Vampire's GifT

Petty sat at his table in his room leaning back in a chair, boredom apparent on his face, in front of him laid open his rune-covered book. The runes complements of Rebekh and somebooks they had 'acquired' now making their home in stacks around the room as the bookshelf was filled.

Glancing around the room, Petty took a thoughtful in drawn mouthful of musty air and settled his eyes on Shadow Vein and smiles. Shadow had been a friend most of Petty's moorgateian life, and looked contented to spend his days sleeping under a roof now that he was not as young as he was once.

Petty wondered what dreams flowed through the head of Shadow as he sleeps, dreams of feral life, running free? Dreams of being the head of a pack? Or dreams of a big juicy bone? Petty chuckled a little at the last thought, he did seem to be content looking as he normally is after eating. Secretively Petty hoped Shadow dreamed of him, his friend. Petty questioned the possibility of this, Shadow was a wolf, perhaps he did see Petty as pack master, but as a friend!? He wasn't sure, but stuck to the hope that he did have some sense of friendship towards Petty.

"Good evening!"

Petty didn't even look up to see who it was, he already knew, even though he didn't hear the entrance of this more than regular visitor, he wasn't scared or startled by her abrupt outburst which was called a greeting any more.

"No hello back? Oh I see!" Smiling Rebekh looks over to Shadow and back at Petty sloughed in his chair and giggled "and how are Moorgates two most cutesy eligible bachelors this splendid night?"

Pettys slight groan only added to Rebekhs enjoyment as she stood giggling to herself.

" Silly me! I have someone to say hello to you"

This caused Petty to raise his head from watching Shadow Vein

"I hope it is not a pet again….Shadow had stomach problems for weeks after that"

Rebekhs hands shot to her hips and she huffed out "Not nice to eat my pets" then gave the sleeping Shadow Vein a scornful glare.

"anywho! I don't think he can eat this one!" a evil grin crossed her face as Petty groaned again

"So it is a pet?"

"Yes! But, more than a pet!"

"…."

Warily, Petty watches Rebekh, he had seen that look before and dislikes what it could mean, though, being Rebekh it had a lot of meanings. She was a little unpredictable to say the least, bouncy and dizzy but dangerous, he couldn't underestimate her. He had seen damage she could cause in a blink of an eye, turning a half-ogre to a block of ice just for grabbing hold of ones backside is not a thing easily forgotten. Still he was unsure of her intentions towards him, she had tried to be kind, Petty was certain of that and Rebekh even had got upset sometimes when things she tried didn't work out, but still, where did she go to rest from the day? Who did she know? And more importantly what? It was a fact in Petty's mind that she was not dumb, far from! The work she had done on his book showed a little towards that, she had talent with things to do with magic, but when did she learn them, where? Petty came to the conclusion that she was a mystery and was hidings away something.

"ok! Remember, don't be alarmed" smiled Rebekh

"…fine" replied Petty with a lot more apprehension than he wished

A ear piecing whistle rang out across the room, waking up Shadow vein with a groan and causing Petty to cringe a little with the pitch and suddenness of it and it emitted from Rebekh. The whistle stopped and allowed silence to blanket in, unnerving silence, which always followed loud noises like the world, wasn't sure what to do next…

An eerie rustling made its way around the room. A distant flutter of gigantic wings borne on an icy wind seemed to travel from ages long past to materialize silently in the room.

Wide eyed Petty peered at what now sat in front of him, it was a bat no doubt about that, but a colossal bat, Petty roughly guessed it's wing span would been about 6-8 foot, there is stood. A pale outline glowered around it and Petty had great difficulty to keep it in focus, he saw through it also! But something in his head wouldn't believe it was here now, more an after image from a glare of the sun but it was here!

Beside it stood Rebekh, a triumphant smile plastered across her face.

"Say hello to Crepusculum aliger "

"….What is it?" disrespectfully asked Petty, not sharing in Rebekhs joy

"IT!?….poor girl! She! Is called Crepisculum aliger! Or Creppy! And She is a or was a Giant bat, now more a phantom bat! Kinda sorta stuck between death and life! Like me kinda, she is smart too! Doesn't always need to do all that fancy entry stuff! She was showing off and makes a nice little get about! I was thinking.…that maybes you could…like, have use for her, maybes just so you don't have to clamber up that roof again when injured or something like that….." Rebekh's voice trailed off as she stroked a hand through the bat and shuffled a little

"….why would I want a bat?"

"……doesn't eat anything"

Petty stood and wondered about the problem, she could be right, a bat could help, no feeding, no mess. And it does seem like Rebekh loves it.

"hmm, won't you miss her?

"Ooh! But I won't need to! I can come visit her here!" Rebekh smiled, a slight sign of sadness showed through not matter her efforts to contain it

"Ok! I will, take her"

"Goodies! Oh!! You just need to whistle or shout her name, she very good girl!" Turning to her bat, Rebekh began whispering in it's what Petty took as her ear, as his eyes still were not allowing him to focus on the Phantom bat.

Petty turned a thoughtful glance over to shadow who seemed surprisingly happy with the macabre visitor. But He had become very accustom and worriedly warm towards Rebekh over the time she spent here. Perhaps he can sense that the bat has some bond with Rebekh thought Petty as he leaned back stretching out.

"Ok! She understands!" Rebekh said turning back to Petty

"You talk to it?"

"We understand each other"

"…."

"Well…want to go for a ride?"

"Now?"

"Yes, now"

"…not sure about this"

" Don't worry! She is very good with me"

Maybes that is because you are dead, you can actually focus on it..I can't even seem to do that

"Something the matter" Enquired Rebekh

"..Nothing, tired! Perhaps another day

"You should rest! We can do this some other night, I have to go!"

"..that is a bit big to live in here"

"Oh! She doesn't live here!"

"Where does she live?"

"Not here" Rebekh said darkly then smiled "somewhere else, off you go Creppy!"

Turning back to the Phantom Bat, Petty rubbed his eyes to try to focus on it as it appeared to be gone, after a few seconds, Petty realised that indeed it had gone.

"….and why….." Looking about again Petty also saw that Rebekh had left too, silently. With a shrug Petty turned back pulling a book from a near by stack and turned it to a book marked page and begins to read.
