Honestly this has been the most difficult contest to judge yet. Because the items are going in my areas, I judged this one myself. I am saving all the descriptions that were sent in and when the area is finished, what I may do is make an art museum in Frostacres where I will display all of the work. That does not mean that you will received an alteration if your work is displayed there and you are not on the current winner's list. If you chose not to have your work displayed, you can write to me and let me know. I am, however, finding out if I can use your names at the bottom of each piece of art.
For now! Here are September's Winners!
Nevrek Araknathalin a life-sized/golden kobold/statue Look: At first glance it would appear that the kobold depicted is raising his small javelin in an awkward pose of triumph, but further inspection reveals the blunt end of the tiny weapon is pointed upward. The opposite, sharper end of the javelin pokes at the detailed engravings of his ribs, perhaps to get that pesky itch. The meticulous shaping of his face expresses a sense of achievement, though it might simply be sighing in relief.
Krellin Silverfordge an enormous /arched stained /glass window: The enormous stained glass window stands as tall as ten men and arches to a point at its pentacle. Thousands of colored shards of glass have been carefully pieced together to create the image of a lush green landscape inhabited by exuberant, brightly colored wildlife.
Selgon Brassgirdle An intriguing/painting Dark tones and somber colors are splashed upon the canvas in what seems at first glance to be no discerning pattern. A second look, however, reveals the picture to actually be that of Darkstone Bay under heavy fog and rain. The outline of a small schooner, its bow being nearly overtaken by a wave of white-capped water, is barely visible in the center of the painting. Unfortunately, the author either forgot to sign his work or was unwitting enough to use the same dreary colors as the rest of the composition, as no name can be found.
Lissanne CygneNoir a delicate porcelain nautilus shell Suspended by spidersilk threads in a frame of bronze, the sleek, sinuous coils of the porcelain nautilus shell glow pearly white. A blush of faint coral tints the curved interior. Incised along the bottom of the frame are the words "From the depths, find serenity."
Truekillr A pristine tanik framed watercolor This immaculate watercolor depicts two elven maidens entering a large wooden gate. Each of the maidens is artfully rendered to show their clothes blowing in the swirling zephyrs. Through the gate can be seen a bustling marketplace filled with the many races that walk the lands. The beautiful rolling hills of the grasslands protrude from the top of the short walls surrounding the town. The whorled tanik frame hugs the pristine watercolor adding an air of aristocracy to the image. Attached to the base of the frame is a golden eahnor plaque which reads, "~A Jastatos Bazaar~".
Seredetia A deeply shaded painting Portrayed in the picture is a wizened sage kneeling on a hill overlooking a vast and unforgiving valley. His ice blue eyes are covered in the shadow of the hood of his cloak. His aged hands protrude from his cuffs skyward, raised in prayer, toward a shimmering star in the sky.
Jolivette Cleoness an unsettling lifesize portrait The chilling image before you is immediately recognizeable as the Goddess Eorgina, her towering figure standing amongst dancing strokes of reds, oranges, yellows and blues that form flickering flames. Staring out from the shadows that form her face are two glowing eyes that seem to follow your gaze from any angle . Shimmering gold tones of the lavish jewelry she bestows sharply contrast the painting's dark and shadowy appearance.
Tayela Dyon a gold-leafed framed composition The joyous image of tavern patrons is set in the richest hues upon this canvas. Centered in the crowd is a handsome bard upon the table top, singing for his supper and for the applause of the crowd.
Oceaniania Sereenia a black velvet canvas Depicted on the canvas with life-like accuracy are several snarling waerns standing on their hind legs waving silver and crumpled notes as they intently watch the dragon bones fall on a green felt table.
Gilentii Nesratier A dimly-lit invar framed portrait Though years of soot and dust have collected on the canvas, effectively killing whatever brilliance the pigments may once have held, the image is still clear. A Dwarven family huddles in the corner of a cave, surrounding a mother figure whose pose indicates her telling a story. The children cringe in fear, with the mouths on their grimy faces agape. The father leans in a nearby corner smiling to himself.
Thikket TilliTilChee a worn ancient cave painting. Drawn with what appears to be old, dried red berries and dyes, the cave painting resembles a chart used by teachers in modern times. The painting depicts various creatures labeled with strange names. The only three not faded out of visibility are quite easily recognized. The first is a crude drawing of a rolton, with the name "Torkaan" written under it. A little below it is a painting of a velnalin, labeled "Karnelin." The final scratched drawing is a picture of a thrak, but labeled "Threk." Unfortunately the rest of this piece of invaluable history has been blurred and destroyed by time.
Pipit Bravetart a life-size onyx tiger statue At first glance, this stunning statue gives the impression of being alive. Poised in a stalking stance, ears back, head lowered, its piercing eyes of inset green star sapphires appear to follow you about the room. Whiskers of pure white ora seem to twitch in time to the silent footfalls of the patrons within the halls. Rippling muscles frozen in gold flecked onyx blend in a harmony of grace and power. Stripes of hammered gold leaf glint softly in the subdued light. Sharpened glaes claws send an icy chill down your spine as you ponder the pain they could render. Just as you turn your admiring gaze away from the tiger, you could swear it moved!
Kelsea Merintrigue a wistful-eyed mermaid carving Painted in vibrant colors, a mermaid carved from curving driftwood reclines languidly on a craggy rock amidst white tipped glaes ocean waves. Her hand trails in the water near a playful dolphin, but her searching eyes gaze outward at some unseen horizon.
Isaza Vesperstele a mithril-framed serigraphy Skillfully painted on the the silken canvas is a depiction of Wehnimer's Landing harbor under a rainy sky. Huddled on the docks are a group of young Lords and Ladies eager to embark aboard the majestuous Glaesen Star.
Kiera Esphier A lustrous celestial-blue tapestry Wispy tassels of woven black spidersilk adorn the sides of this richly textured wall hanging, their inky strands gradually bleeding inward along the portrait edge of a regal-looking mountain lion. Raised on its haunches, the creature's massive paws are carefully detailed in fiery golden thread as it reaches for the silver flecked night sky above it.
Wysteria Wyndsor A Carved Driftwood Kraken Perched atop a blue marble pedestal, a fierce sea kraken has been meticulously carved from blackened driftwood. Its sculpted form twists out of the tossing waves, fixing its obsidian eyes upon some unknown prey.
Jalesia Gahleen a small needlepoint hanging The pure white cloth of this simple hanging is partially marred by a pudgy handprint in the bottom corner. Various sized tarts embellish the border while splayed across the center, large letters have been unevenly stitched to read: The Four Winds Hall. Small golden tassels enhance the bottom edge of the wall hanging.
Ciedre Everlass A petite pastel painting Splashes of gold and blue tinge the outer edges of this demure little canvas rippling inward over hues of pink and violet to create a small oval. Profiled on a flower-laden green branch in the center of the circle is a winking green-eyed woman, one hand poised to sweep away a lock of her fiery-red hair, the other brushing a touch of curious pink-silver dust from her blue-veined translucent wings.
Strathe duBane a lightly feathered oil canvas In a mist shrouded glen, the slender flowing figure of an ageless sylvan woman gently bends toward a shy fawn. Stray wisps of feathered mist waft out from behind some violet-dotted bushes half concealing a waterfall. The mist flows out to the edges of the canvas, parting only around the scene but also revealing her halfling companion perched on a stump gleefully watching.
