Many Neopians have heard tales about a large and feared beast called the Monoceraptor. It existed in the days before any Neopets existed on Neopia, the days where the world was desolate and volcanic. Living deep underground, the Monoceraptor has been planning a return to the surface for many hundreds of years... Some neopets say that this creature was destroyed long, long ago and others say he has yet to return to the planets surface but I know all too well that this "thing" really exists and did at least come back to the surface once and you could say it's the reason I’m here today...
I was born in a small village a couple miles from Meridell. I had a pretty normal childhood growing up and there was a lake by the village I loved to hang around at with the other kids from the village, this place was pretty much my most favorite place in the whole world.
Anyway, my story takes place a couple months before joining up with Matt. It was pretty early one morning, (before the sun even came up) I guess I had a bad dream or something because I couldn't sleep. I got myself out of bed, got dressed, and since I was up I headed down to the lake to watch the sunrise.
It was still pretty dark outside. I could even hear the crickets in the field. When I got there I found a large tree and sat down under it. Sitting under the stars and listening to the calming sounds from the lake were pretty relaxing and I dozed off...
A few hours later I finally woke up. I was a little disappointed that I missed the sunrise but I figured I could just see it some other time. Just as I got up to head back home a mixture of loud screams, roars, and blasts in the distance startled me. I looked up to see if I could see where the sounds were coming from and I noticed smoke in the direction of my village.
I pretty much freaked out and I ran as fast as I could back home until I could see the cause of the smoke. It was that Monoceraptor thing! The thing that people thought was from a faerie tale or something!!
Most of the villagers were trying to fend off the enormous beast with little luck. The Monoceraptor was too big and too tough. When I did get back home I felt a duty to help defend my village. I was still too inexperienced in battle to have been any help but I guess my emotions took over. I had no idea what I was going to do but I was able to get right behind the sucker. I yelled out, "Eat this you overgrown sack of garbage!" and I began pelting him with the biggest, heaviest rocks I could find.
The Monoceraptor turned around and looked right at me. The beast let out such a loud roar that the ground began to shake and crack. I let out a small "Uh oh..." and I dropped everything and ran for my life. The Monoceraptor picked up its foot and slammed it down so hard the ground beneath me almost felt like a trampoline and launched right into the air. I was really disorientated and my footing wasn’t right so I slammed back into the ground so hard I blacked out...
When I woke up the Monoceraptor was gone and nobody seemed to know where it went. The Monoceraptor may have disappeared without a trace but the wake of destruction it left in its path wouldn't disappear so easily...
For the next few weeks I spend almost all my time training while all the villagers rebuilt their homes. After only a few weeks of practicing I became such a pro with a large selection of weaponry that I was even able to beat the best warriors in our village.
A couple days later I decided to leave home after hearing about the Defenders of Neopia in Neopia Central. It was a headquarters for wannabe heros to make a name for themselves by defeating and bringing back monsters from all over Neopia. I thought if anyone would know where the Monoceraptor was, they would because I wanted to get even! When I told everyone that I wanted to leave, the village elder said, "I understand that all young neopets want to leave home eventually but Neopia Central is at least four days away by foot. Are you sure you want to go that far?"
I told him, "When I get to Neopia Central I can join up with the Defenders of Neopia. I'll be able to find the Monoceraptor and get revenge."
I think the village elder understood how I felt so he dug around in his pocket and handed me an old map of Neopia. He said, "Do what you need to do and use this map to get to Neopia Central."
I took the map and went home to pack some of my things. It was getting pretty late so I decided to get some rest and leave in the morning. The next morning I said my goodbyes and went on my way.
I had been gone from home for about a day and I had to admit traveling for the first time made me pretty nervous especially since I've never been further then Meridell. The route was long and boring, it was even harder since I had to do it all by foot. I was on day four and I still couldn’t see Neopia Central, the village elder said I would be there by now but I knew I was definitely lost. I set up camp for the night and also to try and figure out where I was. I was studying my map when this little puppyblew showed up. It looked pretty hungry, "Are you hungry? Do you want some food?" I asked.
I just sat there wagging it's tail so I gave it some food. The puppyblew finished its food and walked away so I decided to get some sleep. The next morning when I woke that puppyblew I fed was sitting right by my feet. "You're still here? Hey I know! Do you think you can you help me? I'm trying to get to Neopia Central, do you know where it is?"
I wasn't really expecting a response but it seemed to want to help me. I packed my stuff up quickly and let the puppyblew lead me to Neopia Central. While I was walking I thought it would be a good idea to name the puppyblew.
"I guess if we're gonna hang around each other I should give you a name. How about Nemphis? That sounds pretty cool!" It seemed to take a liking to that name so that's what I named him.
I finally reached Neopia Central thanks to Nemphis but once again I had no idea where I was. I was asking the local Neopets if they could tell me where the Defenders of Neopia HQ was and I was given the directions. When Nemphis and I got to the Defenders HQ I asked about the Monoceraptor but I was practically laughed at by everyone. I even told them what happened to my village but they still thought I was crazy, nobody would believe my story about the Monoceraptor coming back.
I was pretty bummed out by the whole thing but I knew what I saw, I remember it like it was yesterday. Nemphis and I sat down next to the Rainbow Pool and I guess I looked pretty depressed because a guy walked up to me and said, "Do you guys need some help?"
