Hyperspace: Adding Hours to Hyperspace Journeys.
The Verdict: Still in consideration.
The Argument: I submit to the panel that we finally codify the hyperspace add-on time rules. My personal suggestion would be to eliminate the add-on hours entirely as the mechanics for adding time are provided for in the increase of the multiplier for an additional +2.
The Counterargument: Adding time onto the base represents the extra time that it takes to travel to a safe route and use the safe route as the primary leg of the journey. For example, suppose a ship was trying travel from Dathomir to Brentaal, a trip from the Outer Rim to the Core. This trip would have a base difficulty of 18, asssuming that the pilot is familiar with Dathomir and Brentaal. Brentaal is on the Hydian Way, and Dathomir is not too far removed from the Hydian Way. An astrogator could plot a course to the Hydian Way and take it to Brentaal. It would take more time to complete this journey, and the additional time is a function of the inherent nature of the course plotted, not the navigation computer. However, it is not reasonable to think that using a known route as the greatest leg in a journey would reduce the difficulty to such a degree that the journey would be less difficult than one utilizing a known trade route, so it would be reasonable to limit the amount of hours possible to add onto a hyperspace trip to the amount needed to make the journey as difficult as one between known systems. Thus, a known route could not have any hours added onto it to make the astrogation check less difficult; a new route between familiar systems could have 5 hours added to make the astrogation check have a -5 DC; a new route to or from an unfamiliar star system could only have 10 hours added to decrease the difficulty of the astrogation check by -10.
Starship Dodge: Affecting More Than One Class of Starship
The Verdict: Starship Dodge will affect either class of ship, starfighter or space transport, as long as the pilot is proficient in the class of ship he is piloting.
The Argument: In the core rulebook, the feat Starship Dodge is applicable to only one class of starship. The character sheet, however, does not leave room for two classes of Starship Dodge. It makes more sense for the feat to be applicable to both starfighters and space transports. If changed, Starship Dodge ought to be usable for any ship in which the pilot is proficient, either starfighter or space transport.
The Counterargument: None.
