This episode opens immediately after “The Feast of Black Annis” with Number 42 getting a migraine and getting some bed rest. Three days later no one has heard from him, but Thomas, Charles and Ruth arrive. Charles takes Ruth to the hospital, while Alex and Thomas help find 42. It appears that he has slept through the last three days and has had a strange dream. The brief reunion is interrupted when some Wolf Ferals burst through the door, leaving it splintered. During the brief fight, one of the Wolves is killed, a Tiger Feral knocks the wall down and enters the room; its mouth is covered in blood. The fight is swiftly finished, but not before Leonie is wounded by the Wolves. Alex pops his head through the wall and suggests they want to see this. In the next room over, a female has been wounded, killed by the Tiger. Alex suggests that he takes Leonie and Leopold to the Threshold and on to the Twilight World to stop the Feral Curse, on anyone who has been infected and return the female’s spirit to her body. While researching Ferals and the Death Realms, a prophecy writes itself into the book, which is recognised by 42 as relating to the Nightstalkers mythology.

When the balance is shifted between the light and the Dark One

Alex suggests that he and Thomas (who can’t leave the Earth anyway) stay here and work out the prophecy. Alex begins the ritual and effectively tears the spirits from Leonie and Leopold’s bodies, and transporting them to the Death Realm. Upon arrival it is revealed that Leonie was infected, and her spirit begins to show the signs of it. Alex has his ‘game-face’ on. After travelling for a while, the group are attacked by some Spiritual Gang Members, who wish to send Alex, Leonie and Leopold to Hell instead of themselves. Unfortunately for them, they are really not built for fighting and swiftly had their butts exorcised. At this point, Leopold learnt how to exert his will on the Threshold, summoning a horse, on which he and Leonie rode to the portal, while Alex sped along beside them.

Meanwhile on Earth, 42 had another dream one that he remembers more clearly, and as soon as he starts telling Thomas about, he sees with perfect vision the viewpoint of another victim. He begins investigating the location of the Temple that he has seen, but things don’t go so well for him. He spends a portion of the day trudging through the sewers, followed by Alex. While down here he meets a pair of cultists, who worship him as one might a god. When he attempted to kill them, they offered their souls to their master and combusted. 42 told some of what he knows to Thomas and the two returned to the hotel. They noted that 42’s room had become Tainted, and that a gateway had been opened. They then used the computer to investigate the location of underground caverns or tunnels.

Meanwhile, in a ruined echo of Bradford, on the Twilight World, Leonie, Leopold and Alex appear, Alex now resembling a Turok-Han, while Leonie started to look like more like the Wolf, clothing straining with the muscles that grew. Leopold willed a gun into existence and the crew headed to the University, the location they had determined of the female’s spirit. On the way, they ran from a Reaper. When the arrived at the Basement, they discovered it resembled the aftermath of the bombing Marcus inflicted on the place, a year prior. Here they were attacked by the Feral spirits, who appeared to be protecting the younger member of the pack. After they were dispersed, Alex and Leopold set up the ritual, quickly as both the Slayer and the female were rapidly changing, both had torn out of their clothes, merely with muscle power alone. The ritual succeeded and the animal spirits were exorcised, the group quickly returned to physical bodies (where available) just in time for the big fight scene.

Alex noted that a portal had been opened in the room, multiple times, and suggested that he might be able to reopen it. After scouting a better location for the end point, Alex opened the gate, which was greatly stable, but worked with minimal side effects:

Alex closed the portal and joined the group in the cavern, where they were infected with a hallucinogenic drug, and 42 was put into a trance. While the rest of the group confronted 30 cultist, 20 of whom were vampires, Brigit, Black Sorcerer, and the 10 foot tall Nightstalker demon, 42 made his way to the Altar, where the Sorcerer strapped a naked female, whom Leonie and Thomas recognized as Wanda, the Slayer who fought with Marcus. The Black Sorcerer began channelling Taint from the enhanced Nightstalker (who the cast nicknamed 626) and Essence from 42. After a large fight scene, Wanda woke from the trance, and pulled the mask from the Black Sorcerer, which was terrifying enough to make both her and 42 collapse in fear, and gain a Madness point. Leopold summoned Alex, who told the group that Wanda was Tainted, and more. He opened the portal back to the hotel, saying that he wanted to be sure before telling them anymore. This time side effects were as follows:
