Unlike the Ninja Turtles and Splinter, Kurai was not changed into her current self by accidently stepping into mutagen. Almost two decades ago, the
now defunct corporation GenInc. began experimenting with animal and human DNA. While most of their experiments failed, there was a handful of
successes. Kurai was one of them. About five years into the project, the government found what GenInc. was doing. The CEO of GenInc., a scientist by
the name of Dr. William Johassen, set the laboratory on fire, burning all the evidence. Only Kurai and one other mutant survived. Kurai escaped to New
York City, hoping to start some kind of life there. Everyone who looked upon her were either frightened or disgusted, having not seen anything like her
in their lives before. Everyone, that is, except a man named Oroku Saki. He took her under his wing, immediately accepting her into his growing gang
called the Foot Clan. Throughout the years, he trained her in way of the martial arts; Wushu and Ninjitsu especially. Her feline attributes help her to be
naturally nimble and agile. Although she doesn't like to admit it, Kurai knows that she is nothing more than a prisoner and a tool to the Shredder.
