at the green, who only stops until he turns back to walk towards the candidates.
Following behind again, she continues with the grumpy hatchling to a group of
girls. Once there the blue again turns around to rumble at the green, who
responds with a cheerful bugle. Quite a pair, they approach two girls next to
each other and impress simultaneously to two High Reaches Weyr natives.
Kindre chuckle and bobs her head in response to Kassima's comment.
"Well, it certainly keeps things interesting, especially for those
wagering," she notes and grins.
On the sands, Ysabel giggles at the sight of the grumpy blue and
cheerful green. "Aww, how cute. Sibling rivalry." she remarks,
amused.
On the sands, Kalina's expression is almost hopeful, as she gazes
on towards the gold. She's rather rapidly distracted by the green and blue
Impressing nearby, disappointment colouring her face briefly, before she turns
her gaze away again.
On the sands, With a burst of energy from the hatchling within,
Magnifying Glass Egg breaks apart in a series of shaking contractions before
finally revealing the vibrant green. With the same energy she used to get out
of her confinement she looks around in amazement at those around her. She gets
to her feet too quickly and stumbles to the sand, but immediately tries again
and succeeds at staying up. With that step finished, she turns and examines her
shell, nudging the pieces, before going to a nearby unhatched egg and nudging
it gently. Now she seems to have decided to take a look at each and every egg,
before a gentle warble from her sire tells her it's time to look at something
else. She turns to the candidates and her curiosity gets the better of her and
off she goes at top speed to a mixed group of candidates huddled together. Once
there she bounds around them several times before she gets dizzy and sits down.
Looking up at the boy she stopped in front of, she warbles to him for help. His
face lights up and he kneels down to help her to her feet, then off the sands.
Kaelyn looks down at the Midnight Fog Egg and the little blue that
has emerged. "There we go. Another blue. "
On the sands, Jel finally lets his eyes linger on a dragonet. And
it's not the gold. It's a green, remarkably small. The boy is sometimes drawn
to extremes. When he hears Carianna's statement, he says, "I know how you
feel," forgetting himself for the moment: such is the magnificence of this
experience.
On the sands, Kirana surruptitiously rubs one foot on the calf of
the other and still attempts to watch all the action.
Jacera grins at Kaelyn and pokes her lightly. "Never can have
enough Blues around?"
Kaelyn grins and nods. "Nope, never enough blues around"
On the sands, G'non escorts the lad and his green off the sands
with murmured words of congratulations, before returning to watch the remaining
dragons and Candidates once again.
Jacera glances up at Nepenth for a moment before grinning at
Kaelyn. "I'd think Nepenth would be more eager for more Greens."
On the sands, Geridon watches the flurry of activity on the sands,
turning his head one wya then another trying in vain to see everything at once.
"It's really going fast now.."
On the sands, The Mystery Meat Egg seems to have been rocking for
a rather long time. At least for those who've kept an eye on it. It seems to
bounce a bit this way, then back, shiver a few times before finally a few
cracks mar it's surface. But that's just the beginning, for another eternity
passes before this tiny bright blue actually manages to bust through his shell.
But for as long as it took him to get here--he seems to Impress in just a
moment. Heading strait for, and claiming, an equally small, dark haired girl
from Keroon, as his own.
On the sands, Brooding Persistent Blue rushes, then remembers his
dignity, and slows to a walk, as he inspects the candidates. He seems to almost
fold his wings behind his back as he inspects the remaining ones. He walks past
them once, then turns and inspects each candidate closely, before staring at
one smiling young man, turning his head on one side. Moving his head close to
the face, can this really be the one? Is he good enough? Does he have dignity?
Terrilia chuckles and nods her agreement with Jacera and Kaelyn.
"Blues and greens are good," she murmurs distractedly. "They're
all good."
Nepenth watches the hatchlings and warbles.
On the sands, Matheny gives Jenryth yet another pat and smiles as
the dragonets all seem to be finding mates without too much difficulty. She
comments to S'rist, "That first bronze had me a little worried, but it
seems to be going well."
On the sands, Jhenni tries to settle. Jhenni tries to remain
standing; bare feet slip and sink into the hot Sands. "Aye Izzy. They're
each so different. And yet... " /Dragon/. "She eyes Jel again and
tries to see what he is watching. "How are you holding up?"
Kaelyn raises a brow and grins. "Oh Nepenth loves greens, but
the blues he likes too. He wants to teach them how to fish"
On the sands, S'rist smiles over towards his weyrmate and nods,
"Took him a while to get moving alright, but since then they've been doing
rather well. Dzurath is happy with them."
On the sands, Under The Limitless Moons Egg hasn't seemed to have
been moving, not even a little. But wait, is that a tail sticking out of it? A
few candidates motion towards it and then seem to forget about it in the moment
that an Impression happens nearby. When they look back, the egg seems to still
be perfectly still, though a bit farther to the right than it was, and no tail.
Must have been seeing things. With a shrug they look away to the hatchlings
already making their way around on the sands nearby. No one seems quite sure
when that egg actually vanished from it's space and left that deep forest green
in it's place. Well, except for the quiet boy from Lewis Hold whom she
Impresses to. He saw all her hard work to get free, not that he'll ever tell
anyone her secret.
Jacera giggles softly at Kaelyn and nods. "So he can be a big
brother to them, eh?" SHe looks up at the Blue again. "Is that it,
Nepenth?"
On the sands, R'don blinks suddenly, falling to his knees and
wrapping his arms around the blue dragon's neck. "Oh Gederoth, I'm glad to
be with you too," he explaims, his eyes filling with tears.
Yashira's face splits into a wide grin, and she hoots.
"Geridon got the blue! Geridon got the blue!"
On the sands, Jhenni twigs though, at the impression of Gederoth
and Geridon -- R'don. "Oh, oh... /oh/." There are no words. There is
only delight.
On the sands, Gederoth croons softly.
Nepenth warbles and croons to Jacera as though answering her
directly. He bugles at the other hatchlings on the sand.
On the sands, Kirana starts as her sweetheart Impresses. Then her
face is wreathed in a smile. "Oh, Geridon!"
