Seifer Almasy is something of the bad guy in FF VIII, and he plays the part well. With his mean smile and arrogant attitude, he makes a great nemesis for Squall. What is interesting though, is that the creators of the game never really depicted him as "evil". Plus, the game sort of hints at the fact that something may have happened to Seifer when he was young (besides being an orphan) that may have contributed to why he is so psychotic at times. Anyway, despite their conflicts, Seifer and Squall seem to respect one another. Another weird thing is that throughout the game, its evident that Seifer regards himself as "good" - and in his eyes he is the hero of the story. In the d-district prison he even says something to squall about "the tale of the sorceress knight versus the evil mercenary". From seifer's point of view, it would make total sense. right and wrong seem to be more a matter of perspective then anything else, making seifer a kind of tragic hero in his own way.
