High above Moorgate, above a cathedral stood a dark
man, wind blowing two large forward falling tufts of hair to the side as the rest
of his long snow white hair laid down his back in a pony tail
Motionless he stood, looking out towards the causeway and what was beyond,
around him life went on, only light to been seen from houses and touches carried
by the Night's Watch as the moon itself slept this night
Petty was thinking, reflecting on events which brought him to where he stood
this night, not all pleasant but all necessary to be here, Changing it never
crossed his mind, He liked what he had, what he had done, where he was going
Stopping in his thoughts Petty gave himself the time to look himself over,
Black was the major colour of his armour, but it was more than just good looking,
it was practical, allowing maximal protection without giving away mobility or
stealth
As he had done time and time again Petty quickly removed two concealed blades
from his wrist sheaths and sheathed them again, no noise was heard, blackened
blades removed the chance of a gleaming weapon giving away ones position
Petty took comfort in that, and lot of other things he had learnt from the
guild and a lot of extra lessons from Vengeance, Petty would go as far as call
him his Tutor, but the path Vengeance has taken was not the one Petty wishes.
But he had taught him a fair bit, which would help with his path to become an
Assassin
Stealth, ability to be unheard or seen, Instantaneous killing, swordplay and
ability to use a larger range of weapons including this Dirk as Petty thought
this he ran a hand across the handle of his Dirk in it's sheath by his side
and continued thinking
A wider range of poisons a lot more deadly and faster
acting as he knew before, and even his own physical self was improved, not buff
and developed like Barbarians but more compact and trained to act fast and precisely
to the things he would encounter or do in his life
But it wasn't over yet, thought Petty with a slight grin, He was still training,
harder day after day, though today he was having a break from physical training,
tomorrow would hold more challenging challenges but greater rewards
A clatter caught Petty's attention as he twirled round to see what it was but
it was only a cat knocking over a bottle
Reaching into his pocket, Petty pulled out a item which identified him as a
member of the Whispers, though Petty shyed away from groups, this one had him
enticed, they wished to find power, and Petty knew to get power you need Knowledge
or gold, both being the better, Knowledge is also what Petty wished for, for
Knowledge brings power which bring safety, so Petty thought. All he wanted was
to be safe, and if he had to swallow some fears, so be it! He would not stop
in his pursuit for no-one, and the whispers seemed to be a nice way to get to
knowledge, Other than that, Petty really didn't care what plans they had, if
it helped him, he would support them till he knew all he could then maybe he
would find something else to gain knowledge by.
The sun started to poke its head over the horizon, as Petty turned to leave
he remembered something someone had not long ago said to him
"I search you out so I may bring light to your night so that you may see
the wonders of the world" Whispered Petty to himself
What made people like the light so much? What did it hold which he couldn't
find in the shadows? This intrigued and scared Petty, turning back Petty stood
and awaited the day, so maybe he could see what makes the young lady say what
she said
As time pasted anxiety in Petty rose with the sun, night turned to day and
Petty remained, fear plastered his face, yet he stayed determined to see what
was wonderful with the day
Worried faced, Petty scanned around the alien world before him
"Enough!" Thought Petty as he turned away to leave and sleep in his
bed along side his Wolf, "Nothing was seen to please me, nothing which
I want to see!"
As he walked in the spot where he stood landed a beautiful bird of multitude
of colours, violets, reds, greens, the whole rainbow! But Petty walked on unaware
to his bed
Slipping into his room, Petty stepped into a veil of complete darkness and proceeded
to cross the short length of the room and light a candle by an open book.
A rather disgruntled wolf yawned from his sleep and looked at his owner with
what could have been a look of despair before curling up in an attempt to sleep
once more.
"Sorry dear friend, had something to do," whispered Petty as always.
Looking around his candlelit room, Petty nodded to himself. Even though it
was day outside, the window was covered in so much dust and grime that no light
made its way into the room Petty lived in, much to Petty's satisfaction.
Turning his gaze to the book on an old wooden table next to the only light
source in the room, Petty sat down and started to flick through
.A lot
had been added to it since he liberated it from a life of dust collecting on
his bookcase. Now it was positively bulging with facts and notes of rogue-like
skills, but still it was being added to. The section on assassination held diagrams
of different species, areas marked off, and notes beside each one for the best
means of dispatching it. Petty took pride in the fact that not only are notes
from rogue tutors present but Petty himself had added his own notes and diagrams
of creatures he had encounter in his 'travels' around the lands of Cosrin. Still,
he knew that there was a lot more out there to find and learn from.
Thoughtfully tapping his finger on a diagram titled "Lich," Petty
looked on in despair at the lack of markings and notes. Never had Petty encounter
a Lich to learn ways of killing it. Petty knew that even if he had killed one,
he wouldn't know all the ways of death he could inflict on it, for how do you
learn how to kill something multiple times if after the first it is dead and
no longer a useful experimental subject? Petty cringed at the many hours he
had spent trying different blows on hapless creatures, their cries of pain and
the satisfaction of killing one in a single blow.
Flipping through more pages, Petty turned to the section about Poisoning, where
recipe after recipe filled the page. There were notes on creatures of Cosrin,
which held poison, and a new area detailing the natural resistance of various
creatures to poisons. There was no diagram in this part, just the creature's
name and what appeared to be its resistance to poisons. Petty was filled with
delight at the work he had so far done, but still he wanted to know more, not
just of death but now of the lore of the Immortals of Cosrin.
Turning to the index, Petty removed a quill from a drawer and wrote Immortals.
As he completed his arcane markings, he saw the ink shimmer, then fade back
to normal, leaving only a smell of magic and a slight tingle of ozone in the
air, as a new page appeared in his book.
Petty shook off the air of magic with a dismissive toss of his head. As always,
Petty turned to check that, indeed, the page had been created and that, indeed,,
was nicely titled "Immortals.
Only recently had Petty discovered this convenient ability of his book to create
a fresh page for him as soon as he'd filled the last one. Petty had to enjoy
this, it saved on paper.
Turning his mind back to the matter at hand, Petty sighed. His knowledge of
Immortals was limited--he knew the names, but not much else, He remembered asking
about Senrania from a shamaness who followed her, and indeed was smiled upon
by the goddess, but he had got no reply. Anger filled Petty at the memories:
the fact that the healer seemed more worried about the motives of a unseen questioner
than interested in telling about her deity. He recalled that the shamaness had
merely asked him to show his face, and then failed to reply to his earnest requests
for information.
Sighing Petty scribbled down the name "Senrania" and closed his book.
He would have to find others to ask, and even seek out books to learn more about
the Immortals.
Yawning Petty glanced longingly at his bed, then turned and
went outside...
