Daufer's Return
[JadedDM]: Ruebon 30th, Seaday.
A week has passed since the party's last misadventure, and Gaheris has
called another meeting. This time,
they meet in the library. The place
is deserted, save for Loreleii the librarian, who is sitting at her desk,
examining something intently in her hand. Gaheris
sits at one of the reading tables, looking fairly bored.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin sits in Gaheris' lap absently, looking to be more
in thought than bored. "We at least had more to look at than just books at
the tavern."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "And
something to drink. But I'm not
going back to the Wolf Blaze Inn."
[Daufer]: Daufer enters the library, his armor creaking, and he
surveys the room with a stern, dour look.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin turns her head upon hearing creaking armor, and
raises an eyebrow. "Well, if it isn't Daufer."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris attempts to look behind him, but having Jasmin
in his lap is seriously limiting his movement.
"What? Daufer?"
[Daufer]: Daufer gives a quick greeting to the librarian, and then
sits down.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin scoots off Gaheris' lap so he can actually see the
hobgoblin, and she crosses her arms.
[Daufer]: "Hello, Gaheris," Daufer says. "This isn't
really a social visit, I'm afraid. I've come to ask your help."
[JadedDM]: The rogue stands up, looking quiet different than when
Daufer last saw him four months ago. He
wears finer clothes, slicks back his hair, and is cleaner shaved these days.
"Well, look what the cat dragged in."
[Jasmin]: "And why should we help you?"
[Daufer]: Daufer raises an eyebrow questioningly at the rogue.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris dusts off his hands.
"Never one for small talk, Daufer."
He leans a bit on the table. "What
do you need then?"
[Eskar]: Eskar cracks the door open and moves in sheepishly. He
looks around quickly before closing the door behind him. The duergar blinks in
surprise at the sight of Daufer, but moves over to the group with a nod to
Loreleii.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin lets out a small huff as she plops down in a
chair. "You are actually going to hear him out?"
[Daufer]: "I saved you from a life of slavery," Daufer
says quietly. "The least you can do is give me a few moments of your
time."
[Jasmin]: "No, the least we could do is show you out that
door. You have pretty much abandoned us."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Jasmin,
that's enough. Let's at least hear
what he has to say, first."
[Daufer]: Daufer looks impassively at Jasmin. He then takes out an
old book and says, "I've discovered the location of a temple to D'lokka
located east of Voxis, called Qavay. What I need is help exploring it."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin shoots a glare towards Gaheris, but remains quiet
for now.
[Eskar]: The duergar pops a piece of charcoal into his mouth,
chewing it thoughtfully at Daufer's words.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Qavay?
That sounds familiar. Isn't
that place supposed to be haunted or cursed or something?"
[Daufer]: "Yes. There was an Insurrection, and when the rebels
tried to mount one last defense, the drow used powerful necromantic magic to
destroy them. Most say it's haunted. Vengeful spirits, both Hobgoblin and Drow
alike, continue to battle unendingly. Or so they say."
[Jasmin]: "The moment we step in there, we are probably
dead."
[Daufer]: "With the destruction of Voxis' own temple, it's my
goal to regain whatever religious knowledge may be stored there. Anything else
you may deem of value, you may do what you wish. But I must request that any
knowledge pertaining to the D'lokkan faith remain with me."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Would
there be anything there of worth to us?"
[Eskar]: Eskar scratches his beard. "I am thinking this is
sounding very familiar..." The duergar wanders towards Loreleii to see what
she's up to. He coughs to get her attention.
[Daufer]: "I will not lie. None have tried to venture there,
for fear of the spirits, but also for fear of finding nothing at all for all
their efforts. However, no one has been there in all these years, so there may
be something there. I don't have any way of knowing, however."
[Jasmin]: "That doesn't sound very promising."
[JadedDM]: Loreleii starts and closes her hand, concealing
whatever was sitting on her palm. She
looks to Eskar and smiles politely. "Oh,
can I help you with something?"
[Eskar]: The duergar shrugs and gestures to her hands. "I am
just being curious."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "And
once we help you with this temple, then what?"
[JadedDM]: Loreleii: "Curious?
About what?"
[Eskar]: "What you are looking at." He coughs and lowers
his voice. "I am knowing where that conversation is going." He jerks
his thumb behind him towards the others.
[Jasmin]: "Are you just going to leave us again?"
