In pages 90-120 the boy crosses the desert with an englishman, a camel driver in a caravan. Day and night the caravan travels and as the journey gets longer the boy learns of the land and wars amoung the people. The camel driver educates the boy through stories and great memories. The englishmen also tries educating the boy through his books (an emerald w/ old writings) but the boy learns nothing. As dissappointed ss the englishman is he doesn't more than the boy does. Traveling day and night all three of them reached the Oasis. Being there the men needed some help finding things and so they asked the boy to ask a random person. The first person he saw he fell in love immediately. As time flew a hawk gave a warning of war.

In the next thirty pages the boy stays in the continent of Africa for about a year. He works with a crystal merchant that offered him a job earlier in the story. Throughout this year the boy helps increase the sales of the crystal and invents the idea of selling crystal cups with tea. This helps him gain enough money to leave, get his sheep back, and more. This also helps the merchant to make his dream of traveling to the holy city of Mecca. After this year is up the boy moves on to find his way to the treasure. On the way the boy encounters an englishman who sees the stones ummium and thurimm (stones of the omens) that the boy recieved from the king. This man shows his stones and talks of a king and his personal "treasure" he is after also. The boy figures out that he can always be a shepard or a crystal merchant so he makes his way across the desert in a caravan. This caravan has a musty, old leader who the boy doesn't take well to. The desert is a crazy, scary place. But, in order to achieve this treasure the boy must cross this desert.

The second thirty pages...After the boy discovers more information about this treasure he meets the king in his kingdom. There the king puts him on a quest. This quest is to look around at this mini-world and to keep the oil in his spoon while doing it. After a couple of hours the boys learns a new lesson: be observant of the beauty around us but remember to never forget the oil in your spoon. Next the boy leaves the kingdom and goes to an area about 2 hours away from Spain. There he meets a young gentleman his age. This gentleman becomes his guide to the pyramids. After searching this city of thieves it turns out that the one person he could trust (the young gentleman) betrayed him...the boy is far from home, has no sheep, no money and the last thing he wants is what brought him to this state, the treasure. He has nothing but his two stones that told him of omens. That night he met crystal merchant who he had worked for for about a month.

Paulo Coelho is the author of The Alchemist...a story about a young boy finding his destiny through the impossible itself. Throughout the first thirty pages I've read about life lessons and the boys childhood. Being a sheperd at a young age and traveling the lands would seem interesting. But for the young man he feels that this is typical and wants more to his life.
As the boy travels to see the love of his life he encounters a mysterious king and a gypsy who tell him of a treasure that seeks him. Along the way to cities more signs approach the boy of this treasure. He seeks the treasure in his mind so far. The boy is stuck in his own "rut-hole" of sheperd stero-typical notions. That's the first thirty pages...
