We (Joy) hosted an Oscar night gathering. I mingled mostly although I did catch a few awards and subsequent thank-fests. I thought this was a pretty sparce year in the old movie industry. Little Miss Sunshine was a fun movie but nominated for best picture? And The Departed was a fine flick but not even top 5 of Scorcese's work. There are numerous other movies that, had they not been nominated in strong years, were much more deserving of the statuette accolades: The Shawshank Redemption, Mystic River, Traffic, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Saving Private Ryan, Goodfellas, L.A. Confidential... just to name a few recent misses. Anyway, the party was fun and we got to see some folks we don't see too often these days.
