My Favorite Bird

The Eagle is my favorite bird because I am a traditional person and I have learned that the eagle is the messenger for our people. The Native people pray to the Great Spirit and the eagle comes flying, spiritually, then takes the prayers to the Great Spirit and sends the anwers back to the person. Whenever a person sees a eagle flying in a 8, means it is telling us that what goes around comes around, example if you do good for a person, then someone will do good for you,and it is a warning to our people that something bad is going to happen. The eagle is known as a sacred bird and it is close to the creator (god), it flys very high in the sky because it watches over us.

Meaning of an Eagle

Whenever a eagle is killed by an native person, one has to ask for permission to the Great Spirit , offer tobacco before killing an eagle and pray or tell what is the purpose for the eagle. The feathers or wing of an eagle is used for teachings and sacred ceremonies such as sweat lodges, powwow dancing and healing ceremonies.