[Daufer]: "It was not my intention to be gone this long,"
Daufer says. "My responsibility as priest and leader, however, kept me
away. Keeps me away. There's little I can do about that."
[JadedDM]: Loreleii: "Oh...it's
nothing." She slips whatever it
was into her pocket. "What
conversation?"
[Jasmin]: Jasmin looks to Gaheris for a few moments. "I can
face a few ghosts...maybe."
[Eskar]: Eskar looks at her sidelong then shrugs. "They are
going to be deciding to go to this Qavay place I am knowing."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "It
might be the win we've been looking for to put the Tainted Hands in their
place."
[JadedDM]: Loreleii: "Qavay?
The cursed temple?"
[Eskar]: Eskar nods.
[Jasmin]: "Or we can get stuck in a wagon like the last time
we tried to go to a temple."
[JadedDM]: Loreleii: "I
know all about it. It was decimated
by the Drow after the Hobgoblin Insurrection."
[Daufer]: Daufer stands. "I've said what I've wanted to say.
And I'm... sorry for my absence. I'll leave you to discuss further what you may.
If I can count you in, meet me at the Mirthful Miner tomorrow morning."
Daufer leaves.
[Eskar]: Eskar shrugs again. "It is another challenge to be
getting past."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin watches the hobgoblin take his leave before
turning her eyes back to Gaheris. "Well?"
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "I'm
not sure, but...," he looks around. "Anyone
seen Aidan?"
[Jasmin]: "I haven't seen him."
Jasmin looks over to Eskar and Loreleii. "What are you doing over
there, Eskar?"
[Eskar]: The duergar turns and moves back over to the party.
"Am not doing much of anything."
[Jasmin]: "Well, I guess we need to decide if we are going to
help Daufer or not. I'm not really for helping him too much because who is to
say that he won't just abandon us again once we are done with this temple?"
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Even
if he does, we could still stand to profit from this."
[Eskar]: The duergar shrugs. "A job is being a job. Money now
is fine."
[Jasmin]: "We aren't getting any money from Daufer
though," Jasmin points out to Eskar before turning back to Gaheris.
"Or we could utterly fail too."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "But
we get to keep anything of value inside the temple we find."
[Eskar]: Eskar nods. "It is probably worth it."
[Jasmin]: "He didn't exactly confirm that there is anything
worth value in there." Jasmin crosses her arms.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "True,
but...we couldn't confirm Vassus had anything of value, either.
We still tried to get there."
[Jasmin]: "Yeah, but Meschior is more of a trustworthy person.
Daufer really isn't. I'm not going to simply run off to this temple only to have
him betray us in the end."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "I've
known Daufer a lot longer than you have. I
don't think he's even capable of betrayal. You
know how he is, with honor and all of that stuff."
[Jasmin]: "You can still betray people with honor and all of
that stuff."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "What,
you think he's leading us into a trap?"
[Eskar]: Eskar gets to looking around the library, hardly amused.
"This is hardly having the same feeling like last time."
[Jasmin]: "I think that if it came up to our lives or his
faith, he would choose his faith."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "You're
the same way. Just replace 'faith'
with 'excitement.'"
[Jasmin]: "I wouldn't choose excitement over someone's life.
At least not someone I care about."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "What's
with you, anyway? You're acting
really strange."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin turns her attention to the table rather quickly.
"I just don't want to be betrayed...again."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Damn,
woman. I don't see how he's betrayed
us. It's not like he sold us out to
the Tainted Hands or anything."
[Jasmin]: "He hasn't been around, and when some of us needed
help he refused to do so!" Jasmin looks to Gaheris. "But fine, if you
want to go to this stupid temple then let’s go to this stupid temple."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "You're
still alive, aren't you?"
[Jasmin]: "Yeah, well I don't really have to worry about just
me anymore," she mutters.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Well,
I'm going to try and find Aidan. We'll
meet at the Miner tomorrow morning then."
[Jasmin]: "Fine." Jasmin pushes herself up from her
chair, and walks out the library door.
[Eskar]: Eskar shakes his head and follows Jasmin out.
[JadedDM]: The following day is Sardonx 1st, the beginning of a
new month. The party proceeds to the
Mirthful Miner that morning, at around 10 bells.
The place is still pretty quiet at this point, so they have plenty of
privacy. Baska brings them their
drinks while Ruby performs a dance for the few patrons in the bar.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin sits down at one of the tables, absently watching
Ruby dance.
