WELCOME!
YOU HAVE FOUND MY "SOUTH AUSTRALIANA" WEBSITE.
THIS WEBSITE CONTAINS AN INTERESTING COLLECTION OF  SOUTH AUSTRALIAN HISTORICAL FACTS. CLICK ON ONE OF THE MANY LINKS BELOW AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW.

I am a South Australian. One of my many interests is researching  information on the History of my own State, South Australia. I am particularly interested in local history, history of food and drink, especially olive oil, and my local area's brewing history. Researching for me can be searching databases, collecting or buying old bottles, reading, or searching the Internet.

This research includes  visiting libraries, collecting old bottles from the 18th & 19th and 20th centuries, and searching Internet Forums, as well as being a member of a local Historical Society.

South Australia has a wealth of interesting historical features, including many towns and cities, river and sea ports, as well as many "ghost towns" scattered around. Some towns are really worth visiting, such as Victor Harbor, Mannum,, Mt.Gambier, and Quorn.

South Australia has a number of different bottles and jars. Many of the makers are well known by name, and a lot of information is known about them. At other times, information is often a single article in a book, some have even less information written about them, for example, some olive oil retailers. Some of our bottles are well worth including as "unique to South Australia"

As my own local area is the city of Mitcham, in South Australia, my research is often based here and most of my research has been centred around food and drink manufacturers, and buildings but there are other areas well worth researching.

It is the intention of this website, the separate pages of which are all linked to this main page, to look at and describe some of our history. In this presentation of the interesting historical information pages on old style packaging and local history, will be discussed in some detail.

Links to historical sites in Mitcham are included, as well as a new section dedicated to the sale of bottles has been included.

Are you interested in activities that offer a lot of interest, amateur archaeological pursuits, opportunities for research, chances to be a historian in your own right, and to preserve and collect historical artifacts that have a fascination all their own? If your answer is yes to these questions, then the collecting of antique bottles is for you. More information can be found by clicking on the link below.

If your interest is in activities on a local theme, from the history of the first settlers in an area, through bakehouses, brewers or blacksmiths, or any form of transport (e. g. Horse Trams), or services (e. g. 19th Century Doctors), or simply just local history, then you could consider joining an Historical Society. One such local Historical Society, is the Mitcham Historical Society. Often, Antique Bottle Collectors find information from local Historical Societies.

For more information, click on their link below. See also the above S. A. History Link.
