Greatest BandsThese are not only my favorite bands, but some of the greatest ever. As I continue to work on the site more bands and artists will be added, but these are my favorite three.

The Beatles
They are the standard by which all rock bands measure themselves; either musically or in terms of their success and influence. They made long hair possible for males; affected fashion; the first band to be considered a political force; first to pay attention to "world music" and the philosophies that come with it; first to start their own recording company to help less known artists ignored by big labels; first to play stadiums; first to have newspaper headlines written about them; first to be boycotted. They recorded over 15 albums, made 5 movies, inspired 2 tv shows, and about 30 years after their break up, they had the #1 album, book, and tv special. Oh... and their music is amazing, too. Neat, huh? |
The Who
One of the most creative and revolutionary bands ever. They were the first to use synthetizers and sequencers in rock and roll. While most "musicians" now use the technology to save time, money and substitute for a big lack of creativity, The Who created new, never before heard sounds to enhance what were already incredibly good songs to begin with. They invented the "rock opera" and made what are still the 2 best - both of them became movies, and 1 of them even went to Broadway. Their energy on stage should strike fear into any band. The remaining 2 members are out there again, on tour. Go see them (I did, before John Entwistle died), and you'll find out for yourself that this is not exageration. It is Fact. |
Kiss
In the beginning they were warned that Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, and Alice Cooper had taken rock and roll theatrics as far as they could go. They were told they wouldn't get anywhere with their make up and costumes. They did make it... BIG! Once on top, they were told they could not survive without their make up and costumes. They did... BIG! They sold a lot more albums and tickets without make up. They announced the original line up was getting back together and going back to the original concept, and people thought they would sink. They didn't. They came back... BIG! Since then, they have broken attendance records all over the world. They are bigger than life and FUN, and that's what Rock and Roll is all about. |
