Hey I got really bored one day so I decided to build a spud gun. Then about 2 months later I got bored again and I decided to build an air cannon. Soon as I find some poor photo developer to develop the pictures you all can see both of them. They aren't too much to look at but they are fun to shoot at stuff. Lol too bad police don't like them. Send me an e-mail @ vernreno@juno.com if you have a spudgun that you want to submit.
Spud Gun Instructions( this is how I built mine. if you blow yourself up it isn't my fault.)
You will need these parts to make a nice potato gun ( some stores might not carry the parts... but getting from one diameter of pipe to another is the important part.
3-feet of 1 1/2 inch ABS Pipe
2-feet of 4 inch ABS Pipe
1-4 inch to 1 1/2 inch bell reducer
1-4 inch threaded sewer cleanout cap
1-barbeque igniter or lantern flint
3-galvanized screws
Ok I think it is a bit obvious what happens with all of this. the 4 inch piping gets the cleanout cap on one end and the bell reducer on the other. then the 1 1/2 inch pipe goes into the end of the bell reducer. remember to let all the glue dry 24 hours. then I have found that placing the igniter in the cap makes things a little more reliable. drill the two screws in at angles so that inside the cap they almost touch. then wire up the barbeque igniter( I don't know how to do it with the flint system). Then above where the bell reducer is screw the last screw into the 1 1/2 barrel as an ammo stop. this way you don't have to worry about sticking things in too far. I have found that Pantene pro v hairspray works very well( alcohol is the #1 ingredient). spray about 2 seconds of hairspray after loading in and put on the cap... now aim and hit the button. you should hear a loud thud and your spud should be flying.
Think a spud gun is cool? Build an air cannon