[Eskar]: The duergar concentrates on his drink, idly trying to
appreciate it.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris steps inside, a cool wind blowing in as he
opens the door. He pushes it shut
and removes the hood of his cloak before approaching the others.
"No sign of Aidan. Probably
locked himself up somewhere to study spells."
He takes a seat.
[Jasmin]: "Or he could still be resting."
[Daufer]: Daufer enters the tavern, the door banging shut behind
him. He looks at the group. "You decided to come." Daufer finally
notices the duergar. "Hello. I don't believe we've met formally."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris silently glances to the dwarf, a look of mild
repulsion in his eyes.
[Eskar]: Eskar hops to his feet and offers a grimy slab of meat he
calls a hand to the priest. "Good to be fighting, my friend."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin glances over to Eskar and Daufer with almost a
small smirk before turning her attention back to Ruby. "She's getting
better."
[Daufer]: Daufer returns with a firm handshake and then looks back
at the group. "I assume this is everyone?"
[Jasmin]: "Yeah, this is everyone. Aidan isn't going to make
it I guess. Meschior hasn't been with us for some time."
[Daufer]: "It won't hurt to pay him a visit. If he says no,
then that's fine." Daufer strides out of the tavern and makes his way for
the
[Eskar]: Eskar hops gets back into his seat, groaning a little at
the effort. He grabs his drink and downs takes a sip.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin blinks a few times at Daufer before she stands up
to head after him. "He is just sort of taking over isn't he?"
[JadedDM]: Gaheris pulls back up his hood and steps out the others
into the annoying wind. The party
makes their way to the loud
[Eskar]: Eskar remains quietly in tow of the others.
[Daufer]: Daufer enters the
[Jasmin]: Jasmin glances around the temple absently as Daufer calls
out. "He is probably down below," she says, raising her voice
slightly.
[JadedDM]: Jasmin is proven incorrect, however, as Meschior
approaches from the back area. "Ah,
my old friends. I take it you have
heard the news then?"
[Daufer]: Daufer shakes his head. "I'm afraid not. What
news?"
[Jasmin]: Jasmin blinks a few times upon seeing Meschior.
"News?"
[JadedDM]: Meschior: "Oh...I
proposed to Loreleii yesterday. She
didn't mention anything?"
[Daufer]: "No," Daufer says. "But,
congratulations."
[Jasmin]: "....No." Jasmin can't help but frown slightly,
but quickly hides it by looking at the ground.
[Eskar]: Eskar nods, smiling and moves to pat the young priest on
the back. "We will be seeing, Meschior."
[JadedDM]: Meschior: "But,
if you did not come to congratulate me then...what does bring you here?"
[Daufer]: "I have a favor to ask of you," Daufer says.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin sighs softly and raises her head back up. "Daufer
wants to drag you off to some D'lokka temple."
[Daufer]: "Thank you, Labree," Daufer says with a curt
tone. "But your input is not needed." Daufer turns to the priest.
"I need your help in exploring the
[JadedDM]: Meschior: "I
am honored you would ask me to come, but we are currently behind on our quota
and I'll need to remain to oversee the smelting process.
Plus, as you mentioned, I am now engaged.
Although, admittedly she has not actually said 'yes' just yet, I am sure
she will soon."
[Eskar]: Eskar shakes his head. "Ah well, Meschior. You are
stay safe."
[Daufer]: "It was actually the librarian who provided me with
the information regarding the temple," Daufer says.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin rolls her eyes as she turns from the group to go
stand near the door.
[Daufer]: "Anyway, I congratulate you again on your
engagement," Daufer says. He gives the priest his good-bye and the leaves
the temple.
[Eskar]: Eskar follows Daufer, as he seems to know where he's going.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin glances over her shoulder to Meschior before she
finally follows after the group.
[JadedDM]: Meschior bids them farewell and good luck as they
leave. Once back on the streets,
Gaheris turns to the hobgoblin. "So
it looks like it's just us four."
[Daufer]: "Not as many as I'd like," Daufer replies.
"If you're willing to take a detour, I'd like to go to the Karik Mines and
see about getting some orcs to join us."
[Jasmin]: "I rather not go back there," Jasmin chimes in.
[Daufer]: "You do not actually need to go into the mines. I
will go inside, and then come back out."