On the sands, G'non smiles as he approaches R'don and his lifemate.
"Congratulations, you two." He gives them another few seconds, before
gently steering them in the direction of the passageway.
Kindre's eyes widen. "He did? Wonderful! Absolutely
wonderful," she exclaims and claps her hands together briefly. "Now
he can come teach us both how to shoot, eh Yash?" A grin curls her lips
before she glances back to watch the newest weyrling pair.
Jacera giggles again and looks back down just in time to see R'don
impress. "Oh, good for him! I was hoping he would too."
Kaelyn looks at the sand at Geridon impresses a blue. "Good
for you Geridon!" She yells out to him.
On the sands, Kalina's smile widens - if only briefly - to greet
R'don with some measure of congratulations; she's still, however, a moving blob
of white robe, squeezing the hand in hers as she hops from one foot to another,
nervously cogitating over the remaining eggs.
On the sands, Jel squints, as if a harsh wind slapped his face. A
reality check. "Congratulations," he calls, perhaps being a good sport,
for he watches a critic Impress. "Congratulations, Geridon."
Kassima claps her hands together once, grinning over at Yashira.
"There, that settles that! And I'm glad we *didn't* bet on him getting
blue--Gederoth, a bit like his old name. 'Tis a fair matching."
On the sands, Makai says "A blue! Geri impressed a
blue!"
Yashira laughs, glancing over at Kindre. "I already know how
to shoot."
On the sands, Erudite Aristocrat Gold appears to reach the
conclusion that these white clad people must hold some purpose. So she begins
to march towards them posture slightly aloof, pausing here and there to give
one of the girls an inspecting look. But time does no favors to the gnawing
hunger, and she creels unhappily, a swift movement stirring up hot sand.
But...whats this? Her sharp gaze seems to have caught something, something she
likes! Hurried steps bring her directly in front of a straight haired, cobalt
eyed young woman, muzzle poking itself firmly to her mid-section. Look alive
now!
Terrilia ahs and smiles softly, watching the blue's Impression.
On the sands, R'don gets to his feet, his hand resting on the
blue's headknob as if he'll never remove it. Rather dazedly, he looks around
and nods to G'non bemusedly.
Sh'yar says "I had that boy pegged for a brown."
On the sands, To most of the candidates, and to the Galleries, the
Wanderer's Will-o-wisp Egg doesn't seem to have even cracked yet. The
semi-circle of candidates around the egg, though, know otherwise, as they heard
one snap, and now a crackling sound fills their ears. It sounds much like a
mid-winter hearth fire, and each pop coincides with a small division in the
egg's surface. The candidates step back slightly when a green wing pokes
through one side. Small bits of shell constantly fall around the dragonet now,
as she shakes a few from her head. She seems very calm in her duties, poking
bits of tiny shell pieces from her body. When she realizes that they aren't all
going to come off, she starts to warble sadly to the group of candidates. When
none of them step forward, she turns from them, to inspect other white spots on
the sands. Over there, she thinks. That's where her lifemate must be. Still
warbling, she makes her way over to a girl from Keroon, and sits at her feet.
Amidst tears, the girl leans over to wipe the small bits of eggshell from the
dragonet's neck, comforting her. "I know. But you have to make up your
mind," she pauses, listening to a low croon from the dragonet, "Yes,
I think that will be better. We'll get you some food, and I can clean you off
while you eat." She follows an assistant off, with her new lifemate close
behind.
On the sands, Samron offers his congratulations to the former
Geridon and then straightens his robe out to face the remaining egg.
On the sands, Nabolese Wherry Egg shivers rhythmically in the
sands in time to a methodical taping that seems to come from inside. The
tapping grows louder as the shivering increases, then the cracks start to form
all over it's surface.
Kindre waves Yashira comment off and laughs. "Oh, true, true.
Well...it'll give him an excuse to come visit Telgar once he's graduated,
anyhow. Expert lesson or somesuch," she suggests.
On the sands, Ysabel stares, shocked, at the gold that has planted
herself in front of her. "Xemyth?" she gasps. "Xemyth! Of course
I'll never leave you!"
On the sands, Carianna turns and smiles as R'don impresses, even
if the tall lad she stands with looks disappointed. "Oh chin up." She
tries to comfort. "That egg there may hold your lifemate." Then more
cheers are heard. "Way to go Ysabel!"
Kaelyn nods approvingly at the gold's choice. "Ysabel is a
good choice."
On the sands, Kirana smiles again as she sees Ysabel Impress.
"OH, good fer ya, Ys! I knew yer'd do it!"
Kaelyn has disconnected.
Sh'yar says "Ysabel, the little queen chose well. She had
lots of choices."
Lillian claps loudly as the gold makes her choice, "Oh that
was wonderful. Xemyth, what an interesting name too."
On the sands, Jhenni's hand falls away and she's left awe-struck
and dumbfounded again. "Oh oh /oh/." But this time she does find the
words. "Oh my belle Izzy -- oh what's her name? Oh Ysabel. Oh my."
Okay, so they aren't very erudite words, but they are ofered with an overwhelming
sense of love. "Ysabel and Xemyth. Oh oh /oh/."
On the sands, Kalina tugs her hand out of the one that holds it,
using both hands to try and tidy her hair, and stop it from clinging to her
neck. Her feet shuffle, and she smiles-- Ysabel's Impression is duly noted, her
head inclined forward, although she worries her lip with her teeth.
Roltan smiles, "A beautiful gold, to be sure."
On the sands, No sooner has Divya returned to the Sands then
Ysabel announces her lifemate's name. She hurries over to the new pair and
says, "Congratulations, Ysabel, to you and Xemyth both. Shall we go get
Xemyth her first meal?"
Terrilia's eyes flick toward Kaelyn, still smiling. "Is she?
Good for her, then." She points at the gold and her new lifemate for
Tirien, though it's probably not necessary.
On the sands, Merwen atcually forgets her anxiety for a moment as
she cheers for both Geridon and Ysabel. She smiles and then glances around to
see if anyone else she knows is left. Seeing a familiar face she steps closer
to close the ranks.
