(My story has gone nuts; Even I can't keep track of it. As an aid to myself and anybody who else who RPs with me:)
"Kohael! Kohael!", a voice called across the crowded square. Kohael looked up from the list of addresses he was holding. This scene took place in the most affluent part of the PURPLENUM distrct, home of most of the government leaders and council members. He turned around and saw a small hunter dressed in purple. Nali Winter. Of course.
"Its you. How long have you been following me?"
She blushed red, "Only an hour or two. I was er... trying to get up the courage to talk to you."
"Sure you were. What do you want?"
"Well, I got your letter, and... I didn't quite understand some of it."
"And what makes you think I have the time or the desire to talk to you about it?"
This seemed to suprise her, he had always seemed eager to tell her things before.
"Well....."
"I'm busy now. I can't have you following me now."
"Fine, I'll just head straight to the authorities and tell them you've been casing the houses of certain Council Members. I'm sure they'd be very interested."
Kohael didn't move a muscle, but you could somehow detect a change in the aura of the room. People began to step away from the two, sensing that something was about to happen.
"Don't even try it, Kohael. You're in middle of a busy street, and there are at least 10 camera's pointed straight at you. Just tell me what I want to know, and you can do whatever you want to those poor government fools.", she grinned.
"You aren't gonna leave me alone till I tell you, are you? But lets go somewhere a bit more uncrowded."
"Not TOO uncrowded, of course"
A few minutes later they were sitting in a quiet cafe, well set off from the main transfer points of Pioneer 2. Nali brought a small energy drink for the both of them, and closed the curtain on their booth. She leaned forward with an expectant gleam in her eyes.
"Okay, what do I have to tell you to get you to go away?"
Kohael didn't notice the small click sound from her vest pocket"
"Lets start with most obvious, what IS Project Holy Flame? A biological weapon?"
"Holy Flame isn't a virus which can be vaccinated against, or some kind of hidious monster which goes away once you hit it with a couple rockets. Its... its hard to explain.. think of it as a genetic editor, years ahead of anything available. With it, you can create an entirely new lifeform in a matter of days or weeks, as oppossed to the years it takes to now. You could make that virus, or monster, or you could make a nanorobot which could build you a fortress in seconds, a mind control device, anything your heart desired. It takes playing God to a whole new level. If you possess it, and you know how to use it, you can rule the world, or make your own."
"Wow. You destroyed them all, right, when you took out that Takano girls base?"
"I hope so... hey, who told you that!"
"Did you think you could keep that a secret? You're the only one besides teh government who's got a nuclear weapon lying around."
"Yeah, I guess I should've been a bit more careful about that. Fine, I guess they were. Takano is the only person from that base left standing, and she didn't have time to take one."
"So Takano IS alive?"
"Oh yeah. She surrounded herself with some kind of shield she made using the holy flame device. I told you, it can be used to make almost anything."
"So why doesn't she just come to Pioneer 2 and kill you?"
"She's can't."
"VAIN?"
"Heh, you don't know Takano. She used to pride herself on being beautiful, even if everybody thought she was a witch. She was in a hurry setting up the shield she used, and screwed up her own genetic code. Lord only knows what happened to her, but no way would she let anybody see her. No, she'll just wait for me to go down to Ragol, and attack me there."
"Why not simply stop going down to Ragol then?"
"..........."
"Fine. Who IS she, anyway? I met her once at the opening of a new base back on the homeworlds. The way she looked at me made me so scared I had to leave. Missed an interview, had heck to pay at work the next morning."
"She is, or was, Persona Century's top genetic researcher. She was a poor girl from a broken household, who literally worked her way up from nothing, 'cause she could do genetic work better than anyone. She got a nice job developing vaccines for a small BioMed company. But the government clamped down on private gene research 'cause the private sector was luring away all the top talent. For whatever reason, she refused to work for the government, and found herself starving. Then, Persona Century found her. It needed somebody GOOD to lead its greatest project yet. For 5 years she directed the development of Holy Flame, only to find that, when we fled to Ragol, because the work was so close to completion, she wasn't needed any more. Her spot was given to some bald headed exec with a couple million mesata from his grandad. She was crushed, cause she had thought she was important. But backing up a bit: Ever since she started Holy Flame, she was forced to confront the back that it was being used to kill, rather than help people. I guess she didn't care. It twisted her, made her evil. Anyway, she got on Pioneer 2, somehow. I think she stowed away. I don't know how she found the old PC base, or got the men to restore it."
"Well, one last thing: Have you ever heard of the Syharas Massacre?"
Kohael frowned, and stood up.
"Follow me, and I'll kill you."
He stepped out of the booth and walked away. Nali clicked her recorder off. A wise Reporter knows when not to press someone.
