Welcome to my blacksmithing guide. If you don't need
help with the blacksmithing trade then feel free
to click one of the above links to check out my
other crafting sections.
Now onto the learning
Mining-Strength based
The first skillset you will learn to train is that of
Mining. To begin with you will need to get a
Pick Axe, any blacksmith shop will have them for
sale or if you talk to the blacksmith trainer on
Valinor Island. They can also be crafted with
the Forging skill from 2 ingots.
Now that you have your Pick Axe go find a mountain
side or large boulder (as shown below) then while
standing next to either click on your Pick Axe and
you will get a selection cursor, now click on the
rock to begin mining. After a few swings you will
get a message telling you whether you found ore or
not. If you get a message saying
"There is Nothing to mine here."
that spot has no more ore to mine. When you fail
you will notice a message telling you that you
damaged your Pick Axe. Eventually all tools end up
destroyed due to failures and have to be replaced.
Advanced Mining - At higher levels you
will be able to mine magical ores. Level 30 mining
will yield Thrallenite Ore from the same rocks as
Iron Ore though at a much lower rate. At level 45
you can start mining red crystals for Sulphur Crystals
and Brimidian Ore, though the ore has a much lower
rate than the crystals. And finally at level 70
you can mine black crystals for Obsidian and
Talenite Ore, this ore is found very rarely.
Smelting-Intelligence based
Now that you have some ore it's time to smelt it. To
smelt the ore take it to a forge and click on the
belows to light it. Once the forge is lit click on
your ore then select the forge to begin smelting.
After a few seconds you will get a message telling
you whether you succeed or not. Forges eventually
go out so that you have to click on the bellows
again. Smelting has a very low chance for success
so don't get too discouraged if it takes awhile to
get a substantial amount of ingots.
Forging-Strength based
The next thing you need to do is get a Blacksmith
Hammer to forge the ingots with, they can be bought
from any blacksmith or made with 2 ingots through
Forging (of course you'll need to get a Blacksmith
Hammer before you can make one).
Now that you have your Blacksmith Hammer take your
ingots to the nearest anvil (you must be standing
next to an anvil or have an anvil of veldan in your
backpack to forge) then click on your Blacksmith
Hammer and select the ingots.
Clicking your ingots will bring up a crafting menu.
If you are just beginning the only item you can
craft will be a Small Dagger. The menu is divided
into 4 sections though there are no ammunition
types that can be forged at any level as of yet.
After selecting your desired item to make it will
take a few seconds before you get a message telling
you whether you succeed or not.
Iron Salvage-Dexterity based
A new skill added with the Talazar's Revenge expansion
is the ability to salvage iron items into ingots.
To salvage an iron item you first need to buy
Metal Salvage tools, they can only be found in
blacksmith shops in the new towns added with the
expansion.
Now that you have your tools click on them and select
any metal item to salvage. After a few seconds you
will get a message telling you whether you succeed
or fail. If done successfully you will recieve 1
ingot otherwise the item will just be destroyed.
Once you reach level 20 in this skill you can use
Veldan's Tongs to salvage magic iron items for
Thrallenite, Brimidian, or Talenite ingots.
Blacksmithing Tips
-Make your own pick axes at lower levels to save gold.
-Once you are of sufficient level try making
broadswords to level forging to make a good amount
of gold and experience.
-Use as many intelligence boosting items/spells as
possible when smelting to help with the lousy
success rate.
-Magic tradeskill items can boost your skill levels
to reduce failure rates slightly and increase
experience gains
-The anvil of veldan is a very handy item when
forging as it lets you forge in a shop or from the
bank.
-If you have the TR expansion use the metal salvage
tools while forging to get back some of the ingots
lost while forging.