On the sands, Kirana stretches out her hand in an instinctive
gesture, and draws in on herself a little as she realizes nobody is left to
hold it. She holds her head up, though, chin high. Ain't over yet, and she sees
eggs left unhatched.
On the sands, One of the older girls from Misty Hold, known as
Ilese, seems frightened by all the activity even though she was one of the
loudest earlier on in the barracks to decry the sands as a scary place. Turning
around and around she eventually finds herself almost against one of the warm
cavern walls when the Where Babies Come From Egg finally starts to crack. When
a dragonet of a subtle minty green color emerges from the egg in question Ilese
finds herself too busy watching the shimmer of the dragonet's hide to be
afraid. As the dragonet teeters unsurely forward the girl does as well and each
meets the other at the halfway point in a loving embrace of arms and wings.
Jacera smiles at Terrilia and nods. "I think she's a good
choice, yes."
Kassima squints down towards the Sands. "Xemyth? And--Ysabel,
did they say? Can't say I recall the name, but good for her, either road."
On the sands, Jel watches a girl, not a classic beauty for sure,
Impress one. "Congratulations, Ysa." It seems he has found his voice.
For where he was silent earlier, now he is all good cheer. Since his mom
sighting. He laughs with Jhenni. "Perfectly said," he teases her.
On the sands, Ysabel nods slowly to Divya, a huge grin
transforming her face. "Xemyth." she repeats once more. "Of
course, we'll get you something to eat." She beams at Jhenni and Kirana
before following Divya, one hand reaching down to caress her lifemate.
Kindre shakes her head. "I don't believe I had a chance to meet
her, either," she admits and smiles. "Look nice a nice pair. And
Xemyth? A very fine name indeed," is added.
On the sands, Jhenni steps back from her Ysabel, the one she knew,
and turns to Jel. "Shushup. There's dragonets to impress -- or not -- and
I can be happy for m'friends." She tilts her head, "I might even
manage to be happy for you."
On the sands, Divya shudders slightly at the echo of a draconic
buugle echoes down the passageway, but soon enough the noise abates and her
abused ears recover.
On the sands, Nabolese Wherry Egg shivers on a bit more then
stills, but there is still that tapping. More cracks spread out till it looks
as if there can't be much left holding it together. Then, all at once it seems
as if the egg hesitates, a moment, before the small shards shower down on the
recent inhabitant.
On the sands, The darkened Nabolese Wherry egg has finally
released onto the sands a humble looking brown dragon.
On the sands, Humble Hooded Brown
Though of modest size, this brown seems to hunch down a bit - as
if trying to be unassuming about his stature. Not the handsomest dragon ever
clutched, perhaps the crouching is an innate awareness of his looks, which
could be politely described as plain or more accurately termed as dowdy. His
shading aids, somewhat, in casting such an impression of politely shy
withdrawal; deep mahogany covers him from headknobs to hindquarters, as if
wrapping him in a dark robe. Creamy blonde streaks toward just over his worldly
gaze from under the dark hood - there, it blends with the pale russet hue that
reaches up from his muzzle. Similar streaks of russet echo in the brindle
patterning on his wing spars, his strong looking legs, and his tail.
On the sands, Makai says "Look another brown!"
On the sands, Spinning once, The Shadow Clue Egg ends its haching
act with and explosive split in half, a largish green spreading her wings
immediately upon being free. The dark green coloured hatchling stalks around
the grounds, looking for the right person. Her eye look past a older lad to a
young girl standing behind him, she croons and races towards the girl,
forgetting there is a lad in the way, she knocks the lad over and races towards
the girl, her eyes the purple of love. The girl says her new lifemate's name in
a cheerful voice, scratching the greens eye ridges.
On the sands, Makai says "And a green!"
Terrilia hmms, tilting her head slightly as she watches the newest
brown. "Reminds me a bit of Teria's Jazeth, there. Hope his temperament's
not the same. We only need one Jazeth." Her smile brightens at the green's
Impression.
On the sands, Kaneda stares at te Humble Hooded Brown hatchling
with wry amusement. "He's kind of .. plain," he remarks to the nearby
Candidates, one hand to his chin as he observes the dragonet shatter its egg
and begin its stumbling dance across the sands.
On the sands, Kalina casts the new brown an almost hopeful
glance-- she's immediately disappointed by the green from The Shadow Clue Egg,
face falling just a little more as one less hatchling is left for her to hope
for. "I knew I wasn't--" she beguns, just to be nudged by her
companion: "There's still hatchlings left!" Kalina nods, hesitantly,
watching.
On the sands, Hound of the Bakercraft Egg begins to rock, still up
until now. Suddenly is begins to rattle wildly, as if the dragon inside was
frantic to get out as it hears its siblings do likewise. Then, the egg is still
again.
Tirien giggles and nods his agreement with his mother, bouncing.
On the sands, Carianna ohs lightly as the brown and green are seen
then her voice joins the others that congratulate the girl impressing.
"Seems to be alot of greens and browns this clutch Makai." she
comments lightly.
On the sands, Kirana arches a brow. "Yer want them all ter be
handsome? Ain't gonna be pretty for long, come Thread," she notes.
"Beauty ain't as important as brains," she says meaningfully.
On the sands, Jel had done his all not to glance at his favorite:
that dark, elegant egg, the Nabolese Wherry Egg. But, for all his effort, he
saw it hatch. And what it holds floors him. "Not what I expected," he
says. And that's that. This youth won't pay court to ugly. "I change my
mind about my favorite," he murmurs to Jhenni.
On the sands, Merwen seems to droop a little from the heat, her
hair hangs flat as does her robe. She rubs her hands off against the material
again and watches the newest brown with deep curiousity.
On the sands, Makai nods, "Lots of redish browns too."
On the sands, Kaneda laughs at Kirana as he does his own hot-sand
shuffle, absently agreeing with the lass as he looks again to the Humble Brown
hatchling. "I suppose yer right, after all," he drawls, watching
himself lest a dragon come running towards the cluster of Candidates in an
effort to Impress.