[Eskar]: Eskar curls his lip. "I am thinking you can be going
alone."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin sighs impatiently before looking to Gaheris.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "How
trustworthy are these orcs?"
[Daufer]: "They are all devoted to D'lokka," Daufer says.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin narrows her eyes. "They kept us as slaves,
Gaheris."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "And
now we have a chance to boss them around," he points out.
[Daufer]: "River Bear kept you as a slave. And he's been put
in his place." Daufer says. "We need more men, or we will be walking
towards certain death."
[Eskar]: Eskar crosses his arms. "Never trust an orc."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin lets out a small groan.
[Daufer]: "Are we agreed, then?" Daufer looks around.
[Jasmin]: "I don't agree with it, but it looks like we are
going anyway."
[Daufer]: Daufer gathers his pack mule and other equipment.
"Then, let's be off."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris shrugs, and the party heads to the west gate
and beyond, into the
[Jasmin]: Jasmin looks at the Mines with a disgusted look on her
face. "I never wanted to set eyes on this place again."
[Daufer]: "Wait here, then," Daufer says. He breaks away
from the group and goes into the mines.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin plops down on the ground. "They aren't going
to take too kindly to working with a woman, I don't think."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "I
kind of wish he had taken care of all this before he rounded us up," he
mentions over the wind.
[Jasmin]: "I wonder if Loreleii is going to say yes,"
Jasmin says absently.
[Daufer]: Daufer returns with four orcish figures at his back.
[JadedDM]: The four orcs are all carrying spears and wearing
studded leather armor. They wince at
the brightness of the sun and meander around, awaiting orders.
[Daufer]: Daufer goes through making introductions, pointing at
each orc as he does so.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin pushes herself up from the ground looking at the
orcs before looking back to Daufer.
[JadedDM]: Three of the orcs appear to be hardened veterans of
battle, but the fourth one looks rather young and overeager.
[Daufer]: ((I wonder if the orcs are wearing red shirts.))
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "They
look...brutal. You sure you can
control them?"
[Daufer]: "Don't worry about that," Daufer says
confidently. "Well, enough detours, then. Let's go."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Right
then. I'll, uh, take the
flank," he says, maneuvering behind the orcs.
[Daufer]: Daufer directs the youngest orc to take control of the
pack mule, and then moves towards the east, towards his destination.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin follows along quietly, seemingly a bit
uncomfortable at this point.
[JadedDM]: The party turns and begins back east, toward Voxis.
They must make a detour around the city, as the orcs aren't eager to
cross through it. Nor would the town
guards take kindly to the idea of orcs inside the city's walls.
With all of these detours, by the time the party reaches the Kelkar
Highlands, the sun is beginning to set. The
wind still steadily blows, but at least the rocky terrain helps shield them from
it most of the time as they travel.
[Jasmin]: "I don't think we are going to make it to the temple
before the sun sets."
[Daufer]: "No, it takes a day and a night, at least, to get
there," Daufer says. "We should make camp and start fresh early
morning."
[JadedDM]:
(I need Daufer to roll a 1d10 for me.)
[Daufer]: ((Uh oh))
[Daufer]: [1d10] -> [2] = (2)
[JadedDM]: Without warning, the party is suddenly ambushed by a
squad of ten hobgoblin skeletons. They
had been hiding in various spots, behind rocks and bushes.
The skeletons are carrying rusty spears and wearing nothing but horned
helmets. Everyone but Jasmin is
surprised.
[Daufer]: ((Excellent.))
[Jasmin]: Jasmin pulls out her swords upon seeing the skeletons.
"Oh, not skeletons again."
[JadedDM]: As everyone stands there, stunned, the skeletons
attack. What are Jasmin's actions in
the surprise round?
[Jasmin]: Jasmin attacks with her swords.
[Jasmin]: [1d10] -> [2] = (2)
[JadedDM]:
Jasmin's turn.
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [9] = (9)
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [8] = (8)
[Jasmin]: [1d6+3] -> [1,3] = (4)

[Jasmin]: Jasmin shoves Radiant
Star in between one of the skeleton's ribcage, and pulls the blade back as
hard as she can causing the bones to break before the skeleton drops to the
ground. Scalebiter makes contact with
another skeleton's neck, yet she isn't able to stop its advance.
[JadedDM]:
Skeletons' turn.
[Daufer]: ((This'll be good.))
