The years have begun to wear the hero Beowulf down and many times his mind has dwelled on the friends he had lost. In the recent battle against a balor Beowulf lost two of his friends and made it out with only two others and himself living. From that day on Beowulf decided to hang up his sword and settle down. No more would he see his friends die as he led them into battle against some demon. His surviving friends Kilara and Gimblus let their friend settle down in peace all though Gimblus for many months argued that they were still needed and one day Beowulf would regret his decision for settling down.
A peaceful time passed after this. Monsters were a common occurrence all over Hardell and attacks were not uncommon but even with this a sense of peace fell over the land. The darkness and evil Beowulf and his friends fought so hard to get rid of seemed to have left the land finally. Everyone on the mainland of Hardell were not prepared for what suddenly happened though. During the night many months after Beowulf had retired a great storm hit the land. It's thunder shook the land and the lightning rained down on the land. People barricaded themselves in their houses and waited out the storm that had suddenly hit. After two days the terrible storm dissipated. The people were overjoyed to find in the morning that the storm had passed. The people found a new terrible thing shortly though. A small distance outside the Shining City of Hardell a great dark area had appeared. No light seemed to penetrate this area and no one tried entering it. You could not even see into the dark area.
For many months the people just avoided the area and all was back to normal or close to normal. One day though riders going to the Shining City of Hardell were attacked by strange creatures that came out of the Darkness (now called the Shadow Boundary). The creatures were said to look like large snake-like creatures with human heads and six arms which each held a weapon. It was no secret now and the people knew that once again darkness had fallen upon the land. The people looked to Beowulf; who even after his promise of not fighting evil again, did his best to defend his home (the Shining City of Hardell) from the evil. Fearing his people would become angry if he did not do something Beowulf called the people of the Shining City of Hardell together and talked to them.
Beowulf, "People of Hardell and other places that are here today. I have devoted much of my life to fighting the darkness and have helped you countless times. In these times you all look to someone for help, to defend you and be your champion. I stand here now to tell you that you must stand for yourselves for once. This is the time for new heroes, new people to fight for the cause. I, Beowulf have my home to fight for but will not lead more friends into battle and see them possibly die. Any who step forward will receive my support."
The game is 3.5ED D&D. Characters start out at 4th level and you roll 5d6 and keep the highest 3, nothing lower then a 3 per stat. You get 26,000gps to buy starting equipment. At least one magical weapon is preferred. All races and classes are open. You can also take a race that would be CR value 1 without penalty. You get 4 extra skill points and 3 extra feats upon character creation. You may use all 3.5 books and resource books with the exception of the psionics book and Epic. I will only allow a psionic character IF I know you can run one without doing anything that will make me have to load up my computer disk of the handbook which takes a few to many minutes to load.