Yashira eyes the humble brown hatchling, and then declares - wait
for it - "He has charm."
On the sands, Jhenni is holding out for some more blue, but gives
the hatching brown an investigative glance. "Wasn't that the egg you
wouldn't let me like, Jel?" And then, as he abandons it, "I'll take
it then. Nice egg. Good dragonet. You're not ugly, don't listen to Jel."
Kassima asks, though now she's the one to not look away from the
Sands, "Teria's? She's U'yn's lady of sorts, isn't she? Hmmm... I like
this brown, methinks. The color's unusual."
J'nas grins at Yashira's description of the newest brown.
"From this vantage point, I'd even say he has character."
On the sands, Fussy, fussy, fussy. Cracking the egg and sending
bits of shell all over the place? No, that simply won't do. Instead, the It's
Elementary, My Dear Candidate Egg hatches little by little, a dainty green beak
slowly and painstakingly chipping away at it until a neat hole is made. With a
ladylike little warble, the occupant steps out onto the sands, looking around
at all there is to see. Not even hunger makes her forget her manners--she
imperiously makes her way to a freckled lad and butts his chest with her head,
informing him that she is ready to eat--right now!
On the sands, Makai says "I think they are all beautiful in
very different ways."
Ember twists her head a bit to see if she can spy who mentioned
U'yn...well she recognizes Kassi, anyway, and cheerfully waves.
Yashira glances over at J'nas with a grin, nodding. "Charmy
ones usually do, yeah. Good to see you again, J'nas. How're things at
Fort?"
On the sands, Hound of the Bakercraft Egg picks up shaking again,
the red "eyes" on its end almost seeming to wink ominously in the
light of the glow baskets. This time the rocking is methodical as the ragon
inside tries to get out.
Kindre grins and bobs her head at Yashira. "I like his
coloring quite a bit. Mayhap he'll prove to be charming! Do you know any of the
other Candidates besides Geridon that are still on the sands," she
wonders.
Terrilia nods over toward Kassima, grinning. "You could say
that. Her Jazeth is a bit...playful. A handful." Smirking in amusement,
even.
Yashira shakes her head at Kindre. "Not a one," she
confesses.
Roltan continues to watch the hatchings and impressions,
"'Reaches will have some strong dragons added to the ranks..."
Jacera looks at Terrilia and grins. "Playful being the kind
term for it?"
On the sands, Hound of the Bakercraft Egg rolls, the red eye
blotches buried in sand. *CRACK*...and the egg breaks apart spectacuarly.
On the sands, Where the Hound of the Bakercraft Egg once was there
now stands a small and pompous looking blue dragon.
On the sands, Pompous Methodical Blue
Not a single variation of color mars the light azure blue of his
hide, it is perfect from his oddly egg-shaped head to his perfectly
proportioned tail. In fact, the only slight discoloration isn't flaw, it is a
dark, almost black symmetrical curl on each side above his maw. Portly in
stature, he is on the short side, but carries himself with great dignity, his
head always perched a little to one side. Each methodical movement he makes
seems designed to conserve as much energy as possible. Apparently, athletic
pursuits do not appear to be this dragon's strong point. The neatness of his
appearance is almost incredible to view, a speck of dust would likely cause him
more pain than a threadscore, mon ami.
On the sands, Humble Hooded Brown sits in that pile of shard, for
only a moment. A fellow needs to get his barrings before rushing off and doing
something foolish. He shrugs off the egg bits as if he hardly notices them,
though as he moves forward he seems to take one bit with him and he begins to
search about.
On the sands, Kirana edges away from that egg. It's been looking
at her the whole time. She swears. Really!
J'nas replies, "I'm happy to say that things are nice and
quiet around Fort." He eyes the Telgari brownrider. "There's
something different about you."
Kassima supplies for all that she wasn't the one asked,
"Carianna, but she's the last." Ember's wave is brightly returned,
along with a bright smile; then, to Terrilia, "Oh, so? The Weyrlingmaster
must love *that*--but better a playful handful than a handful in other
ways."
On the sands, Carianna laughs as she watches the next impression.
"You tell him." She calls out encouragingly to the green dragonet. A
nods is passed to Makai as she moves to join him. "They are, and very
entertaining too. It will be fun watching them in the next few months to see
how they mature."
On the sands, Makai says "Oh look at him. He's the classic picture
of a blue!"
On Chaedanth, Kandri reaches up and runs a hand through her hair
as she stares out at the sands. For now she is quiet, not even making any
grumpy noises.
Yashira gestures to the bulge at her midsection. "That's an
understatement. Pregnant, J'nas. Five months along - that little window where I
can go between and actually /leave/ Telgar Weyr." Someone sounds grumpy.
On the sands, Jel shakes his head, a sardonic twist to his lips.
He laughs, "Well, you're free to like it now." And Jel exhales,
sighing, letting his eyes roam. To other eggs. To other dragonets. To other
candidates. He looks for beauty. Life is short. Jel prefers things pleasant to
things real. "That new blue is better."
On the sands, Kalina's eyes don't rest for very long upon any of
the hatchlings-- she appears, instead, to be watching them all, yearningly
searching for something special. She winces at the heat, uncomfortably
shifting, her head shaking at some muttered comment to her companion.
On the sands, With a resounding crack, the Treasure Map Egg splits
in half from the struggles of the richly colored green inside. One half of the
egg rolls off down from the mound towards the candidates. This seems to be a
good plan and the green takes off after the half an egg out into the midst of
the candidates. This one decides to spend some time showing off her wings
before she spots a young miss from Tillek showing off her blonde curls with a
flip of her head. That was enough to draw the green's attention and moments
later impression is made between the two show offs.
Terrilia coughs softly and nods to Jacera and Kassima, her smirk
even more pronounced. "Exactly. Jazeth seems to have an...offbeat sense of
humor. From what I've heard. Teria has a hard time with him sometimes."
Hearing the calls of blue, she quickly looks back and grins.
