Seventeen
year old arrested in Virginia for numerous
computer crimes
By Rall Miksen
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Joshua Crump(news - web sites) was arrested today in Springfield, Virginia after an FBI raid on his home.
After four and a half years of monitoring Joshua's computer crimes as they occurred, the FBI finally got the "go-ahead" to put him out of commission. The raid was planned by FBI agents and with help of local law enforcement and cooperation of Joshua, everything went as planned.
The exact detail of the crimes committed will not be revealed to the media, but it has been said that Joshua will not be returning to the outside of a jail cell for a very long time. During one session with investigators Joshua asked, "Do we get high speed internet access in jail?"
Federal officials did not find any of Joshua's remarks humorous and spoke briefly with reporters on the vile crimes that are being committed over computers. He stated that while most of these crimes go seemingly undetected, most are merely ignored at the time and collected until a decision is made on a course of action.
``The online community is plagued by scum like Mr. Crump and now that he is behind bars we are happy to say that cleanup will be a little easier,'' one official said.
Joshua's hearing in court is set for March 1, 2001. His sentence is said to be no less than twenty years in a minimum security prison.