[JadedDM]: The skeletons engage the enemy.
Two of the veteran orcs fall immediately as they are skewered by the
skeleton's spears. The younger one
is gutted, as well. The fourth one
manages to take the spear in the shoulder, sparing his life.
Two more engage Jasmin, but she easily dances around them.
Another two go for Daufer. He
deflects one attack, but gets stabbed in the back instead.
The last two engage Eskar, and he only gets a small scar across the face.
[JadedDM]:
Actions for Round 1?
[Jasmin]: Jasmin continues on with her attack.
[Jasmin]: [1d10] -> [3] = (3)
[Daufer]: Daufer directs the remaining orc to attack the same
skeleton Jasmin is attacking, and then incites berserker rage into the orc.
[Daufer]: [1d10] -> [10] = (10)
[JadedDM]:

[Daufer]: ((Excellent.))

Jasmin's turn.

[Jasmin]: Jasmin brings both Radiant
Star and Scalebiter around to slam
into a skeleton's head. The skull seems to pop right off at the force, and the
skeleton crumbles to the ground.
[JadedDM]:
Daufer's turn.
[Daufer]: ((Wow, really?))
[JadedDM]:
(Really. As it turns out, the
skeletons failed initiative.)
[Daufer]: Daufer coerces a jat'lyn
to come out and fly into the remaining orc standing.
[JadedDM]:
Orc's turn.
[JadedDM]: The remaining orc, though wounded, engages the
remaining skeleton fighting Jasmin as ordered.
The jat'lyn infuses into him,
causing his muscles to grow and his eyes to radiate with red power.
Shouting an ancient orcish battlecry, he slams his spear into the
skeleton's side, knocking away a number of ribs.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris fires an arrow, aiming at the skeleton the orc
just attacked. His aim is true, and
it knocks the undead's skull right off of its spine.
It crumbles to the ground.
[JadedDM]:
Skeletons' turn.
[JadedDM]: The two fighting Eskar continue to stab at him, one of
them catching him in the arm. The
two fighting Daufer do not fare as well. One,
in fact, falls over as it tries to stab him and the hobgoblin merely sidesteps
the attack. The remaining three team
up on Jasmin and the orc, one of them scoring a hit in Jasmin's thigh.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin cries out as she is stabbed in the thigh, though
it does not stop her from attacking again.
[JadedDM]:
Jasmin's turn.
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [9] = (9)

[Jasmin]: Despite the wound in her thigh, Jasmin stabs Radiant
Star through the ribcage of a skeleton, yet she only breaks a rib or two by
the action.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris fires another arrow, this one missing
altogether.
[JadedDM]:
(Okay, actions for Round 2.)
[Jasmin]: Jasmin attacks.
[Jasmin]: [1d10] -> [8] = (8)
[Daufer]: Daufer heals one of the orcs.
[Daufer]: [1d10] -> [7] = (7)
[Eskar]: Eskar curses the skeletons, turning his blade on the ones
attacking him. "Unnatural beast."
[Eskar]: [1d10] => [10] = (10)
[JadedDM]:
Jasmin's turn.

[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [19] = (19)
[Jasmin]: [1d6+3] -> [3,3] = (6)

[Jasmin]: Jasmin stabs Radiant
Star into the ribcage of the skeleton again, and then does the same with Scalebiter
crossing the weapons together. She then pulls them back to break the ribs of the
skeleton completely. The Skeleton then crumbles to the ground like the ones
before.
[JadedDM]:
Daufer's turn.

[JadedDM]: Daufer revives one of the fallen veteran orcs.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris takes aim at one of the skeletons attacking
Daufer. The arrow again knocks its
skull off, crumbling the abomination.
[JadedDM]:
Orc's turn.
[JadedDM]: The orc strikes at one of the skeletons Jasmin is
fighting, but in his fury, he misses.
[JadedDM]:
Eskar's turn.
[Eskar]: [1d20] => [20] = (20)
[Daufer]: ((Nice!))
[Eskar]: (Not a bad start. Makes up for some crit misses)
[Eskar]: [2d4+2] => [3,2,2] = (7)
[Eskar]: [2d4+2] => [3,1,2] = (6)
[Eskar]: Eskar's blade cleaves the nearest skeleton from collar bone
to hip, crumbling it to a pile of dust and bone chips. "Much better."
[JadedDM]:
Skeletons' turn.
