Professor Poppy

There was a back-up in the door to the Herbology room. The kids in the back pushed and stood on tip-toe to see what the commotion was about. In the front, many of the first-years were slowly, reluctantly, moving into the room, their eyes glued on the tiny man standing on his desk at the front of the room. One of his arms had disappeared into the maw of an enormous, spiky-looking plant sitting on the floor by his desk. As disconcerting as this sight was, the arm’s possessor was stranger still. Professor Poppy had spent several years studying deep in the jungles of the Amazon, and the experience had had no little effect on him. Vivid tattoos depicted various rituals and symbols on every exposed piece of skin, and his long carrot-orange hair was pulled back with a brilliantly feathered headband. “Come in, come in, please. I’ll be with you in just—OOF!” The mouth of the plant opened, and the wizard went flying backwards off the desk. After a moment of concerned silence, his head reappeared over the desk, wreathed in an enormous, pointy-toothed smile. “Welcome to Herbology! This is my most recent project. His name is Pip, and he’s a Brazilian Bladderwort.”