On the sands, Samron perks up as the pompous blue hatches, "I
really like the color of that blue!" he says in an excited voice. He tries
to stay alert, not wanting to be caught unexpectedly by any of the sharp claws.
On the sands, Kirana just makes sure she has room to run, should
some dragonet decide to go /through/ her instead of around her. Sweating a bit,
she tries to rub her brow with her forearm, but it doesn't help.
Ember gives another casual drawl to J'nas, when she isn't
interrupting his conversation, "Fort is only quiet because you are so
often visiting elsewhere."
On the sands, Pompous Methodical Blue sits there a moment,
seemingly /appauled/ at the mess. If he knew Hatching was going to be
so...so...dirty, with all that sand and such sticking to him, he would not have
bothered. However, one thing there was not in that egg was food. Good, chewy,
bloody food. The blue's eyes whirl with red as he finally decides to step
forward, almost grimacing as he is forced to step on yet more unclean sands.
J'nas' eyes open in surprise. "Congratulations, then. May I
ask who the father is?" He nudges Ember with his elbow. "Duties, my
dear friend. Duties."
Kassima aims a *look* at Yashira. It might be more effective if
she weren't stifling laughter. "I did give permission for you t'take time
from your remaining duties t'fly straight, didn't I? Look at that blue! I like
him! I'm nay sure why, but I do. Mayhaps he'll be Carianna's, though i'truth I
haven't clue one." Peering Terri's way, she just has to ask, "What
sorts of things does he do?"
On the sands, Jhenni prefers things honest. "I don't know. I
mean, certainly he's blue and therefore lovely, but there's far more character
to the cowled brown there." Jhen focues on the two dragonets that seem to
be taking their time. "Not that I'd complain about any lifemate that might
want me." Its her runny nose, she knows it is. "But ..." She looks
around, all the way around. "Not so many of us left now, is there?"
Jacera giggles softly at Yashira and Kassima.
Yashira's lips quirk, and she nods to Kassi. "That you
did." She looks over at J'nas again, inclining her head. "M'silne -
blue Phoukath's rider. Don't think you know him, unless Mirarri's told
stories...?" she sounds skeptical.
Ember coughs. From the nudging. Uh-huh. Never mind the frown of
chagrin at such a question, "How couth."
Terrilia turns and blinks at Yashira, taking a better look. She
smiles sympathetically at the brownrider, briefly, her hand stealing toward her
own stomach, then grins at Kassima. "Oh...squash trundle bugs, like
throwing up firestone, play with his food...and other things. That sort of
thing." She shrugs, wrinkling her nose. "Oh, and splash cold
blueriders who are trying to bathe their dragons, of course."
On the sands, Kirana overhears Jhenni's last comment.
"No," she comments forlornly.
On the sands, Merwen swallows roughly and sneaks a glance at
Samron as he comments. She nods her agreement, "He is a lovely blue, maybe
he'll come this way." and then falls silent again, eyes wandering back to
her favorite egg that still remains unhatched.
Roltan grins....
Yashira inclines her head to Terrilia, returning the smile with a
small one of her own.
On the sands, Carianna watches the blue as he steps on the sand
then glances around the sands trying to predict who it will go to. "Its a
good thing we've no marks out here to bet with." She murmurs to the
candidate closet to her.
On the sands, Jel is definitely a sensitive, as hard as it may be
to believe. He has to be sensitive, to offend so easily. So he, perhaps bored,
extends a reassuring hand, and squeezes Jhen's shoulder, if she lets him.
"At least you're not alone."
On the sands, Humble Hooded Brown seems to gather up a bit of the
sand to join that bit of shell. More of the clues he might need to figure out
this new place he's found himself in. Oh, but what are these. He stops and
surveys the gathered ring white things from where he is. Now these rate a
closer inspection! So off he goes, eagerly checking over each as he heads down
the line.
Kassima laughs outright at this answer. "Playing with the
food, that I can sympathize with only too well--but *like* throwing up
firestone? That's... unusual. Mayhaps he'll grow out of the splashing bit.
Though some dragons never really seem to. The first time Semeth Searched
Kaylira, he spit Spring-water all over her if'n memory serves."
J'nas shakes his head. "I haven't met M'silne.
Congratulations again." He turns on Ember, "What?"
On the sands, Kirana eyes the galloping brown. "Hey Jhenni,
get ready ter move!"
On the sands, Pompous Methodical Blue starts down the mound
towards the remaining Candidates, tail lifted to keep from gathering more sand,
and wings as tightly to his back as possible. Most dragons immediately try to
dry their wings, but to do so risks shards on the membranes. Finally he reaches
a clearer, cleaner spot and stands there, red-whirling eyes taking in all he
can. Maybe over there, in that group? He waddles in that direction.
Terrilia snorts and shakes her head, grinning back at Kassima.
"Like I said, a handful. Cy'd splash me if I'd let him--I do let him, in
summer. But he's got sense enough to know I want to stay warm in winter,
anyway." She glances toward Yashira and J'nas again briefly, listening,
then back toward the Sands.
On the sands, Jhenni is surprised enough by the gesture that she
blinks. Twice. But then reaches up to pat pat Jel's hand with her own.
"Not yet, no." And the dragonets are watched more carefully with
Kirana's warning. "Not yet. But even if I am. I was a high Reaches
Candidate. And today is a /good/ day to Stand." She said it before, she
says it again.
Yashira shifts her weight from foot to foot, murmuring about her
bladder.
Terrilia turns his head and snorts at his rider with great
dignity.
Cyameth turns his head and snorts at his rider with great dignity.
(even)
On the sands, Kaneda grunts as the Humble Hooded Brown hatchling
passes from one to another Candidate. "What is he doing, a line
search?" the dark lad complains amiably. "He looks like G'non was
earlier!"
On the sands, Kalina shifts her feet, an almost hopeful glance
made towards the hatchlings, dropped again as she rubs at the sweat on her
arms, and her face, shifting uncomfortably.
On the sands, Jel is on alert, having just snagged Kirana's
warning. He withdraws his hand from Jhen, remembering who he is ... and who
-she- is ... and glances at that humble brown. There's a look of worry on his
face. "I pity the person he finds," says the sailor. "What a
mess."
