Bands, Albums, Songs..... etcWhat makes a good band? Or a good song? How about a good album? Well the answers to these questions all lie in the matter of your very own opinions. There is no right or wrong answer although some peoples opinions may sound more convincing than others.

There is many people out there that hate music for the skill level involved in songs. I am that way to an extent. Originality in sound is important to me in listening to music. " No matter how good of a guitarist you are, you are only as good as the songs you play" - Smile Empty Soul. This quote is a great way of putting that no matter how much skill and talents is involved with your music, if it sounds like shit, it is shit. An example to me would be...... take the extreme metal band called "Nile". They write really extremely skilled music. But there is a problem there. You cant understand a word they say because the scream is so deep and dragged out, you can barley hear the change in chords on the guitar because the drums are so loud. Now would you rather listen to that? Or would you rather listen to a good sounding band like Disturbed, or Cold where the guitar is melodic, original, the drum beats make you want to move constantly, the lyrics and vocals are so emotional they send shivers down your spine? Or would you want to listen to something where you can't even feel anything from the music because there is no change in vocal pitch and every song sounds the same because its all the same speed and same sound. Dont get me wrong there is many talents out there that have extremity and sound good. There is more so than not. The point i am trying to make is that some people dont listen to bands that are played on the radio simply because it is mainstream, and its popular. Its common sense to think if its popular, the songs are probably going to be good. So i think people need to get over themselves and look deeper into why music is written the way it is more than how the "skill" is in the guitar work and what not, which i think is fucking ridiculous if you judge music that way. |