I looked at him and told him, "Yeah but you probably won't be able to help me."
He asked, "You never know... I might be able to do something."
I told him about my village and the Monoceraptor.
He said, "I've heard a ton of stories about it but I've never actually seen yet."
"What do you mean by 'haven't seen it yet'? Who are you?"
The stranger said, "Oh sorry, I should introduce myself first. My name is Mattblasto and two neopets and I work with the Defenders of Neopia. We have an airship and basically we fly around Neopia and make sure everyone is safe."
I wasn't really sure what to make of what he said so I just stared at him. Matt asked, "So, do you want to join up with us? I'm sure sooner or later we'll run into the Monoceraptor."
"Well, the whole reason I left home was to join the Defenders of Neopia and find the Monoceraptor. You've been the only person to even seem to care about my story so... of course I'll join you guys!"
Matt seemed really happy about my answer and said, "Awesome! It'll be nice to have some new companions around."
"We should probably get going," Matt said, "follow me. I have my airship docked just on the outside of Neopia Central. We might have another mission from the Defenders of Neopia. You can also meet everyone else."
I had never seen an actual airship before so I was pretty excited. We headed towards the outside of Neopia Central until we got to the airship. The three of us climbed inside and Matt led us to the ship's deck where two other neopets were standing. A large bulky Grundo walked up to us and said, "Hey! I'm Poopiebutts, I'm pretty much the group's mechanic," He seemed friendly enough.
I looked at the other neopet sitting in the corner and asked, "Who's that?"
Poopiebutts said, "That's Macross. He's a pretty quite guy. Don't worry, he's not being rude, that's just the way he is."
Just then a radio massage starting coming in from the Defenders of Neopia HQ. Matt rushed up towards the conrol panel and pushed a button and the message began to play, "...We've just recieved word of a disturbance on Mystery Island. We need any available teams to head down there and settle things out," the message ended.
Macross got up from his seat and said, "Finally... time to battle..."
Matt said, "On Mystery Island? I doubt it. It's probably just a meowclops stuck in a palm tree."
We arrived in Mystery Island but the big disturbance turned out to be a little slorg going around eating food from the Mystery Island Kitchen.
"This is hardly worthy of our attention," Macross said.
"This isn't so bad..." I added.
Poopiebutts set up a small trap to catch the slorg but it turned out we didn't need it because it just slithered right up to us.
Poopiebutts picked it up, "What the heck? Why is it red?"
"It's probably because of all the weird food it's been eating here," Macross explained
"Well, we can't just leave it here. It's obviously not welcome. Let's just bring it with us. It seems pretty friendly," Poopiebutts said.
"That slorg can keep Nemphis company. If you're gonna bring him with us shouldn't you give it a name?" I said.
Poopiebutts started laughing, "I'll call him Zippy! He's obviously too fast for the people here to catch him! Ha ha ha..."
Matt filled out the report of what happened for the Defenders of Neopia HQ as we all got back on the airship (Zippy too), Matt started up the engines and we took off. When we where up in the air Matt turned to me and said, "Well that mission was a little lame but dont't worry they get more exciting."
I laughed and said, "Okay..."
"So I guess we're done for the day, let's just head back home," Poopiebutts added.
"Home? Where is that?" I asked.
"Neopia Central," Macross said, "...we've got a hideout there. We can stay there until our next mission."

If you would like to see the layout of our hideout click HERE.
Our full address is: 140450 Neopia Avenue, Neopia Central Number of floors: 1
We've now got a hideout in Neopia Central! There were many great places to build a home but Neopia Central seemed like a more practical choice since many important places are located there.
We've named our hideout Skull Mannor since it kind of looks like a skull from high up. Don't let the look of the house fool you, it may look like it was built with wood but in fact the center of the walls are plated with very tough (and thick) armour. If another war ever broke out our hideout will serve as a perfect bomb shelter and a battle fortress.
Our hideout features four personal quarters, a lounge, a mess hall, private gardens, and a hanger for the airship. Visitors are always welcome unless we are on a mission and in that case our robots are put on "Security Lookout Mode" and if any unwelcome guests show up they will be removed by force, if needed.
This room is pretty much were people check in to see if they are allowed on the property. This is one of the rooms where our security system is working the hardest and it's not uncommon to see several robots patroling around here.
This is our Kitchen and our Dining room, not much else to say about it. Most of the time we aren't always home so having a home cooked meal is pretty nice.
This is where most people hang around when they come to visit since most of the seating is here. During holidays like Christmas we will set up our Christmas tree here too.
This is my room! Lately I've been adding Kauvara stuff to my room and it's starting to look really cool. If I ever have extra stuff I usually put it in the lounge for everyone else to use. Nemphis stays here too.
Here's Macross's room. He doesn't really like anyone in it, he really values his privacy so if you really have to see it just take a peek and don't stay in it too long. Macross seems to be a big fan of Spooky and Furry type furniture.
Here's Poopiebutts' room. I don't see him in it much because he's always in the hanger. Sometimes he'd rather sleep in the hanger than his own room. Zippy stays in this room too.
Our Airship can't just stay outside, somebody might steal it so we've created a room specially for the airship. Poopiebutts and Matt can make repairs or add upgrades there and the roof even opens up so we can land in it.