Kassima mutters, rolling her eyes upwards towards her own
lifemate, "Lucky you. *Someone* seems t'think I appreciate having snow
dumped over m'head in wintertime." Lysseth doesn't even bother looking
innocent; she's still busy humming. "Yash, are you going t'make it through
this?"
Yashira is doing a little shuffle pee dance. "Wanna make a
wager on it, Kassi?"
Abbe climbs up Eveyth's side nimbly, reaching her appropriate spot
on the green's neck. Abbe slides into the riding straps, adjusting them before
takeoff.
Abbe has left.
On the sands, Jhenni is used to Jel's erratic shifts in mood and
cannot help chuckle. "I think they're lovely."
On the sands, Kirana arches her brow again. "Says you,"
she mutters. Visibly (and literally) biting her lip to keep from being rude,
she just tosses her head, making the heavy braid swing.
On the sands, Makai holds his breath as the brown starts checking
over each candidate.
Jacera eyes Yashira for a moment. "I don't think /I/ want to
put any marks on that..."
Terrilia snorts herself and chuckles, though her smile's
definitely sympathetic. "There you go, someone'll wager with you, Kassima.
Even if it's not precisely on the Hatching."
Ember opens her mouth as if she were going to reply to
J'nas....but she doesn't. "I do believe I am actually beginning to thaw
out. It's nice, isn't it?"
Yashira shuffle shuffle shuffles, eyeing Jacera for a moment.
Kassima makes a face. "I'd rather nay. Because if'n I bet
'twill nay wet yourself, then I daresay *'twould*, just for spite, and I don't
even want t'think about that. On the other hand, if'n I bet *'twill*, mayhaps
m'gambling luck will kick in and you still will. You've a point, Terrilia, but
there are some wagers even I balk at. Where's that blue headed now?"
J'nas eyes Ember suspiciously for a moment before accepting the
subject change. "I think all of these dragon bodies are helping out. I
don't think I'll complain to much about them lazing about in the sun ever
again."
"I'm actually thinking of slipping out," Kindre remarks
to Yashira. "Indar hasn't been sleeping well so I try to wheedle him away
from the nannies in the eves," she explains. "And it's getting to be
about that time."
On the sands, Pompous Methodical Blue suddely seems indecisive.
No, that boy is too...messy. And so is that girl. So fretful is the blue that
one, two, three more people are Impressed until he is one of the last
hatchlings left ont eh sands. He approaches his dam's rider...maybe she is a
bit neater? No, a boy. A boy that is over there hiding in the shadows. Maybe
him? He must take a closer look.
On the sands, Carianna watches along with the others as dragonet
makes his way down the line. Though Jel gets a curious look and she asks,
"What makes you say that? He could grow into that hide of his and become
the envy of many."
Yashira nods to Kindre. "Eh. I'd just have to step out
somewhere for a quick little spray or something."
On the sands, Jel tells Kirana, "Definitely, says me,"
looking wry. And then Carianna gets a barking laugh for her question. "No
one can change so much. You either got it or you don't."
On the sands, Humble Hooded Brown pauses as he reaches a group
that seems to shy back from him.. Ahh, now here. Here is what he's been looking
for! He studies this bit of the line closer, But which one is it? No, not that
one, or that one there--THAT one. He starts forward again, stopping in front of
the graceful, auburn haired one with a joyful croon. He's the one!
Terrilia shakes her head, still grinning as she waves to Kindre
and turns back toward the Sands. "I'm not sure I would've believed
it...Hard to say, really."
Tirien is still watching, but his eyes are beginning to droop and
he's slumped back against his mother, fingers in his mouth.
On the sands, Jhenni has enough to move back, yet again. Out of
the way, and out of -- oh /my/ what a pairing. "Well you got it now
Jel", she says laughing with amusement, and delight. "And serves you
right, too." But there's honest delight there too, and the pleasure of his
impression.
On the sands, Merwen looks over at Jel as his comments reach her
and then looks to the brown who seems to have impressed regardless of his looks
on the sands. She smiles a bit and then rubs her hands at her sides again.
Kindre can not help but laugh outright. "Spray? Hee,"
she says and then waves to several folk before heading towards Herath.
"Clear skies and y'all enjoy your eve. Duties!"
Kindre gives Herath a soft, loving pat on the side. Humbling her
oft high-held muzzle, Herath dips close to the ground and Kindre half-steps,
half-tugs herself up with courtly ease. An unusally easy and contented glint is
in her eyes as her lifemate bestrides her.
Kindre has left.
Herath leaps off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, she swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Herath has left.
On the sands, Kirana grins maliciously. "Serves yer
right," she says. But she is grinning anyway. "There ya are."
Yashira waves to Kindre as she departs, then resumes her little
dance.
On the sands, J'l is frozen with momentary horror. And then those
eyes meet his, the prettiest thing about the dragonet. And the sailor sinks to
his knees, breathing, "Iosketh, yes." Though the boy is not so far
gone as to not pick at the bits of sand and shell that sticks to his friend.
Appearances are important!
On the sands, G'non can't help it...there's a certain wry cast to
his smile as he approaches the newly-Impressed pair. "Congratulations,
J'l, to you and...Iosketh, is it? If you'll follow me, I'll show you where you
can get him fed and oiled."
On the sands, Carianna laughs softly as she watches the
impression, but she uses all her will to fight back the words that come to
mind. Instead she simple bows gracefully to J'l, while her eyes twinkle with
laughter.
On the sands, Pompous Methodical Blue finally stops, looking up at
a boy who isn't so tall, who maybe isn't quite as neat or clean as the blue
might want. However, there is potential there, potential...as soon as the
Hatchling is fed. He'll feel better with food in his stomach...and a bath.
Definitely a bath. The now Urynth peers up at Samron, poking him in the hip
with a blue muzzle.
On Eveyth, Abbe has disconnected.
Lillian grins as another pair find each other on the sands below,
and then another. Her poor cheeks will never recover.
