Vampire Hunter D Dhampire "Dr. Fering told me that there are two kinds of people who don't talk much. One kind likes to keep quiet and think about nothing good; the other kind of person knows not to say much because he is always thinking and his actions will be based on his thoughts and experiences." |
D is a Dhampire, the offspring of a human and a Vampire. D is the son of Count Dracula, the ancestor of all vampires. D is the greatest of the vampire hunters, due mainly to his intimate knowledge of them and his supernatural abilities. He is driven to correct the wrongs of society because he places the responsibility for them on himself and his heritage. I also personally believe from watching the movie that Count Dracula had wished for things to be different between humans and vampires than they had become and that D is trying to fulfill his father's wishes. D distances himself from vampires and humans because of his mixed blood and has become a wandering hero looking for peace. D also has a being living in his hand who acts as D's reminder of who and what he is. D wears an all black ensemble composed of a wide brimmed hat, a long, flowing cape, a tunic, and leggings. D is armed with a long katana-like sword. Also, his hand and his vampire instincts kick in when he is in trouble as defense mechanisms.

Doris Lang Human "The girl has such a beautiful face; that's rare among these natives. And her blood melts in the mouth, or so my father told me. So, I came to see for myself, but, after all, she's still a stupid worthless human. She must pay for resisting her master." |
| Doris is the villager that Count Lee chooses to be his wife. Doris isn't fond of this idea and hires D to to help her out of this problem. Living alone, she has to support herself and her younger brother Dan. Their father was a werewolf hunter who was killed by Count Magnus when the town ordered him to attack the vampire lord. She also has to deal with the advances of Greco, the mayor's son. When she hires D, she sees something in D that maybe not even D has ever seen before and falls in love with him. Doris is the "damsel in distress" in this movie although she is one of the most capable characters in this movie. Doris is a reluctant loner in her own rights, though she finds love for D. In essence she doesn't need a man to take care of her, and to a point likes it that way.

Dan Lang Human "There will be more horrible things happening to you and your sister. If you wish to cry, it's your decision, but don't let your sister cry. If you think that she will cry because of your tears, then you must hold your tears in. You must smile and cheer her up, even if it's painful for you. You are a man. Do you understand?"
Dan is Doris's younger brother. He is a brave, strong boy who acts as Doris's support while she bears the burden of the Count's mark. He idolizes D and tries to learn all he can from D. Without a father, Dan seems to have taken D as an older brother and Dr. Fering as his father. Dan really plays a minor role in the movie, but is the bait Rei uses to try and ambush D.

Count Magnus Lee Vampire "His name is Count Lee. He's been ruling this area since before our people lived here. For years, people never saw him, but then, two years ago, we noticed lights in his castle. We knew that the Count was back! Some people say the Count is 5000 years old; others say 10,000. Anyway, he must be ancient." |
Count Magnus Lee is one of the last noblemen left in the Dracula family lineage. He is a Vampire who periodically marries a human woman to help pass the years. He has lived for 10 millenia and is one of the most powerful vampires alive. He has one daughter Ramika, whom he had with one of his previous human brides. His powers are immense, and he has ruled the area for countless years. The main plot of the movie is that he chooses Doris as his bride and D must stop him. In the end, he is destroyed by the great vampire hunter D.

Rei Ginsei Mutant "You idiot! You're lucky to be alive after the mistakes you made! Eternal youth ... you'd better wait another fifty years!" |
Rei is a mutant with the ability to warp space around him. He works for Magnus in the hopes that Magnus will grant him immortality and allow him into the "family." Rei battles D any times and although he comes close and even kills D once, he just can't defeat him. Due to this, the Count refuses to grant Rei immortality and after a short lived battle between the two, Rei ends up dead.

Ramika Dhampire "I'm not a commoner, I'm a noble one. All I know is the ``law of the jungle'', not love or feeling. We are superior - the vampires rule the humans!'' |
Ramika is the dhampire daughter of Count Magnus and a human commoner (until the end of he movie, Ramika is oblivious of her heritage and believes she is a full noble vampire). She is very proud and acts against her father's will many times because she believes including Doris in the family will dilute the family lines (as said before, she doesn't realized the lines have been diluted many times before). As the movie goes on, she becomes more and more of a protagonist, but never quite becomes a "good guy." After finding out her heritage, she becomes disillusioned and believes still that she is a full blooded vampire and that D is Dracula coming to end their line. It is supposed that she dies as the Count's castle collapse with her inside.

Dr. Fering Human
"Until yesterday, she was like a daughter to me but now, she looks so luscious. Why did I never touch her? The Count has excellent taste. I begged the Count to give me a few drops of her blood ..." |
Dr. Fering is the local physician and a good friend of Doris and her brother. Thanks to him, the town decides not to imprison Doris and allows D to take a shot at Magnus. Later in the movie, Dr. Fering is turned into a vampire and attempts to take Doris to the Count. To his dismay, Ramika slays him as he tries.

D's Hand Symbiot "Do you lust for the warmth of a human being? It isn't possible for a creature like you to ..." |
The symbiot is a creature that has been in D's hand since birth. He is a sarcastic creature that seems to live off taunting D and reminding him if his past. He does have a warped sense of humor and adds a comical addition to D's seriousness. The hands has some abilities and can revive D is certain cases (this happens in the movie). The hand seems to represent D's heritage, a thing that will keep him from normal life and never allow him to be accepted, but a boon in D's line of work.
