Arriving back to his home after some weapon training, picking up a few books which Rebekh had defiantly said he MUST get, buying a couple of bottles of blood.
Rebekh had always tried to push herself harder than she needed with not drinking blood, on occasions she had got near frenzy with blood lust but yet to lose control completely.
The bottles of blood were to help with this and a second problem, Rebekh had got a depressed over the need to feed off others a few times before and it wasn’t helpful to Petty to have a sulking Vampire about.
Not one to forget about himself, Petty had also picked up a few needed items of food he needed to live and a bone for Shadow Vein.
Entering his home, Petty couldn’t help but blink at what he saw, all around the room were candles, each one near identical. The heat of the room wasn’t much more than normal the cold draught of the night air chilled the room and caused flames to flicker and shadows to dance hypnotically around the room. In the middle of the twilight’s candle display sat Rebekh, crossed legged and smiling happily over at Petty.
"Isn’t it pretty?" dreamily stated Rebekh
"…..Why all the candles? And I brought that stuff you wanted" carefully replied Petty, unsure of Rebekh
Rebekh just smiled and softly spoke "Come sit down next to me"
….This is unnerving, but it is only Rebekh, she seems to be enjoying it
Petty blinked and placed down the things he had brought, removing his coat, Petty thought better of throwing it across the candles to his bed which was occupied by a wolf.
Oh…..grrrr, that is going to take a while to get into sleepable state, all them hairs…..
Petty shook his head and placed his coat down with all the items he had acquired on his shopping trip before walking forward towards the centre of the candle ring.
"Sit sit" ushered Rebekh, a serene beam curving her lips.
Petty complied and sat facing Rebekh, her eyes seemed to hold warmth and caring which her body couldn’t show, deep dream filled green pools, shining with joy, but still opening the world to her wisdom, age and frailty.
"The candles have a good reason to be, all in good time and you will learn" Spoke Rebekh, her voice a hushed whisper, tranquil, relaxed almost unheard like a distant voice carried on the wind but reassuring and calming.
Petty nodded a sense of calm passed over him here within the candle ring.
"All things have a energy" began Rebekh "every plant, every animal, every creature. This energy is felt by those who let it touch them, just thinking produces energy, this is the reason for candles, candles by nature are receptacles of energy, they bring about such a large range and are easily manipulated, drawn, pulled, pushed by flows of energy.."
As Rebekh spoke, she didn’t move, didn’t even blink, only moved her eyes around the room as to guide Petty.
"These flickers of the flames are normally dismissed on the wind or draughts, this isn’t untrue, just the wind are energy of being and thought.. Magic uses these, we weave and create, some others destroy…
But the magic you are exploring is creative, protective, the ones to use the energy of all to do good.. Naturalistic magic is it named by some, yet names mean nothing, you could call it what you will, it still does the same."
Rebekh smiled deeply and gazed into Petty eyes "do you understand so far?"
Petty nodded.
Rebekh carried on smiling as she nodded.
"Not all things are learnt through books, practise can get you so far, but feeling and being within the understanding of something can be the truth path to accomplishing it to new heights, this is forgotten by most, Power is not to control just for arrogant gain.."
Rebekh placed her arms forwards, palms facing upwards
"Place you hands above mine, just not touching"
Petty gingerly did as Rebekh asked, placing his palms face down, just about Rebekh’s.
"Touching is a physical thing, most can feel, but, you don’t need to be in physical contact to touch others.. There is spiritual touching, touching of a soul, close your eyes and think about energy flowing from you out of your palms"
Petty closed his eyes, feeling a little silly but still he attempted to do as Rebekh had asked. Starting from his mind, Petty imagined a energy, it coursed along down his spine, down his arm and reached his palm, there is flowed out to Rebekh.
The moment where it flowed out of him to Rebekh, Petty felt something else flow into him, a calm and peacefulness, but not his own, something filled with love and compassion but fear tainted it also.
Opening his eyes, Petty looked across quizzically at Rebekh
"What was that?" hastily asked Petty
Rebekh smiled "That is sharing of energies, yours and mine, everyone has these energies, not all are as pleasant, but the atmosphere here helped bring them towards pleasant.
These are the energies which we send about in thoughts and feelings.. These are the energy, which govern us. These are what you need to control, feel and weave to improve curative magic."
Petty nodded trying to understand what Rebekh was saying.
"There is different levels of ability with all magic:
First comes the chanters, those who are not intone enough to create their own spells, but enough will to invoke them with words, this includes those who use scrolls as well as committing to memory. Scroll casting is a little different, the scroll its self is embedded with the spell and this limits the use of the scroll.
The next level are the invokes with thought, those who can draw out spells with concentration, these may still chant just for concentration purposes but their magic is greater than the first but a great strain on the caster so a high training in concentration and energy control is needed.
The third are the weavers, those who pull strings of energy, twist them, manipulate the very being of the lands and form spells from them. This is the most powerful of the three, the energy control, concentration and inner understanding for this is great and few can obtain this level of understanding and skill and be great at it. The weavers set in place a lot of the spells people invoke with chants.
Then there is a fourth black sheep, the borrowers: these are the people who draw in energy from others for themselves, though this ability can be of aid to healing a great illness or for channelling energy to invoke a powerful spell. Some borrowers do this unaware, they have no way to hold onto their own energy or control it and lich off others, then again there are some who learn to do this for their own gains, Energy Vampire’s you could say…."
Rebekh blinked and fidgeted at the mention of Vampire’s, obviously uncomfortable vampirism, and being one herself didn’t improve the problem.
Pulling herself around, Rebekh smiled "Any questions so far?"
Petty sat and blinked, when he was done blinking he blinked again and finally nodded.
"Why do people get drained when casting spells again?"
Rebekh couldn’t help giggle, she had a student, give it was a mature students but she loved seeing Petty wishing to learn and asking questions, gave her a purpose.
"Thing to remember is, energy is not created or destroyed, only changed. This could be questioned and have twists of that rule, but for the most part it is correct. Firstly, where does the energy for spells come from? The very being of the caster or in the case of borrowers, from things around them. This is used to change into the spell, so to heal a wound the inner energy is used to mend and nit the wound, greater the wound, greater the energy needed, greater the spell, greater the energy needed. The energy depleted in spell casting is regenerated after time, but this is taken from nourishment and other energy inputs."
"How do people heal through weaving?" Petty enquired after
"Well, everything is made of energy, this energy is what weavers use. The healers who weave take strands of the persons energy and weave it, removing bad strands, fixing broken strands and generally making the persons energy correct again, this is for the most devastating wounds and illnesses though."
Rebekh smiled once more as a wolfish yawn broke into her next sentence and then Rebekh chuckled.
"I think that is a very good place to finish this lesson, my student, you go do something I have to clean up"
……student!? I guess she is correct, I am never going to live this down though..
Petty nodded, getting to his feet and slowly made his way to retrieve his coat.
"and don’t forget to read pages one to five hundred in that book you got today"
Petty groaned slightly
"…….very well! And I brought you something in a bottle here too"
"Goodies! I love presents, You really do love me don’t you!" Giggled Rebekh as she shuffled about the room blowing out candles.
"………"
"Not going to stand there all year are you?"
"No! I’m going" Petty finally said putting on his coat and leaving his room to the devices of a Vampire and ageing wolf.
