The House of Lissësúl The House of Lissësúl was established around 700 PR, only then it was the House of Ruaidh. The House of Ruaidh, for a very long time, hailed as the most powerful elven house in the Amefri region, perhaps even in all of Szurane at the time. On the other hand it didn't really have much competition at the time. Sure, there were other houses, but they either were too small to be much of importance or were eventually linked and assimilated by the House of Ruaidh anyway. The family was huge and controlled the High Elven world. Unfortunately, when the title of head of the house was handed down through heritage, it was only a matter of time that it was handed off to an asshole. Around C 2000 the house was split into three seperate branches due to a difference in political views. The main and most powerful branch retained the name of House of Ruaidh. The other two were the House of Tarek and the House of Lissësúl. The House of Ruaidh would be considered your conservatives. They resisted change and held religion dear. They still consider themselves morally superior to the "traitor houses", but that's simply a matter of opinion. They have loosened somewhat over the centuries in regard to foreign policy, but still remain frigid for the most part. The House of Tarek would be your liberals. They saw the superiors of the House of Ruaidh as selfish, greedy and power-hungry, and too attached to the past. They wanted to share the land and culture with the Bai'Hu / Ch'i'lin Ebons whereas the House of Ruaidh did not. This is the primary reason why the House of Tarek came to be and they were the ones who first traded with the Bai'Hu / Ch'i'lin Ebons. The House of Lissësúl fell somewhere in between the two. They were willing to embrace outside races with a healthy amount of caution but felt it was necessary to still revere the ancient spirits, old rites and sacred places. They were more interested in simply keeping the balance of nature and communing with it and wanted to keep away from the power, greed and politics that plagued the house in its later years. They're the embodiment of the treehuggers, I suppose. Nereus's father was disowned by the House of Lissësúl and exiled from his village for murder, but not before he stole their prized sword Einarr. After all, if you were already convicted of murder, why not commit another crime? The House of Lissësúl did not practice the death sentence, believing one's time came when it came, but they did have standards to hold up to. This means Nereus is not legally connected with the House of Lissësúl because of his father's mishap, but he does share the Lissësúl blood required to use the talisman within Einarr. The House of Lissësúl desperately want the sword back, but not many of them feel comfortable with leaving the security of their forest homes... "I have a message for you. It is not a message for your ears – your heart must listen, and your spirit will know its truth. Do you wish to hear it?" ~ Mage, the Ascension | |
