Vala, planet of the tree-dwelling Valari and the Raaka with which they bond.... The main continent is covered with immense Taeri trees, which are bases for the majority of plant and therefore animal life on the continent. But the ground, miles below, danger stirs - and the creatures of the earth forever yearn to see the sun, and possess the upper canopies as their own homes....

~Middle Canopy~

-Vala City-
Vala City is the only real city on the planet, and over 95% of the population lives here. Located in the Middle Canopy, it spreads over 12 square miles and has three distinct "tiers" of Taeri branches. Due to its many platforms, bridges, and the rope ladders between tiers, not to mention the guardianship of the Raaka and their Hai'dien riders, it is the safest place to live on all of Vala.

-Outside the City-
On the edge of Vala City is the Hai'dien base, where Hai'dien and their bonded Raaka live and train, and young or unbonded Raaka will come to look for Valari to bond to. A bit further out is the Corathi Refuge, where the often anti-social guides may rest away from the City. Other important landmarks, such as the Watertree and the Orchard, dot the outer fringes of the City - and of course, as you venture further out, you enter the untamed and unoccupied territory that most of the Middle Canopy consists of.

~Other Levels~

To range into the Upper or Lower Canopies is to invite danger of different sorts, and it is not uncommon for deaths to occur there (particularly in the very lowest layers of the Lower Canopy). And a descent all the way to the Ground Below is rarely survived by any but the strongest of Valari, in both body and mind. If you're going down, I strongly advise that you arrange to be accompanied by a Corathi guide... the lower regions are their area of expertise, after all.
