Fish Gallery

These are mostly pictures of fish captured using a backpack electrofishing unit. I would say that no fish were harmed in these surveys, but in fact every brook trout we shocked out of Elk Creek was intentionally killed and removed from the stream to free up habitat for our native fish.

The Rio Grande cutthroat trout pictured below are the New Mexico state fish, and are the only native salmonid in Northern New Mexico.

In addition to electrofishing, we sometimes employ rod and reel surveys in locations that are difficult to survey with other methods. The two Snake River cuts shown at the bottom were captured by myself and Kendall Brown using flyrods (sigh, the demands of the job, some days it can be pretty rough out there...).