[JadedDM]: The luck of the remaining skeletons' takes a turn for
the worse. The two on Jasmin can't
touch her, the one on Daufer actually stumbles again, and the remaining one on
Eskar is unable to get through his shield's defense.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris again aims for the skull of one of Jasmin's
attackers. The arrow finds a home in
the creature's empty eye socket, but otherwise does not harm it.
[JadedDM]:

[Jasmin]: Jasmin attacks once again.
[Jasmin]: [1d10] -> [10] = (10)
[Daufer]: Daufer incites berserker rage in the other orc.
[Daufer]: [1d10] -> [10] = (10)

[Eskar]: Eskar continues his attack.

[Eskar]: (Two 10's, bad mojo)
[JadedDM]:
Skeletons' turn.
[JadedDM]: The skeleton fighting Eskar nearly gets him, but the
dwarf's shield again saves his hide. The
one fighting Daufer actually stumbles a third time...the remaining two pair off
against Jasmin and the orc, but both warriors are able to keep their rusty
weapons at bay.
[JadedDM]:

[Jasmin]: Jasmin brings Radiant
Star down to try and hit the spine of the skeleton, but it is able to block
it. Quickly, she brings Scalebiter
around the other side to hit the spine, and she is able to chip off a few bone
fragments.
[JadedDM]:
Daufer's turn.
[Daufer]: Daufer calls another jat'lyn
spirit to come and infuse with the other standing orc.
[JadedDM]:
Orcs' turn.
[JadedDM]: The second orc manages to get up, despite his wounds,
and join his brother in battle. Although
now both are possessed with jat'lyn,
neither is able to damage their opponent.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris fires another arrow, but this one just passes
through the skeleton's ribs, not touching it.
[JadedDM]:
Eskar's turn.
[Eskar]: [1d20] => [10] = (10)
[Eskar]: [2d4+2] => [1,2,2] = (5)
[Eskar]: The duergar's killing stab does nothing but scrape the
skeleton's ribs a little. He curses at his fleshless foes.
[JadedDM]:
Jasmin's turn.
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [17] = (17)
[Jasmin]: [1d6+3] -> [6,3] = (9)
[Jasmin]: Jasmin manages to make Radiant Star connect with the
spine this time around, and the skeleton crumbles into two as the torso is
knocked from the skeleton's legs.
[JadedDM]:
The only three skeletons remaining are attacking Eskar, Daufer, and the two
orcs. Actions for Round 4?
[Daufer]: Daufer tries to revive another orc.
[Eskar]: Eskar tries to down the skeleton that insists upon
harassing him.
[Daufer]: [1d10] -> [9] = (9)
[Eskar]: [1d10] => [5] = (5)
[Jasmin]: Jasmin attacks the skeletons attacking the orcs.
[Jasmin]: [1d10] -> [6] = (6)
[JadedDM]:
Jasmin's turn.
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [6] = (6)
[Jasmin]: [1d20] -> [11] = (11)
[Jasmin]: [1d6+3] -> [4,3] = (7)
[Jasmin]: Radiant Star
finds its way blocked by one of the skeleton's, but it is fast enough to block Scalebiter
from stabbing its skull. The skeleton, like many of the others crumbles to the
ground.
[JadedDM]:
Eskar's turn.
[Eskar]: [1d20] => [19] = (19)
[Eskar]: [2d4+2] => [2,3,2] = (7)
[Eskar]: The duergar tries to swipe for the skeleton's torso in
general, but his sword only cracks a single rib.
[JadedDM]:
Orcs' turn.
[JadedDM]: The two orcs, still enraged by the jat'lyn's power, immediately launch themselves toward the skeleton stumbling
around Daufer. Working together,
they pound it into dust.
[JadedDM]:
Skeleton's turn.
[JadedDM]: The remaining skeleton, in its single-minded fury,
continues fighting against impossible odds.
It stabs at the dwarf, but the rusty tip of its spear merely scrapes off
his shield.
[JadedDM]:
Daufer's turn.
[Daufer]: [1d8] -> [7] = (7)
[JadedDM]: Daufer revives another veteran orc, only leaving one
left wounded.
[JadedDM]:
Gaheris' turn.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris fires two shots.
The first hits the skeleton's skull, causing it to spin in a comical
fashion. The second arrow then
knocks the backwards skull off, causing the creature to fall to pieces.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Is
everyone okay?"
