Welcome to my farming guide. If you already don't need help farming then feel free to click one of the above links to check out my other crafting sections.
Now onto the learning
Foraging-Intelligence based
The first skillset you will learn to train is that of
Foraging. To begin with you will need to get a
Foraging Stick, any farm shop will have them for
sale or if you talk to the farming trainer on
Valinor Island. They can also be crafted with
the Carpentry skill from 3 logs.
Now that you have your Foraging stick go find a patch
of flowers (as shown below) then while standing
next to them click on your Foraging Stick and you
will get a selection cursor, now click on the patch
to begin foraging. After a bit you will get a
message telling you whether you found seeds or not.
If you get a message saying "
There is Nothing to forage there.". When
you fail you will notice a message telling you that
you damaged your Foraging Stick. Eventually all
tools end up destroyed due to failures and have to
be replaced.
Advanced Foraging - At higher levels
you will be able to forage magic seeds. Level 25
foraging will yield Malacinth Seeds from the same
patches as all the other seeds though at a much
lower rate. At level 45 you can start foraging
ferns found in the new areas the Talazar's Revenge
expansion added for Dolas fern and the occassional
Malacinth like normal patches of flowers. And
finally at level 70 you can forage from bushes in
any of the places red and black crystals are for
Bitterwood Ash and Mandrake seeds, these seeds are
very rare.
Planting-Intelligence based
Now that you have some seeds it's time to plant them.
For this you need to get a Shovel, just like with
the Foraging Stick you can buy one at any farm shop
and one can also be required through the farming
trainer. They can likewise be made through the
Carpentry skill, though they require 2 planks to make.
The next step is to go plant the seeds you foraged so
go head to the nearest farming field. There are
many rows in which to plant in most fields. Once
at the field stand next to one of the rows (or
above as shown below) and click on your Shovel.
Use the cursor to target one of the furrows and
you will begin to dig, after about 2 seconds
you will have a hole to plant your seeds in.
Your Shovel will randomly take damage while being
used as there is no way to fail digging a hole.
Next click on one of the seeds you
have from foraging and click on the hole
(most byproducts of planting can also be replanted:
fruit, cotton, wheat grain, etc...). After a few
seconds you will get a message saying whether you
succeeded or failed to plant and the hole will
Change to either a field mound or trunk mound (as
shown below). Once planted it will take a few minutes
before they are ready to harvest.
Harvesting-Dexterity based
Before your crops are ready you may want to take this
time to get a Farm Scythe as some crops require one
to harvest them. They can be acquired in the same
way as a Shovel though they only require 1 plank
to craft via Carpentry.
When you get the message "One of
your crops is ready to harvest." go back
to your crops and press spacebar while standing
next to them to pick the crop. For Barley, Cinnamon,
Sugar, and Wheat plants all require a Farm Scythe
to harvest. To use a Farm Scythe click on it then
select the crop you wish to use the scythe on. After
a couple seconds you will get a message saying
whether you succeed or fail. Failure destroys the
crop and damages your scythe.
Another part of farming that does not involve gaining
any experience is processing one of 3 crops in the
mill. To use the mill take your Wheat Grain, Sugar
Cane, or Cinnamon Bundle and click on them selecting
the mill. In a few seconds you will get some bags
of the appropriate type.
Farming Tips
-Roses, Cherries, and bananas are excellent sources
of experience in farming but can be difficult to
successfully plant.
-Planting cotton is an excellent source of funding
as it is easy to grow and has a very high yield.
-Using the Bless Fields, Grow, or Flourish spells are
handy ways of lowering the growing times of your
crops.
-Foraging has a very high rate of success when coupled
with high intelligence and high skill, at level 45
the failure rate is non-existant when using an
Enchanted Foraging Stick (made with heartwood and
requires lvl 45 foraging to use while giving a +20
lvl bonus).
-Cooking and Tailoring skills are good skills to work
on while farming as both use farming for some of
their resources.