On Chaedanth, Kandri pats Chaedanth on the shoulder lightly.
"Come on love. We've got transports to see too at Nabol. Maybe we'll get
to visit for awhile too," She says. One more glance given to the sands and
then those on the ledges before the brown takes off.
Chaedanth rises up off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Chaedanth has left.
Y'il grins, looking around. "Well, I guess that's it."
Verenth peers down as the last of the eggs become Hatchlings, who
in turn locate lifemates.
On the sands, J'l tears his eyes from brown Iosketh to stare at
G'non. "Ah ... yes ... sir." And with one last swipe at his lifemate,
must get that dragonet clean, he rises to follow.
"Oh, there--brown and blue," Terrilia says, beaming.
"Don't know their names, though." Her eyes sweep the Sands for any
more eggs or hatchlings, and she slowly gets to her feet, shifting her sleepy
son carefully.
On the sands, Jhenni watches J'l and get led away and turns to
Kirana. "M'thinks we're being abandoned, Kira." She shuffles closer,
hot-tired-exhausted but all aglow with the excitement of the day. "Poor
Iosketh. Or should that be poor Jel?"
Tirien has left.
Terrilia carefully picks Tirien up.
On the sands, Amilin simply arches a brow as she watches, before
moving to help another pair.
Lillian nods, giving a delighted sigh of content. "Oh, and
over so soon." She glances over at Y'il, her eyes dancing, "Thank you
and Aquileth for bringing me, Y'il."
Catalina vaults up to Nisanth's neck as the brown rumbles softly.
Catalina has left.
Nisanth watches Catalina as she vaults to his neck, swiveling it
around to croon at her once she's safely mounted.
Nisanth launches off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Nisanth has left.
On the sands, Urynth nudges his lifemate towards the exit
passageway, where he can smell food and /hear/ others eating.
On the sands, Matheny covers her mouth with one hand to hide the
chuckle as the young brown impresses to his choice regardless of anything else.
She leans over and whispers to S'rist before stepping forward and away from her
enthusiastic looking lifemate.
On the sands, Kirana shrugs. "Knew I'd be left." She
hrms. "Well, I guess I gotta go get m'runner out o' th; stables an' catch
up ter the rest . . . hmm. In Boll, probably, by now.
On the sands, G'non escorts Samron and Urynth back to the
passageway, as well.
On the sands, A large winged bronze hatches forces it's way
through the tough shell of the Ten Little Holders egg, emerging snout and
foreclaws first. The small cluster of five candidates around the egg draw back
to give the dragonet room, the two boys stopping to let the bronze get a look
at them and the three girls slowly moving away towards other eggs. The bronze
bugles loudly and moves forth to take a close look at first one and then the
other of the boys present. For one moment it seems as if the dragonet will move
on in search of other candidates to inspect but at the last second one of the
boys, the lad from Keogh Hold, gives a bold cry of dismay and the dragon looks
back and into his eyes. The remaining boy turns around to look at the rest of
the sands, searching with his eyes. And then there were none.
On the sands, Kalina's face is set into a mask if disappointment,
but not surprise, as she realises that all the eggs are gone; she shakes her
head, sighing quietly. "I knew it," is her only comment, "But
it's okay."
On the sands, Kaneda watches Kirana with quieter yellow eyes ..
for all he talks of not wanting to Impress, not wanting to be a 'rider, there
is still a lingering bit of regret that lodges in the back of his mind. But now
.. here, on the sands, surrounded by shattered shells, he realizes, he can go
-home-.
On the sands, Carianna turns as she catches Kirana's words then
makes her way closer. "Don't be so quick to head off Kira. The snow is
deep and there is still a banquet of food to be had."
On the sands, Makai sighs resignedly, watching the pairs of
Weyrlings leaving the sands. He stretches a bit, amber eyes contented and
smiling. "That was fun," he murmurs gently, waving congratulations to
those leaving the sands. He turns to look at the remnants of eggs with a smile.
On the sands, Kirana hrms. "Well, I might stay fer
dinner."
Yashira squints at the last little bronze, and then turns to head
for Decarath. "Gotta take a leak," she grunts.
Yashira climbs up onto Decarath's back.
Yashira has left.
J'nas straightens as the last of the Impressions takes place.
"Well, I'm going to have to take some Harpers home. Do you need quick
ride, Ember?"
On the sands, Merwen smiles over at Samron as he follows off his
dragon, "I never heard what he said." she smiles though, glad for him
and the others and trying not to think about her own state now as all the eggs
seem to be shards now.
Terrilia sighs as she turns from her last look. "Guess you
should've taken me up on that bet, Kassima." She waves after Yashira and
smiles at Kaelyn and Jacera. "Good to see you both, or meet you, as the
case may be. I should head home, too--Tirien's nearly asleep already."
Kaelyn takes Jace's hand once more.
Kaelyn nods and smiles to Terrilia. "Nice to see you again.
Hope to see you soon"
Jacera smiles at Terrilia and waves. "Clear skies to
you." She grins and waves at Yashira. "Good luck making it to the
necessary."
On the sands, Jhenni manages a grin at Carianna. "I can't
even imagine eating. But I do want to hear how the day went for others. And see
m'family if they made it."
On the sands, Kaneda wanders out into the great space of empty
sands, now that all the dragonlets have Impressed, and picks through the
shattered shards of shells before finding one little piece that catches his
eye.
Y'il smiles at Lillian and slaps his gloves on his leathers.
"We berst get back to Ista," he notes.
Ember startles and nods, "Yes, please!"
On the sands, S'rist looks across the sands, seeing that all the
eggs have hatched, and the pairs ushered off the sands, offers his arm to
Matheny and starts making his way across the sands to the candidates remaining.
Lillian smiles over at Mallea, "Would you like us to deliver
the message about your sister to M'llon, or would you like the oportunity to
tell him yourself?"
J'nas thumps Hanreth on the shoulder before reaching up for the
straps. "Hope you enjoyed yourself."
On the sands, Amilin follows the final pair off the sands.
