"Kira, what do you think of
this one?" asked Tyran Nige of Commander Kira Markos as Nige held up a
small bracelet.
Kira looked up from the small jewelry counter that he was perusing to see what
Nige was holding. "Let me see."
Nige handed over the bracelet for inspection.
"I don't know, Nige," Responded Kira as he briefly looked at the bracelet and then handed it back to him, "it looks a little too flimsy."
"It's not flimsy! it's delicate." Retorted Nige as he simultaneously took back the bracelet and made a mocking face at Kira. Nige got the attention of the shop owner and motioned to him to say that he needed some assistance. Nige decided that he wanted to buy the bracelet despite Kira's opinion.
Kira and Nige, along with the rest of the crew of the USS Ronin were temporarily stationed on Deep Space 11. They had arrived a couple of days earlier after completing their mission to Valaria where they had begun negotiations to bring the planet system into the Federation. During this time the crew was given the mission of transporting a piece of technology to the station.
Currently the crew was getting some much needed time off while the Ronin was receiving some much needed repairs at the station.
As Kira and Nige exited the shop, Kira placed his hand on Nige's shoulder and said, "Don't worry, she'll like it."
"Oh, sure, now you like it." Said Nige as he brushed off Kira's hand.
Their joking was cut short by Kira's communicator activating. [Security to Commander Kira.]
"What on earth does security want with you?" asked Nige.
"I don't know," said Kira as he tapped his communicator badge and responded, "Commander Kira here, what can I do for you?"
[We've received a few complaints from some patrons at the bar on level seven; you might want to check in there and see how your Captain is doing.] Replied the security officer.
"Acknowledged, Kira out." Said Kira as he closed his communicator channel. "This is not what I planned on doing with my time off."
"We better go see what Captain Evans is up to." Said Nige in response.
The two officers reluctantly made their way toward the bar on level seven to see what the disturbance was. What they found wasn't pretty. Seated at a small table in the back of the bar was their Captain surrounded by at least a baker's dozen worth of shot glasses, some of which were tipped over with their contents spilling all over the small table he was 'seated' at. Kira and Nige had never seen Evans get this inebriated. He was so drunk that he was having a hard time keeping himself in his chair.
As Nige stood dumbstruck, staring at the Captain in his current state, Kira managed to snag a nearby waiter.
"Have you any idea why he's acting like this?" asked Kira of the waiter.
"All I've heard him talk about is some woman. He wouldn't even tell me who it was that broke his heart, he just kept ranting about this big mistake he made," replied the waiter. "Do you have any idea who he's talking about?"
Kira looked over at the Captain once more before answering, "I think I know who it is. Thanks for your help."
As the waiter walked away to return to the bar, Nige, who had been listening to their conversation, gave Kira a knowing look and said two simple words, "The Commander?"
Kira simply nodded and said, "Yes, the station Commander is the source of his pain!"
"What do we do with him?" asked Nige.
"We can try to talk to him... whatever we do we have to get him sober!" replied Kira.
