Joan Jett

Joan Jett is an American rock n roll guitarist, singer and actress who is most famous for the song; I Love Rock N Roll. She is the wildest of the lot, displaying true punk-rock, in every area, at it's finest.

Joan Marie Larkin was born on 22nd september 1958 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA . In her teens Joan moved to Hollywood where she joined all girl group, The Runaways alongside drummer Sandy West, guitarist Lita Ford, vocalist Cherie Currie and bassist Jackie Fox. The Runaways were no ordinary girl-group, they had a strong passion for rock n roll. The Band was the first REAL female rock band to play their own instruments, pretty good for saying they were only 16. Joan was then moved to lead singer and arguements arose. By 1979 the Runaways were no more.

Following the break-up of the band Joan produced an album for Los Angeles punk band The Germs and then went on to a solo career. Although she approached many labels none of them would sign her due to the 'bad reputation' (heeheehee...that's not funny, yes it is.) she gained from the Runaways. So, Joan created her own label, Blackheart Records to release recordings by her new band, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

Joan had reasonable success with this band, several singles reached the top 10 including the number 1 cover of I Love Rock N Roll and another cover of Crimson and Clover. Bad Reputation, (see what i did in the previous paragraph?)a song about rejection, was also a hit.

Joan also did all this acting stuff throughout the 80s such as 'Light Of Day' (1981) and 'Du-beat-E-O' (1984) but i am not going to go into detail.

Near the end of the 1990s she worked with members of The Gits, whose lead singer and lyricist, Mia Zapata had been murdered. The results of their collaboration together was a live LP, Evil Stig, whose earnings were used in an effort to find Mia's murderer and bring him to justice. To this end, the band and Jett appeared on the television show America's Most Wanted, appealing to the public for information. The case was finally solved in 2004, when Zapata's murderer was finally brought to trial and convicted.
