Octhania Locations

The following is a guide to the different cities, towns, seas, and other locales of Octhania.

Immerfort: The capitol city of the Octhania Kingdom where the Kaiser resides, also known as the Pearl of Octhania. Immerfort is also a massive port city, bringing in hundreds of ships, mostly those belonging to the Kaiser.  The name "Immerfort" means "Lasting Forever."

The city of Immerfort itself rests on a giant waterfall.  While most of Octhania is at sea-level, some of it is a bit higher up. Immerfort lies at the shore, on a giant cliff. This is useful defense-wise, because even if a fleet can somehow get past the Blue Tsunami Navy, they'd still have to scale the cliff. Therefore it's almost impossible to attack Immerfort effectively from sea.  Several large rivers run down the Shunnen Mountains and they all converge at Immerfort. A complex system of sewer tunnels, canals, and aqueducts redirects this water under, through, and around the city and it all drops off the giant cliff, thus forming a huge waterfall.  Immerfort's harbor was built down at the base of the cliff, in a cave behind the falls. A series of tunnels lead up into the cliff and into the city. This means it's somewhat inconvenient to travel between the city and the docks, but in the event of an invading force coming to the docks, the tunnels can be sealed and the city is made safe.  The waterfall can also be magically command to part, letting ships in and out of the harbor.  The palace itself is built into the side of the cliff, also concealed by the waterfall.  It can be reached by the same tunnels that connect the city and harbor.

A massive lighthouse, known as Nikolaus' Beacon, stands in the center of the city. It's 1200 feet tall (including the lightning rod). It's said that the light of Immerfort can be seen from any sea in Octhania and that it always points lost sailors home.  Immerfort is also home to the Storm Sorcery Academy, a magic school that trains Sea Wizards.  Immerfort is also protected by walls. The rivers that run through the city also divide it into its three divisions. They are the noble division (the smallest, which holds the upper-class citizens, the Divine Temple, the Academy, and the Blue Tsunami HQ), the merchant division (which holds the bazaar and most of the shops and inns), and the common division (the largest where the lower-class and homeless are found, as well as the Immerfort Constable HQ and the Theater).  There are two entrances into the city, both lead into the Common Division. Each Division also has an underground exit that leads to the tunnels below.

Griffos: A festive city that embraces art, music and poetry. Sometimes called the Town of Bards.  It is the second largest port in the country.

Pum: One of the few Gnomish cities on Amtar (or more accurately, one of the few that has survived for more than 20 years.)

Soshun: A halfling city found in the Central Frontier, primarily Hairfoot, which is very quiet and peaceful.

Wallark:  The ‘half-way’ point of the Central Frontier.  Wallark is the only prosperous town in the Frontier.  Many adventurers and fools who dare travel across the Frontier stop in Wallark to rest and re-supply.

Katze: Katze is a village on the southern coast of Octhania. The legend surrounding it is an interesting one. A long time ago, the village was plagued by disease-carrying rats. This disease was quite fatal, known only as the Rat Disease. The people united in prayer to the gods for help, and Valerdar heard their pleas. She then blessed all of the cats in the town, giving them human intelligence and the ability to speak. This allowed the cats and humans to work together to kill all the rats and stop the disease from spreading further. Since then, the cats are nearly revered and hold a special place in all the hearts of the people.

Hydris Island: Not actually a single island, but rather a cluster of small islands connected by bridges. This town holds the famous Magi of the Deep Academy, a school that has produced some of the greatest and most famous fathomers  in the world.

Shezkra Sea: The sea southwest of Octhania, where Immerfort is. The Shezkra Sea is named after the sea demon that is said to dwell there. It's one of the safest seas with many Blue Tsunami ships patrolling it.

Mermaid Sea: The sea directly south of Octhania. It's name comes from the numerous but as of yet unconfirmed mermaid sightings. It's pretty safe, too.

Tancun Sea: The sea southeast of Octhania. It's name comes from the fact it's near the Tancun region of Octhania. (Little known fact: Tancun is the halfling word for Tropical). Heaven Island can be found here, so there are numerous merchant and fishing vessels in this area.

Corloin Sea: The sea east of Octhania. It's name is derived from the sea demon that is said to dwell there. If you stay close to shore, this sea is pretty safe. However, if you go further out you're very likely to encounter gnoll pirates.

Torack Sea: The sea northeast of Octhania. It's name is derived from the sea demon that is said to dwell there. This sea can be pretty dangerous as there are numerous sahuagin sightings.

Spectre Sea: The sea northwest of Octhania. Any sailor with half a brain will stay far, far away from this supposed 'cursed' sea. It's said it's haunted and full of evil spirits and ghost ships.

Maelstrom Sea: The sea west of Octhania. This sea is considered very dangerous but not because of monsters or pirates or sea demons. It tends to be a very unstable area with bad weather. Storms and whirlpools seem to appear one instant and be gone the next.
