Eccar Draven

Eccar's Tale

Born in a small village called Blackbridge to Eckain and Darma Ode, Eccar and his two younger brothers grew up hearing tales of the splendor and awesome might that was Kahzadgyax the Dwarven Kingdom that was no more.

As Eccar grew up he became interested in the teachings of the Dwarven Priest of the Village, a usually jolly Dwarf named Gloin Oarastain, a follower of Moradin the Ruler of the Dwarven Deities, he who is also called 'the Soul Forger'.
Eccar studied hard for the teachings touched something deep within his being and at the age of 50 was ordained as a Priest of Moradin. He then set out with his two brothers Edain and Gloster to visit the City of Camartain the nearest City to their small village. Eccar was hoping to find somewhere to begin a parish, though Dwarven communities were scare and usually already had a Priest overlooking the spiritual well-being of their flocks.

A chance encounter at a tavern called 'The Choked Basilisk' changed these plans however. Setting at a table in the bar the brothers were approched by a Dwarven warrior who asked them if they were going to join the struggle to retake the Dwarven Kingdom of Kahzadgyax from the foul beast Smauchadorn, a fearsome Red Dragon, and his orc followers.
The Dwarven brothers needed not to be asked twice and soon were on their way to the ruins of Kahzadgyax with the other recruits that Lord HoThor had recruited, for it was HoThor, the Brother to Balthor soon to be the King of the Dwarves that had recruited them.

The battle with the Dragon Smauchadorn and with his Orc army could fill many pages of the histories of the land of Ardkin, and Eccar and his brothers played a role in helping to clear the top levels of the mighty Dwarven Kingdom, with Eccar rising in Stature and power until he was the third most powerful of the Dwarven High Priests at Kahzadgyax under the guidance of the legendary Merlyn Toke the High Priest of Moradin Under the Mountain.

The struggle against the orcs and their many allies beneath Mount Thor in the OlThor Mountains has continued until this very day, at times slowing to an almost peace and at others blazing as if the very worst of wars. The numbers of Dwarfs within the mountain has swelled to over 300 and yet the hoard of enemies within the depths of the earth seems unlimited. Yet the brave Dwarven host have recovered all the topmost layers of their ancient home and have begun the slow task of reclaming the levels beneath... most important being the mithril mines deep within the Mountain.

One fateful day Eccar was with a warband lead by Lord HoThor on the fifth deep of Kahzadgyax, a level that had two evil and opposed temples there; a Temple to 'Vaprak the Destroyer' a vicious Deity of Trolls and Ogres and an ancient Temple dedicated to an Elder God... 'Cthulhu' a fearsome deity of olden times of whom little is known but who is widly feared. The Elder Gods Temple was long abandonded but a tangible arua of evil seemed to surround the area for many leagues. The temple of Vaprak was in use when the Dwarves descovered it and in the ensuing battle with the Trolls and Ogres there-in Eccar was cut-off from the rest of the group and forced to flee from a group of a dozen trollish temple guards lead by an Ogre-Mage, he was forced to seek a hiding spot within the old abandond temple of Cthulhu, which the Ogre-mage refused to enter. Hiding within a small archway inside the main room of the temple, Eccar suddenly found himself engulfed in a strange blueish glow and was suddenly falling, spinng wildly round and round.....

Eccar awoke to find himself laying on the ground in an area that was covered in a heavy fog full of bare trees, apparently outside somewhere...in a land in the grip of winter. Eccar arose to his feet and looked around thinking that he was transported somehow thru a magical gate of some kind. Hearing a cawing sound Eccar looked up to see a crow regarding him from the bare branches of a nearby tree. At the same time Eccar felt a warm glow emminating from the Holy Symbol of Moradin on the chain around his neck. Looking to the Crow Eccar said jokingly "Hello mister crow.. where am I please?"... the crow tilted its head and stared at him then cawed again and flew to the branches of another tree and looked back and cawed yet another time. Eccar looked at the crow then walked toward it.. it nodded as if in approvel and flitted to another branch and looked back to the Dwarf priest.
"Hummnnn.. I guess you wish me to follow you?" Eccar asked jokingly. The crow merely nodded again and flew to another tree and looked back at him. Eccar put his hand around the Holy Symbol on the chain around his neck and thought, then having no sign from his God, decided to follow the crow.. for after all... what else was he going to do... lost who knows where?
After a half a days journey following the crow thru the fog shrouded land Eccar found himself approching a Castle and standing before the gates was a man of somewhat fearsome appearance. Putting his hand upon his Holy Symbol Eccar briefly whispered a prayer to Moradin and recieved a deep feeling of peace and belonging.. such as he had never felt before.
Seeing the man was watching him without any malice within his eyes Eccar stepped forward and Bowed saying: "Eccar Ode at your service sir... could you please help a lost soul to find where he is?"
The man nooded gravely and spoke: "Welcome Eccar.. you stand before Zombie Castle, home of my family.. I am Eriq, First Elder of the Draven Family."
At these words the Holy Symbol of Moradin again suddenly gave Eccar a feeling of warmth and belonging and he knew that somehow his destiny was to be intertwined with this man.. and his family. Eriq nodded toward the door to the castle and again spoke; "Come in and warm yourself Eccar and let us speak... of family and belonging...."
And thus the beginning of a new time in Eccars life began....
