GM Command in Space Type colors and configuration. The GM Command Space Type features redistributed thrusters and other minor tweaks to give it better performance in zero-G environments. However, many of the stronger shock absorbers and other ground combat necessities are either simplified or removed in this configuration, so it is best kept to an exclusive zero-G combat zone.

Space Type notable differences:
Weight:
empty 44.6 metric tons; max gross 76.5 metric tons
Powerplant: Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor, output rated at 1390 kW
Propulsion:
rocket thrusters: 2 x 21000 kg, 2 x 16000 kg
Performance: maximum thruster acceleration 0.97 G; 180-degree turn time: 1.5 seconds; maximum ground running speed 120 km/h

A relative newcomer into the Federation's mobile suit corps, the GM Command is a sort-of response to the Zeon's retooling of the Zaku and Dom series. It is definately superior to older GM models, though its higher cost does leave some strategists wondering exactly how many of these the Federation plans on constructing.

The GM Command follows the usual structuring of Federal mobile suits, but takes them a step further with minor enhancements all across the board. Firstly, the original two beam sabers were brought back on this GM design, albiet they are now mounted on the rear skirt armor as opposed to the traditional backpack location. A 90mm machinegun and shield have been provided as stock for most GM types. Though the GM Command's reactor isn't quite powerful enough to arm a full-sized beam rifle, Federal engineers have finally found a suitable midpoint that is certainly superior to the Beam Spray Gun. The GM Command's beam gun is a small, compact weapon, and though it lacks the range of a full-sized beam rifle, its rate of fire is actually quite high. While still hindering it at range, it's a definate upgrade from the usual option.

The GM Command is capable of acting on both space and terrestrial theatres, though there is a sizeable downtime required for the conversion between the two. To this extent, GM Commands are usually either maintained in either a space or land combat configuration and are not usually swapped out in the field. As a means of distinguishing the two, GM Command Space Types are painted in a red-on-white scheme, whereas land combat models are painted in a black-on-beige scheme.

Due to a relatively high cost, the GM Command is not seeing nearly as much production as the more simple models, though it is expected to be manufactured in greater numbers than the pre-production RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type.

90mm machinegun. Standard issue weapon for GM-type mobile suits. It is more compact and easier to manage than the Zaku's 120mm, but it lacks a substantial ammunition supply.

Beam saber. The same sword-type weapon used by nearly all Federation mobile suits. The GM Command is equipped with two, which can be used simultaneously or act as backups for each other.

Shield. The GM's thinner armor is compensated by this large shield, which provides it excellent coverage and protection from enemy ballistics. The GM Command's shield has the added bonus of storing two extra clips for its 90mm machinegun.

Beam Gun. An improvement over the original Beam Spray Gun, it still lacks the range of a full-sized beam rifle. However, it has a relatively high rate-of-fire and is decently accurate, making it a relatively effective weapon. Its chief failing is that, through its higher rate of fire, it expends its e-cap much more quickly.
