Didn't find a character you liked? Or have you already scarfed up a character but think you need more? Either way, you're in the right place. This is the list of character types for the ::deep echoing voice::Player Created Character...character...character...arachter...ter..ter..Ok, I'll behave. Sometimes I just can't help myself. They say here at the institution that I'll be free to go soon...But I digress.
Just about any kind of character you can think of will be acceptable in this game. Notice that pesky little "just about"? There aren't too many that I won't allow, but here's that list, so far: No lycanthropes. That's it for now. Not that I have anything against them, but it's been my experience that very few people can play a lycanthrope without going over the top. I'm talking bullet to the cut off head and they heal it. Nuh uh. Not here.
Ok, so you can't play a wereanything. What CAN you play? Any of the following:
Humans: Sounds basic, no? Well, no. Because this category encompasses ALL humans and their variants. Such as psychic abilities, sorcery, and anything in between. Human is by far the most flexible of all the character types since there are no limitations on what a human can do. If you start out as human, you will STAY human, for the most part. In the following list, I'll make note of any that a human character can become. There are only two.
The Fey: This is where things get a bit hinky. Because it's not quite clear to me what species are just fey and which are their own. So if you see something that's not right or if you disagree, please feel free to email me. I'm not going to go psycho and call you names. I LIKE feedback, positive or negative. Remember that this is YOUR game, I'm just here to make sure it goes well. That said...The Fey: The Fey and all the subclasses of fey are best described as "ethereal creatures of the senses." Sounds corny, I know. Think fairy, but bigger. Without wings. Not Tinkerbell type, though I'm going to go with the Tinkerbell type to describe one of the classes of Fey later...my but I do ramble on, don't I? No WONDER you people are so confused! Anyway, I'll let Laurell herself describe the fey for you. No, she's not here typing, but she does say, in Kiss of Shadows, the following: "How do you explain what it is to be fey to someone who is not? The answer, of course, is that you don't. You can try, but you rarely succeed." So there you go..it's indefinable. You either get it or you don't and if you don't, don't play a fey. Now then, on to the things you can play.
The Sidhe: Ok, I won't know how you pronounce this but for my own peace of mind I have to say that this is NOT pronounced "Sid-he" or "siddy". It's Shee. I feel much better. That said, I'm not too sure on the position of the sidhe in the fey structure. So, I'm going to say that the sidhe are the royalty of the fey. You can click here, The Court for a better view of what we'll be doing with the sidhe.
The Sluagh: Ok, from what I can gather from the book, once again, correct me if I'm wrong, Sluagh is just another term for some of the fey. I think. I'm not sure how many classes are included here, though. Note that this is not a species and really shouldn't even be in this list but I don't know where else to put it. Also the "politically correct" term for the Sluagh is The Host.
The Trow:Ok, near as I can figure, think "elf". Yeah, I know it's not much to go on, but the book didn't GIVE much to go on. I had originally intended to just go with the old Celtic mythology for a lot of these characters that weren't really explained too well, but that wasn't going to well. In mythology a Jack-in-irons wasn't something anyone would want to play and in the book Uther is a noble sort of guy, so...we're going to just go with whatever I can get from the book. Once again, and I can't say this enough, which is why I keep saying it, TELL me if you think I'm wrong. I won't kill you
The Roane:Ah, this one had tons and tons of stuff on the web. As long as you don't look up "roane". If you want to know more than the very brief line I'm going to give you here, look up "skellie". Now then, a roane is a fey that has a sealskin. When wearing the seal skin, he's a seal. Or she is, whatever. Anyway, they're NOT lycanthropes, they're not shapeshifters in the normal sense. The skin is part of them, even when they're not wearing them. (Yeah, I know my descriptions ramble, but so do I
Jack-in-Irons:Aha...in mythology a Jack-in-Irons was a huge giant that huanted the road. Which is REALLY useless, if you ask me. I much prefer Laurell's Jack-in-Irons. And that would be (I have no idea WHAT they do, but here's what they look like...if you want to be one, you decide what they do) 13 feet tall, pig headed (no, not stubborn, an actual pig head) with tusks. Though Uther seems quite noble and stoic, I'm sure there are emotional wrecks and nasty ones, too.
The Ogre:The Ogre wasn't gone into at all, so I'm just yanking up the old Dungeons and Dragons description. That makes them fairly tall, between 5'8" and 6 foot(ok, so it's not THAT tall but compared to the demi-fey it's huge) and massively ugly. Smashed in face, scaly skin, beady eyes. I'm guessing we'll just have tons of these guys. (yeah, sarcasm at its finest)
Brownies:Everything I've ever heard had brownies as nice little fairy type things. BUT, we're going with the Laurell Brownie, which is, far as I can tell, a multi-limbed creature with extra, uh, pieces, here and there. Four legs, four arms, four breasts, like that. I think they're pretty ugly, too. That, though, is also up to you, the player.
Goblins: Goblins..not little green guys with beady little eyes. Goblins are sort of the warrior race of this world. To parapharse Laurell...the sidhe start the wars, but the goblins fight them. Goblins are human height and have yellowish, warty, lumpy skin. Cute, eh? They have a king, a queen, whatever else the people playing the king and queen decide =)
Trolls:Ah, trolls...the little guys that live under bridges and eat goats..no=) Trolls are little guys that live under..I'm kidding. Trolls ARE little guys, I think of them as little weasles..sneaky and conniving. First person doing a troll can write a description to go here..see, I meant it when I said it's YOUR game=)
Night Hags:I, personally, love these little ladies. Ever see that movie the Beastmaster? Doesn't matter...but if you did, those hot looking babes with the Freddy Kruger faces were night hags. For those who haven't, night hags have these gorgeous bodies...right up to their faces, which are so nasty they'll stop time.
Demi-fey:Ah...think Tinkerbell. Or butterflies with human bodies...they're small enough to land on a forearm and they apparently like blood because they drank Merry's and practically ate Galen=)
Ghosts: Yeah...that'd be dead people=) This is one of the things that people who start out human can become. Didn't see anything here you liked? Had your own ideas on what would be a fun thing to play but it's not here? Not a problem...fill out the character sheet anyway, with what you liked, and we'll haggle. =)