[Jasmin]: Jasmin places Radiant
Star and Scalebiter back on her
back as she looks around at the bones surrounding her. "One of them managed
to stab me in the leg, but I think I'm okay."
[Daufer]: Daufer revives the last remaining orc.
[Daufer]: [1d8] -> [1] = (1)
[Eskar]: Eskar grunts, resheathing his sword.
[Daufer]: ((Haha.))
[JadedDM]: The battle spirits of the two orcs dissipate, leaving
them exhausted. The fourth orc is
revived, only moments away from death.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris puts away his bow.
"How are your, uh, troops, Daufer?"
[Daufer]: "They're all wounded, but they'll live. This
one," he says, pointing at the youngest orc, "won't be in fighting
shape for a while."
[JadedDM]: One of the orcs, the only one that did not fall at some
point, retrieves one of the skeleton's helmets and places it on his head.
[Jasmin]: "Should we make camp for the night?"
[Daufer]: "That's a good idea," Daufer says.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Yeah,
it's getting late...and the undead favor the night.
It's too dangerous to travel then."
[Eskar]: The grey dwarf nods and sets about all of the appropriate
procedures.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin glances around the area before finding a spot that
she deems worthy enough for her.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris starts to clear off a space for them, brushing
some of the scattered bones and rusty weapons aside.
[Daufer]: Daufer directs those orcs that are able to help.
He, himself, begins gathering all the skeleton bones together.
[JadedDM]: The helmet orc approaches Daufer.
He stands tall and proud, despite his wounds.
He says something in butchered hobgoblin.
[JadedDM]: Orc:
"{We fight well, yes?}"
[Daufer]: "{Yes, you fought well today. Our goddess would be
pleased.}"
[JadedDM]: The helmet hobgoblin salutes Daufer and then goes to
sit with his companions. The four
begin to chat in the Orcish tongue.
[Jasmin]: "In need of praise are they?"
[Daufer]: After setting up camp is done, Daufer teaches to the orcs
about D'lokka, leading them in the appropriate prayers, et cetera.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris approaches Jasmin.
"We did better than against the last batch of skeletons we
fought."
[Jasmin]: "Yeah, we weren't almost killed this time
around."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris turns to Daufer and notices the pile of bones.
"Going to give them a proper hobgoblin burial, I presume?"
[Daufer]: "Nothing would make me happier than to set these
bones to rest. But I need them."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin raises an eyebrow curiously, yet she shrugs off
the question. "Gaheris?"
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Need
them?"
[Daufer]: "That is what I said," Daufer says.
[Eskar]: Eskar's head snaps to attention, looking at Daufer.
[Jasmin]: "For what?"
[Daufer]: "For the mission into Qavay," Daufer says.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris crosses his arms.
"Can we expect to see more of them in the temple itself?"
[Daufer]: "It's possible. I don't know the full extent of the
Drow magic that caused the fall of Qavay."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris turns to Jasmin.
"You still have that fire-breathing potion, right?"
[Jasmin]: Jasmin hugs her knees up to her chest. "Yeah, I
still have it."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris nods. "Good.
I have a feeling we'll need it."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin gives a slight nod. "Gaheris, can I talk to
you for a second?"
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "Sure,
kitten." He approaches her and
then sits down, cross-legged.
[Daufer]: Daufer continues preaching to the orcs.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin leans over and whispers in his ear.
[Eskar]: Eskar looks at Daufer strangely, and then decides not to
interrupt the praying and lays down to rest.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris jumps back away from Jasmin, as if she had just
bit him. "What?!"
[Jasmin]: Jasmin winces upon seeing the reaction.
[Daufer]: Daufer looks up at the cause of the commotion.
He then turns back and continues talking to the orcs.
[JadedDM]: Gaheris: "That...that's
a hypothetical question, right? I
mean...you're not really..."
[Jasmin]: Jasmin glances down to the ground. "I just found
out."
[JadedDM]: Gaheris doesn't say anything for a good, long while.
Finally he looks away. "I
need time to think about this." He
heads to the other end of the campsite and sits down, keeping watch.
[Eskar]: Eskar shifts uncomfortably.
[Jasmin]: Jasmin goes back to hugging her knees to her chest,
pretty much looking miserable.
[JadedDM]:
(All right. We'll call it a night
here then.)