J'nas climbs up Hanreth's forelimb, and finds a secure spot
between his neckridges.
J'nas has left.
Jacera smiles at Lillian. "Would you please pass word on to
him for us? I'm sure he'll be overjoyed to hear."
Terrilia makes her way back toward Cyameth carefully, smiling at
Kaelyn and Jacera. "I hope so--Clear skies!"
Mounted on Decarath, Yashira waves to J'nas and Ember once she's
finished strapping herself in. And then she's checking airspace, and she's off.
Decarath rises effortlessly off of the ledge and into the air.
Crossing the cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Decarath has left.
Lillian looks over to Jacera and nods, "Of course we will.
Clear skies." She turns to smile and nod at Y'il, "Whenever you're
ready Y'il."
Roltan walks over to Sh'yar, "Mind if I get a lift
down?"
Terrilia nimbly climbs up between her lifemate's neckridges as
Cyameth rumbles happily and helpfully offers a foreleg.
Terrilia has left.
On the sands, Matheny looks over the shards and then nods to
S'rist in agreement and steps forward to take his arm and walk towards the
remaining candidates. She raises her voice so that they can here it, "We
are sorry that your own lifemates were not on the sands today but have heart,
for you are all a brave and admirable group. We hope that you will stay for
dinner and think a few days about joining us here at the weyr full time. We
will also provide rides home for those of you who wish to leave us."
Y'il nods. "We need to go back."
Mallea smiles at Lillian, "Zsofyth told Bromith the moment I
saw it, thank you... tell him I said hello there and will visit soon."
Ember climbs up Hanreth's forelimb, and finds a secure spot
between his neckridges.
Ember has left.
Hanreth rises up off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Hanreth has left.
On the sands, Kalina inclines her head, a short nod made to
indicate that she's listening to what Matheny has said, although her expression
is mostly impassive.
"A fine Hatching 'twas," Kassi decides as she
straightens, tucking her hide into her belt pouch; vertebrae pop as she stands
and stretches. "I'truth, Terrilia, I should have--" The bluerider
gets a doubletake, and the greenrider adds, "...And felicitations, by the
by, if'n they're due." With that, she climbs aboard her own impatient
mount.
Sh'yar smiles and nods, "By all means sir, Gyreventh is right
over there."
Kassima climbs up to Lysseth's lower neckridges with the aid of
the riding straps and the green's thoughtfully offered foreleg. She gives her
lifemate a fond pat on the neck once she is aboard.
Kassima has left.
Lillian nods, slipping off Aquileth's forelegs so she can mount
after Y'il. "I will tel lhim."
Atop Cyameth, Terrilia blushes at that from Kassima, hurrying her
strapping and preparations. "Um, thanks, Kassi. Clear skies!"
On the sands, Jhenni listens, too, still one big adrenalin rush of
emotion.
On the sands, Kirana appears to be taking it all calmly. Maybe too
calmly.
Y'il is lifted by Aquileth's foreleg until he can grasp the
straps, swiinging the rest of the way up
Y'il has left.
On the sands, S'rist nods, "It has been an honor to have you
all here to stand on the sands for us, we do truly appreciate the time from
your lives you've given to Pern and the weyr."
Lillian is lifted by Aquileth's foreleg until she can grasp the
straps, swinging the rest of the way up.
Lillian has left.
Cyameth leaps off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Cyameth has left.
On the sands, Carianna begins to imitate Matheny's and S'rist's
statements and actions silently. One can only guess she's heard this speech
before but should he turn her way she stops and smiles sweetly pretending to
listen.
On the sands, Kaneda stands with the others, head tilted, still
attempting to make sense of all the goings-on that have whirled by so quickly.
On the sands, Makai nods as he thinks about what to do next.
Aquileth springs powerfully off of the ledge and into the air.
Crossing the cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Aquileth has left.
Lysseth spreads her wings to their full extent, bringing them down
with a rush of wind as she leaps nimbly into the air.
Lysseth launches off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, she swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Lysseth has left.
On the sands, Merwen listens and then looks around, not even able
to think about what she will do she waits to see what the others will say if
anything.
Sh'yar hops up onto Gyreventh's back, using his straps as
handholds.
Sh'yar has left.
Jacera squeezes Kaelyn's hand and smiles. "Shall we head down
to partake of the celebrations?"
Kaelyn smiles and nods. "That would be great"
Kaelyn climbs up onto Nepenth's back, using his straps as
handholds.
Kaelyn has left.
On Nepenth, Kaelyn has arrived.
On the sands, Matheny smiles sympathetically and then says,
"You don't have to decide anything right away. Please join us at the feast
and relax away from the sands."
Roltan walks over to Gyreventh, "Thank you muchly."
On the sands, Makai nods and starts to head out.
Roltan jumps up onto Gyreventh's back, as the dragon warbles a
greeting.
Roltan has left.
On the sands, Kalina nods, turning away slowly.
Gyreventh springs powerfully off of the ledge and into the air.
Crossing the cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Gyreventh has left.
Jacera clambers up onto Nepenth's back, as the dragon warbles a
greeting.
Jacera has left.
On Nepenth, Jacera has arrived.
On Nepenth, Kaelyn smiles at Jace. "Hold on dear"
Nepenth rises up off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, he swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Nepenth has left.
On the sands, Matheny gestures towards the galleries, "You're
all free to go." she smiles sympathetically.
On the sands, Carianna chuckles as she heads up the stairs two at
a time.
On the sands, Carianna heads up a short flight of steps to the
galleries.
On the sands, Jhenni hesitates long enough to scoop a bit of of
shell from a few of the eggs she remembers -- the friends she will hold them
for -- and then trails out after the rest. "Oh what an amazing, amazing
day."
On the sands, Jhenni heads up a short flight of steps to the
galleries.
On the sands, S'rist smiles over at Matheny, "Well, shall we
go to the party and see who came to watch the hatching?
Zsofyth launches off of the ledge and into the air. Crossing the
cavern, she swoops into the tunnel, leaving the hatching grounds.
Zsofyth has left.
There's no place like home....
