When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
-William Shakespeare
"Hamlet", Act III, Scene 2
The Dreaming resists easy classifications. Though some who travel its many Paths and Trods classify the Dreaming into the Near Dreaming (that which provides a spiritual reflection of Earth), the Far Dreaming (where the mythic age still lives, and the dreams of mortals and fae alike spawn new worlds), and the Deep Dreaming (where the most ancient mysteries, including Arcadia itself, can be found), such distinctions become hazy when once crosses the Mistweir and travels beyond the Waking Lands. The Dreaming is its own place, and confounds those who try to easily map her vast horizons. Indeed, some say the Dreaming is infinite, or so ever-changing that it matters not. The whole of the Dreaming will never be known to most beings... and this is just as well, for though it holds infinite delights, the lands of the Dreaming can also offer up countless terrors, dredged from the depths of humanity's unconscious. Learn the secrets of the Dreaming here, walker of the Trods.
The gates to Arcadia, the original paradise, are closed. Only the world of humanity remains. Without any awareness of our true nature, humankind crushes us beneath its banal heel. Joy and laughter are gone; only the Dreaming remains.
A Brief History
We are changelings, the forgotten ones, neither fully fae nor wholly mortal. The last of our kind on Earth, we have built ourselves an invisible kingdom. We are everywhere, yet you have never seen us. We hide, not behind some fragile Masquerade, but in plain sight, with the power of our Glamour. We exist within a real world of make-believe where "imaginary" things can kill, and "pretend" monsters are real.
Though the races of the fae are legion, ten kith dominate the Western population of changelings. Learn their histories, their powers, their flaws and failings, their customs, their secrets, and their lore here.
The
proud sidhe divide themselves into noble houses, by birth and alleigance,
which confer upon them great powers, but also exact flaws, passed down
by the power of the Dreaming itself. Five of these Houses are predominantly
Seelie, three of them have
sworn themselves to the Unseelie Court, and
one stands alone, an earth-bound House, that stayed in the Waking Lands
during the long Interregnum, and mixed its blood with mortal lines as the
commoners did. Learn the history and traditions of these proud lines here...

Gallian~Chimera
The Kithain are the best known of the Western changeling races, but they are far from the only ones of their kind in the Dreaming, or the Waking Lands. Dozens of Gallain races, those fae who are lesser known than their Kithain cousins, but are still plentiful in many places, with unique Birthrights and strange magics all their own. With them are the Inanimae, those fae who bound themselves to inanimate objects and forces of nature when the Sundering came, and the strange fae of distant lands, from the Nunnehi spirit-walkers of the Native American nations to the ancient Hsien of the Far East.
Here, as well, you will find information concerning the chimera who populate the Dreaming, invisible to mortal eyes, but a strong force in the lives of changelings and Dreamers alike.

Independents

As a connection point between the Dreaming and the Waking worlds, Freeholds and Glades serve as the nexii of changeling life. They are as diverse as their owners, and some of them seem to have a consciousness of their own, capable of speaking to the minds of the owners and acting their will on the Dreaming. Even the weakest of Freeholds serve as sources of Glamour, through the Balefires that burn within them, and the Glades allow Inanimae, Nunnehi, and other fae creatures to gather Glamour in the wild, drawing energy from their Sacred Stones.
